I think this was a disgraceful act of football violence and 14 weeks is the absolute minimum term of imprisonment to be served , but if he'd been caught in public with a kitchen knife he wouldn't have been given anything more than a fine .
This punishment is more to do with the publicity afforded it rather that the seriousness of the crime (and I am aware he could have caused serious injury) .
The judge said that his punishment should serve as a deterrent . Surely the same 'deterrent' should be in place for anyone caught carrying a knife .
The judicial system seems to have its priorities all wrong .

Former Wales international David Cotterill has claimed police armed with guns is the way to combat the threat caused by pitch invaders.

.....

'The guy who ran on the pitch has gone there to cause havoc, not watch the football.

We need more security. I am not condoning guns at games but if the police are going to be armed, I think that is the way forward.'

Oh so whilst they are there protecting the millionaire socceroos who's going to stop the knifings down London ?

Isn't it brilliant how quickly the media are to push out the solution to everything?

We just need JRs "oh my gawd he killed him" voice over attached to the "knock out" video

14 weeks is wrong.

14 lashes would be better.

14 weeks is a pathetic sentence, he could have quite easily have broken his jaw and the player is out for the rest of the season.
14 weeks means he will serve 3 and a half weeks and be out on license and tagged for a further 3 and a half weeks. That sentence, to me anyway, is completely inappropriate. I would have given him 18 months personally.
