Confirming he could not serve in a Cabinet under Mr Johnson, Mr Stewart told Sky News: "I believe I can get Brexit done... can beat Jeremy Corbyn... and most important of all I believe I can begin to reunify this country."

On Mr Johnson he said: "I sat down with Boris Johnson two weeks ago and he said to me he would not be pushing for a policy of 'no deal' Brexit. I left the room feeling that we had an understanding.

"I now understand, from what he said yesterday, he is going to try to crash us out of the European Union at the end of October... that is not being straight with people."

by 2016 the majority voted to leave........

They actually voted to remain in the European Community in June 1975, having joined on 1 January 1973.

The thing is he is actually telling the truth it's just not what people want to hear and of course won't win the leadership contest.

Boris and Raab are already promising impossible things that they know the membership want to hear, it might pick up a lot of support, but it's this sorta stuff why we're in this mess in the first place. It's also going to come back to bite them in a few months if they win and then can't deliver their promises.

They most definitely are. "We will leave on the 31st October with or without a deal" is the exact same trap May fell into. It's an undeliverable promise.

I am saying that it's sad that politics has become about just pandering to what people want to hear and ignoring the realities, given it's that exact type of politics that got us here in the first place. Stewart is obviously trying to appeal in principle I'd assume to the MPs who realise this, but of course it won't win a vote in the membership which is full of people totally out of touch with reality.

The nutcase is not in power now so going back to her Li's & ineptitude is pointless. No leader now can act the same way; & it doesn't matter who it is. A deal will be done or leave it is. There will, no doubt be an attempt to bring down the Government but it will fail as MPs care about saving their own skins

If you think you will get away leaving against parliaments will you are in cuckoo land. Even the no deal "dream" is a non-starter, you wouldn't actually be around to deliver it if you tried.

Is this Boris's first big mistake? There won't even be enough time to pass the 6 No Deal bills before Oct 31 now, let alone other preparations. Some serious Brexiteers are now saying extend A50 by another 12 months and then you'd be ready for a hard ball new negotiation.

The Brexiteer candidates (ie Boris and Dominic Raab) in particular should be very careful what they say during the campaign - temptation clearly to talk tough but probably odds on that their first action will have to be requesting another extension from the EU...

No doubt. But that's democracy for you. It's worth the money. And if the re-joiners are persuasive enough, we can have a third referendum in around the year 2056. Forty-year intervals is about right.

But, if they want referendums to have legitimacy, they need to shut their faces right now and allow the result of 2016's second referendum be enacted.

Agree with much of that, although the EU would most likely tell us to do one in 2056 (assuming it still exists).

they have a turnaround in November. Might be a great time to negotiate, after we've left of course
