"Issues regarding mental illness" . Does anybody think such random attacks are the act of a sane man ? Why state the obvious ? How many years training required to qualify as a criminal profiler ?

The use of 'mental illness' as an excuse often before arrest let alone prosecution is STAGGERING!!

It gives the criminal's lawyer a free pass. 'Your Honour, I agree with Plod, my client is unwell so send him to hospital not jail. Thanks awfully'.

Someone randomly stabbing 4 people in the back I would think mental illness is 1.01 rather than an 'excuse'

'Mental illness' is a diagnosis established by trained medical personnel.

How any of the Old Bill or media can even think to include this in a statement or report beggars belief. It compromises any court case that follows.

If that happened in Spain the Guardia Civil would have been there in a couple of minutes and filled him with more holes than a Swiss cheese.

Apparently these attacks took place over a 14 hour period , not 4 hours as previously reported .
At which point did the OB decide to get off their lazy backsides and show some sort of presence on the ground ?

I live in South East London Reynard, to my knowledge I have not seen a rozzer on the beat for at least 2 years if not longer.

Would you walk round our streets in a Police uniform armed only with a stick. Many areas are almost no go zones at night.

Police i'm sure refer to mental illness because the history exists not because they are whimsical.

Police said the victims were from "different backgrounds". That does not preclude them all having different ethnicities from the attacker, but does rather suggest this is not about race.

It was also not about robbery or sex or terrorism so the most likely explanation is mental illness. Another triumph for Care in the Community.

Even by Modern Lefty Progressive standards, this latest Edmonton atrocity is something else.

Why did the new Metropolitan Social Worker Police Service automatically rush to judgement that the suspect might have 'Mental Illness' issues, before a single arrest was made, or any suspect questioned? 

What a racket this 'Mental Illness' phenomenon has become. I've lived in 3 different parts of the UK, all for lengthy periods, and don't know ANYONE who goes around stabbing people, less still hide behind the 'Mental Illness" cloak.

Makes a good defence in court though. Thank Allah the judge in the Yorkshire Ripper case back in the 80s wasn't quite so wet behind the ears.

Mental illness as a legal defence has been around since Norman times, if not before. That's a thousand years. The modern tests go back to the 1840s when M'Naghten was acquitted of murdering a civil servant while trying to assassinate the Prime Minister. Broadmoor was opened in the 1860s. None of this is a recent phenomenon.

I don't think the police used to offer it as an excuse before even catching anyone though.

I'm completely aware of this, but NEVER in our island's history has 'mental illness' been advanced so repeatedly as an excuse BEFORE a suspect is even identified, let alone caught and interviewed.

It's more common for the initial speculation to be centred on the perpetrator's faith than his mental wellbeing.

The most likely solutions are:

a) Massively cut the number of police on the streets.
b) Massively cut the funding for mental health.
c) Privatise the probation service so that the people on the front line are minimum wage agency workers.
d) The perp has a foreign sounding name - so divert attention away from a), b), and c) by blaming everything on immigration.

We should all be able to walk the streets safely again in a couple of days/weeks/months/years/decades*.

Absolutely not, in the case of the Police. In fact faith is the last thing they want mentioned when violence occurs.

It used to be easier when the double-barrelled names were always good guys.

I don't read the police statements, I usually just pick up on the speculation when I open these threads.

A fifth stabbing reported fro Edmonton. The victim fighting for his life, but a description of the knife thug emerges. Very similar to the description of person wanted for the first four "random" (i.e. completely organised) stabbings.

It's uncanny how a "mentally ill" knife thug manages to get himself armed, navigates his way around London and has managed to stab individuals in full public view, yet hasn't been apprehended yet, despite his description being circulated widely. Allah alone knows what a sane thug could achieve in the world of violent crime should he desire to.

This latest one was in a street around the corner from Aberdeen Road. Have the police been present in the area 24/7 ? Seems not. Also if the man is still on the loose it might be sensible to get a taxi or have something on your person that would help you. And don't wear your headphones !

Apparently to reassure the local public . Visible uniformed officers I understand but what reassurance is there in having 'plain clothed' officers ?
Are people reassured by the thought that anyone not wearing a police uniform is possibly a police officer , therefore reassurance by placebo , or are there in reality no 'plain clothed' police officers at all ?

I'm satisfied that he probably aint the full normal.
