Yet the SJW boy who egged an Australian politician the other day is lauded as a hero and AFAIK totally let off, and the politican who was egged may be in trouble for reacting.

It's a strange and very inconsistent world, isn't it. Most confusing.

(And lets not mention e.g. that knife wielding nutter who was filmed attacking a car with a huge knife that was more like a small sword a while ago that wasn't even jailed initially.. Ok I just mentioned it :)).

There has probably never in the history of journalism, ever been so much negative and false press about anyone as there is about Corbyn.
The Labour press (such as it is) don't do him any favours, being in favour of Blair-like politics, the rest just anything to keep Tories in favour.

And those who want to see it (and so many on here do) will regurgitate all the rubbish and distorted stories ad nauseum.
Whereas any opposition to the stories makes you a communist of some sort.

It's quite possible the highest paid journalists and editors are worried they might have to pay more tax!
Report RacingCert • March 28, 2019 9:31 AM GMT
Fair enough, SF, but JC hardly does himself any favours refusing to sit down with tories and ex labs whilst consorting with others with blood on their hands.
Surely this is not MSM myth?
Any leader of opposition worth their salt would have trashed May over Brexit.
Report STUDYFORM • March 28, 2019 9:52 AM GMT
Any trashing of May would probably have got him labelled as a remainer, so maybe a bit of a no-win. Also, it's quite possible the press are more keen on trashing him than on finding out any actual political intent.
Report RacingCert • March 28, 2019 10:06 AM GMT
The trashing of May could have come from either perspective remain or leave.
And tbf he does tend to find himself in no win situations particularly when most of his own MPs don’t want him.
For that are we to assume that this majority of lab MP’s are not fair minded either?
One rather finds it easy to come to the conclusion that he is doing something wrong.
Report Just Checking • March 28, 2019 11:13 AM GMT
SF the objective centrist, the voice of reason, the man with not a trace of bias in his body (but forever from his pedastal in the clouds calls out others on the stupid people who can't see his righteous truth) once again defends the idefensible, and of course it's some left wing BS. Yes of COURSE the media are all to blame and Corbyn is a LOVELY chap despite all the evidence he's dense terrorist supporting hard left garbage. That'll be why his colleagues in the Labour party, who've known him for many years, hate the bastard, won't work with him, won't go on his shadow cabinet, tried hard to oust him, say he's unfit to be PM and as I recall some have even said they wouldn't want a corbyn/Labour government.

It's all the MEDIA BIAS isn't it.

To answer you RacingCert. Many of Labour's MPs are the old "New Labour" supporters, for want of a better word "Blairites". They are more akin to the Conservatives than to traditional Labour. They liked it when they were just 12 years more of what the previous 18 years had been and were on the gravy train. It is very easy to come to the conclusion that Corbyn is doing something wrong when it's all you're ever told about him.

For that matter what is traditional labour?
I only go as far back as Wilson.
To which lab leader would you most closely align him to ?
Not that that would indicate anything.
Without googling I prob wouldn’t get the order right.
But following Wilson ...  Callaghan, Foot, Kinnock, Smith, Blair, Brown
Must have missed one or two there.
Got to be Foot hasn’t it but was he trad lab?
From my very vague recollections of the time Callaghan would strike me as trad lab.
Maybe it would vary for the individual, I cannot really say.

Racing what i would say is the Labour party is a reformist party at best , they believe in the market economy and have signed up that agenda , but they will if possible reform the system to fund public services and defend the poor and disadvantaged , some socialists join the labour party as vehicle to oppose the Imperialist ruling class so  maybe you could include corbyn with that wing of the party who believe in a more radical reform of the Capitalist institutions
Report STUDYFORM • March 28, 2019 8:18 PM GMT
Slippy. If you think about it. It could have been a knife as easily as an egg (have you seen the footage?). An attack like this on ANYONE in the public eye has to be dealt with severely, otherwise it would be more commonplace and all manner of loons would try filming themselves for social media.

lfc, thanks for simplifying things.

RC - I've been on the phone, not ignoring you.
I would agree that perhaps Foot would be the closest to Corbyn. He was similarly pilloried by the press though - calling him a "tramp" and doing much as now, deflecting from actual sensible policy ideas.
I don't profess to have all the answers, nor do I claim to be particularly politically minded. I just can't stand unfairness. And I can't stand (from all I've seen, done and witnessed) Conservatives. For the last 20 years or so, Labour have been like the Tories imo. I truly think that the sort of reasons Labour was formed as a party and the sort of things I believe Corbyn wants and stands for (he is above all, a pacifist. As far I can tell), would be better for more of us than anything else that is being offered.
As a matter of interest, I have - by chance, a mate who used to work with Corbyn (not so long ago), and I believe what he told me in front of what Murdoch and other bad press barons want us to think.

I spent a career stuck between business leaders (usually short term opportunists) and trade unionists (some of them openly communists) - the only winning strategy was damage limitation, seek out and develop relationships with the (rare) pragmatists on either side.

Most difficult element to the job was staying sober. Would conduct formal meetings with management and try to stay awake through all the posturing and rhetoric, then formal meetings with union leaders (same posturing and rhetoric but opposite agenda). Then informal meeting (in pub) with pragmatic management, followed by informal meeting in pub with pragmatic union leaders, then joint informal meeting in pub. Pragmatists capable of agreeing a pragmatic compromise before each respectively going back to their cohort to claim the victory.

Glad I am not still in that line of work, partly because my liver could not cope but mainly because Pragmatism has completely gone out of fashion. Always felt sorry for the real people that we were generally discussing. With a few exceptions on each side they were stuck between two groups more interested in their self-serving ideologies, than doing the right/best thing for either their employees or their members.
