did a lot of research on this pre Xmas..Nord comes out top on nearly all reviews if you go down that route and pricewise there were some great deals to get at the time

What do you want this for? If you're looking to be able to bet when you're abroad, some sites will not allow you to login using a vpn which defeats the object of subscribing to it.

that's probably why they all want payment up front

but if you are abroad and the vpn shows you as being here does that not circumvent the software..i.e...they'd have no reason to suspect you were other than in the UK?

every one i've looked at wants you to sign a contact of sorts; even before you know it works or not. Bonkers; or just plain thievery

Well, from my experience 365 recognised I was using a vpn & regardless where I was wouldn't allow me to log into my account through it. Like you say, bit naughty really as you could be in UK & just want privacy/security & they are denying you this. With the roaming allowance now sorted & if you place your bets by mobile I wouldn't of thought VPN's would be needed so much now & even if you take a laptop can't you piggyback off your own phone when abroad? Of course there is another option to VPN's, one where you pay monthly & are not tied into a contract as well, if you want to use a laptop/computer abroad.........

Use a remote desktop connection ie VPS (virtual private server). The advantage to this being, if you're using a bot you don't have to have your computer/laptop connected to the internet all the time - you can turn it off. That's originally why I subscribed to one.

Had to look back through a few emails to find the link but you may find this useful:

http://www.thebotdepot.com/vps-awesomeness/

I myself am going to bookmark the link in case I need to start using a bot again.

For betfair purposes only, Hide.me(paid, about 80 dollars a year) works from abroad(i.e. countries where betfair doens't allow bets). Cyberghost(free) used to work but for some reason messed things up. Not sure if they'd work now or not.

If you could tell me exactly what purpose you want to use the VPN for and if for betfair, how often you are placing bets etc I may be able to help.

thanks, detraveller but i think i'm sorted now. I did have a look at Cyberghost & there is a piece online about them discontinuing the free service, along with an explanation

If its a free VPN you want Barp, try the Opera browser, it has a built-in VPN - you can switch it on and off as you need.

Its not as good as the likes of Nord, tho.

really be careful with free vpns if they involve an app of some kind.  There was one a couple of years ago that was just swapping over user's bandwidth, so your IP address was being used by another user who could have been conducting illegal activities.

By the way, you aren't fooling anyone with a VPN. It is not that complicated to detect a user logging in with a VPN. Anyone that wants to know your real IP, will know it without trying all that hard.

The opera browser is now owned by the Chinese. So don't do you top secret government work through their VPN.
