Oh I see, The Management knows best. How dare the great unwashed have an opinion, they are nowhere near as clever and was well informed as The Management. Far better they are ruled by a European oligarchy answerable to no one except a group of unelected bankers. Voting is just a pantomime folks, we are not allowed to govern ourselves.

The thread title is the ERG Foinavon - I have given my view on the ERG.
If you disagree with me and think the ERG are motivated by altruism and have the best interests of the population of the UK at their heart - that is absolutely your perogative - but maybe you could ditch the sarcasm and explain why you think that? |

Unlucky for some Bojo's water cannon was sold for scrap i believe
by sadman kant |
|
By:
tbf, The Management i do think your idea of the flat cap & bowler hat brigade is a little antiquidated
|
|
By:
Maybe bap - but it Foinavon can't articulate a pro ERG logic then he may as well not comment.
He needn't worry though because the usual bus load of Millwall fans will be along shortly now that the mighty lions have finished the crucial match that might see them scrape retaining their rightful place in the old second division. It's just would have been interesting to hear from somebody sane - either a middle class tory fanboy or even a Labour voting working class lad - what they think they have in common with the privileged, tax avoiding, multi millionaire, Eton/Oxford educated, Nanny employing, anti establishment men of the people at the ERG. |

By:
The ERG are a number of politicians opposed to membership of the EU and want to see the result of the referendum implemented in full. They are doing the job for which they were elected, I leave the unprincipled art of speculation on motives to others.

well i class myself as reasonably sane (except around the nutcase) & i think they were needed in the Tory Party at the beginning; i have changed my mind now however & see their lack of action as a major fail & hugely embarrassing. Including my own

By:
I think he was referring to me Bap.
|

By:
well looking at your post above, i speak for you as well Mr Foinavon
|
|
By:
Thank you.

By:
I'm sure you're both sane - I was referring to the usual nutters that seem to be at the Millwall game.
Walter the Softy represents a constituency that voted almost 60% remain. He doesn't give a monkeys about democracy or do you think he was conflicted and wrestled with his conscience while he was last flying over to the Cayman Islands to sign some papers? He stands for the will of the people currently - but only if and when the will of the people suits his ideology. Make Britain Great Again - but keep all my assets off-shore? It doesn't stand up to scrutiny as a slogan does it. |

Not many MPs are following the referendum votes of their constituents. If they did there would be a clear majority for leave in Parliament. It was however, a National referendum, not a constituency vote.

as i previously said to northenlite; self-serving capitalists are on both sides of the divide. Agree that the ERG traded under a name that to my mind at least, doesn't exist anymore. So if it was disbanded, you would not see me crying; but as i said they served a purpose. Just a pity they lacked the willpower to see it through. JRMs most recent comments threatening the EU made me cringe tbh

I do understand it was a national referendum! - I was just pointing out that I don't think (unlike some others) that he would have needed to wrestle with his conscience on it - or on any other matter!
I guess it completely baffles me that such an obviously odious little man (in every way) can gain an almost cult like or celebrity like following from people that he would quite obviously (in private) completely despise. I find it ironic that anyone working for a living, paying bills, paying tax, etc could possibly listen to a word that he says. I see all the downsides of the EU but I'm not too far away from believing that the "European oligarchy answerable to no one except a group of unelected bankers" (to quote Foinavon) would probably do better by me, my family and my country than JRM and his cronies. |
|
By:
so any alternative to "self serving capitalists?"
it is the old story, there is a lot at stake apparently but for whom? not someone on minimum wage |
|
By:
has there ever been? You can go back to when Barons ruled the roost & the only difference to now is that serfs have mobile phones
|
|
By:
liberal has become a dirty leftie word but conservatives used to think they were far too Laissez-faire.
how strange things have become. i can't keep up ![]() |
|
By:
The Management; i suppose it may come down to whether you would rather be answerable to an elected bowler hat, or an unelected Infanterie-Tschako Ord
|
|
By:
That's a fair summary imo - up the revolution!
|
|
By:
the problem with "upping" the revolution is assuming you will be on the right side of it.

By:
I know I won't be on the right side of an election for a while - until something gives it looks to me like a straight choice between the poison or the bullet.
