This chat with JRM somes up just how clueless James O'Brien is about complex issues.

He is the rudest person on the radio by a long way. No respect for the other person.

His tactic of talking over people may work with civilians but the nonsense when he talks about having Australian beef in the UK is amazing. O'Brien seems to think allowing food in from other countries that have higher standard than ours means we lose soverienty. Why when we do not have to have those rules on our own production?

this after all is what its all about in their eyes making us more attractive cheaper to o deals with. what the ERG call red tape usual means regualations that keep us safe

O'Brien is a ridiculous, single-issue bore and a bully (as has been suggested)

He is literally unlistenable

He's insufferable, just unwathable, so up himself and condescending and biased it's unreal.

Can't believe he still has a show.?
Report Dr Crippen January 17, 2019 4:34 PM GMT
He invites people to call his show, then proceeds to stop them from making any points by insisting they fully explain any minor details he thinks might pull them up, which throws them right off track.
Subjecting politicians to this kind of treatment is one thing, but members of the public who are usually nervous to start with isn't on. Which makes him an absolute bully

He called one person who sent a text a cretin, after he'd read it out.

Why anyone would want to phone in to his show is a mystery.
But if you like to hear members of the public humiliated and made to look silly by a gobby left-winger on an ego trip it's the show for you.

There was a psychological study done that showed those on the left were more inclined not to be able to understand the point of view of those with more right wing viewpoints
While those on the right were more able to understand the viewpoint of leftists

So that could explain why O’Brien may very well have fared badly against Mogg

But people like pineapple and O’Brien himself would not be able to understand or see that
Report mouse muldoon January 17, 2019 9:11 PM GMT
I seen that poll that said right ave IQ 115, left ave IQ 90, which pretty much proves your point as well.
Report lfc1971 January 17, 2019 9:12 PM GMT
You see pineapple thinks that those on the right and those on the left would be equally unable to take on board a different viewpoint
But this may not be true and why should it be
Psychological studies have shown it not to be true
And those on the left are more blinkered as if the haven’t moved beyond early attitudes formed in early years

This is an interesting part of the Brexit debate.

As a 'Lever' I have been consistentely questioned about the minutiae of policy, post-Brexit, on areas as diverse as quarantine for racehorses and broodmares, air traffic control and aeronautical engineering standards, the funding of life-science research and food standards (subsection chicken imports).

Of course, proponents have way more knowledge than me in these areas and I am not denying there has been and is a vast swathe of legislation on which the likes of JOB can score points against the uninitiated.

I find it best to bow to their superior knowledge but try to make the point that it is down to civil servants to deal with the detail and they should have been preparing for this for two plus years. Furthermore, If Remainers are basing a batle for the nation's hearts and minds on technocratic points of detail on trade rather than addressing the key existential issues of sovereignty, executive accountability and what exactly constitutes 'a nation', then they have lost the argument before they start.

Report Hanx January 18, 2019 10:12 AM GMT
Without sovereignty (the ability to manage your own affairs and react as a nation to issues affecting you) and borders (the delimitation of a nation) you don't exist as a country, I'd say

Some great comments on LBC website on this:

https://www.lbc.co.uk/radio/presenters/james-obrien/james-obrien-destroys-jacob-rees-mogg-brexit-vote/

Cannot find one comment supporting the approach JOB took in the interview.

As others pointed out LBC had to change the title of the post to :

'James O'Brien's Unmissable Exchange With Jacob Rees-Mogg Over Brexit Vote'

When it became apparent the commentators disagreed with the title in the URL.

always refreshing to see what happens when the MSM occasionally make the mistake of opening up these stories to public comments. Cool

Every single time, the vast majority of comments are in favour of respecting the referendum result and LEAVING the EU.
every time

the MSM, just like the government and the MPs are so out of touch and at odds with the public, its scary.
Report Reynard January 19, 2019 9:22 AM GMT
Platini - The Government and MP's are at odds with the public . The MSM are controlled by the State in order to perpetuate State propaganda to the unquestioning masses . The number of people now questioning the MSM is growing but is still only form a small minority of the public as a whole . Meanwhile the increasing levels of corruption within the establishment becomes far more of a serious threat than the majority realise !
Report Pleasegivemeanailedontip January 19, 2019 10:50 AM GMT
^ that may be true and i may be wrong but i thought there was a simpler explanation than that.

MSM are biased towards the most clickable view of any story and the more division they can sow, the more clicks they get. Take a fundamentally boring 3 year project that has huge ramifications and clickableness and you see this sensationalism at its worst.

Whichever route brexit takes, the MSM will stoke the opposite opinion. WTO will be the chaotic cliff edge, a referendum will be the end of democracy, extending article 50 a catastrophic failure of leadership etc etc zzzz
