I've repaid £1 per week sometimes and at most about £15-18 a week on a debt of about 12 bags I think. It's never going to be repaid, basically

Blair's fault for sending far too many kids to University. Fecking ridiculous and a mess is waiting
By:
It is a disgrace that student loans are charged a higher rate of interest than is charged for late payment of income tax.
By:
1500k less to paid over a further 10 years, 40 in total. WTF? Minimum yearly salary before repayments falls to 23k also if implemented.
By:
Most youngsters today who go to University thses days are fooked by huge house prices and massive student debt unless their parents die young and they inherit their parents house, that they've made loads of money on
By:
Should be capped, even now, at about 60 large for 4 years - 4 x £9k max fees and 4 x £6k living expenses. Obviously less if you only take 3 years.

By:
Less for outside London and going to **** uni's too.

You are better off training as an electrician or plumber than spending £50k on a pointless degree on Sociology or Marketing from a poor University

Richie, do the QT thread.

There shouldn't be any tuition fees. Period.

I Don't watch Question Time mush, I don't like it - too much clapping and people talking over each other.

Aye, it's sh1te since they dropped the comedians.

I once appeared on the Welsh language version of it when I was in school.

Surely the state paying your fees for 3 years + living costs so you can study "gender studies and being offended" then work in a call centre / cafe, it's a human right?

Many countries don't let their universities charge tuition fees. They manage it somehow.
By:
or I should say a handful of European countries. There aren't many I think.
By:
It's easy not to charge tuition fees. Cut University places in half. But Blair had this dumb idea and following governments have failed to address the initial stupidity, just left the problem for another day
By:
I say it's easy but it's not easy, because tens of thousands of jobs now rely on students who shouldn't go to University paying to go. So the can gets kicked down the road
By:
Other countries are far better at having different levels and paths of education and put more credit in e.g. vocational courses in useful areas, Britain has decided everyone (well ok at least 50% was I think the target) should have a degree, no matter how useless and mickey mouse and no matter if industry needed anyone in that pointless subject, which is incredibly expensive.
I'm not sure it's fair a brick layer and a shop assistant should be paying taxes towards 1000s of people gettin degrees in "peace studies" and "postfeminist gender struggle pisstaking". |

Jo Swinson on QT with her santimonious dishonest "Farage is a racist" attacks reminds me why I won't be voting LD again any time soon. Horrible woman.
By:
Woops typo! I c a mistake.
By:
It's not fair on the students being encouraged to do the course and ending up with no better job prospects and a huge debt.
By:
It is outrageous that they are paying exhorbitant interest rates, I think everyone can agree on that. FS did they outsource the collection to Wonga?
It should be base interest rate + admin + costs and not gouging.. |
By:
It's stuff like that from Jo Swinson that makes it difficult for me to vote Lib Dem. Sh1te like that should come from The Green Party, not a mainstream party abd I really don't like Farage.
By:
Although having just typed that and thinking for 10 seconds .. I suppose they have to factor in a lot of people WON'T pay them off, so the people paying it off are covering those who don't (I'd assume). so once again it's probably the people who do useful degrees and end up getting good jobs covering the people who did total bullsh1t for 3 or 4 years...
By:
Swinson, who just had a go at Farage and his poster, is exactly the sort of bleeing heart "liberal" that would flat ignore all the statistics about the huge amount of people who came in the migrant crisis who weren't refugees but plain economic migrants, often lying about where they were from, and scream in your face that talking about it is "racist". Exactly why I could never vote for a party with her leading either. People like her don't do facts.
FFS We need a reasonable centrist party, not a SJW party, which is what the LDs have become. |
By:
Lib Dem's leading the polls, first time since Cleggmania.
By:
FWIW, Liberals are centrists.
By:
If you are capable and going to earn a uni degree then earn lots of money i dont see a problem with the system.
The problem is they let people in who are not good enough for university. |
By:
Poor phecker on 5live this morning has just graduated with 46k student debt !! Should never be allowed imo.

I want someone from a mainstream party to stand up and say it's racist for a Muslim parent to deny their daughter marrying a non Muslim. It's the most baltant form of racism there is but it's as if it never exists.
Tha laughable oxymoron is that if you were to point it out you would be labelled a racist yourself. |
By:
Islam ain't a race mush

By:
The libs IMHO used to be centrists, certainly aren't now.

JC I was going to post the exact same thing as you on Jo Swinson.
I at one time voted LD religiously before becoming a tactical voter. Vince Cables bigoted speech put me off them but if Swinson gets the leadership I'll never vote for them again. An odious virtue signalling individual who should be nowhere near politics. Willie Rennie head and shoulders above her in every respect. |
