Delivery, there's a choice of plastic or paper bags. Anyway a more friendly environment will be appreciated by future generations.

Ireland has been charging 50 cent a bag i'm sure for years,as much as i think cynically in regards a goverment sneaky tax,i would be a 100% behind it environment wise

Waitrose and Ocado do even Sainsbury if stipulated prior online.

it is the misuse of the plastic that is the problem , that’s worse now than before , how come ?

If you bring your groceries home in a plastic bag you can use it to line your kitchen bin , that’s envirinmentalky  friendly

impossible123; paper bags are only used for veg and fruit, are they not?

not reusable , much more expensive to transport and produce and in essence more environmentally harmful than plastic bags ( as long as they are not thrown into the street )

the reusable plastic bag can be a cause of disease?

so let me get this straight; there are people on here who see no problem with charging the more unfortunate in this society £1 - or more for a plastic bag? Add this to a weekly-fortnightly=monthly shop? How would you feel if betting tax was returned at 10%?

Paper bags for veg and fruits, tins and other personal stuff eg toothpaste, jars, bottles, etc. I'm using more small soft degradeable bags (those for veg in supermarkets) for small trash before putting them into bin bags for collection. I certainly have cut down enormously on plastic bags since they were no longer free. We all need to do our bit, no matter how small.

If plastic bags are so bad, just ban them. This government is a one trick pony, anything bad, their answer is to tax it.

are there more plastic bags being produced than ever before ?
Yes , because we can’t get them at our supermarket for free we have to buy them from there or somewhere else
That’s all

I'd not trust the Talibans organising betting events let alone betting. Maybe Turkey, best to ask Erdogan.

I remember greengrocers only had small paper bags for their produce. Now, do not have a clue as I'd not been to one for years.

What's wrong with re-using a plastic bag?

Simply take one with you when you go shopping Confused

The plastic bags are one thing, you get say tomatoes or mushrooms and they come in a plastic punnet wrapped up in a plastic film, probabably a way more plastic than some bags per se.

trilby; how would that work if housebound? I've already asked are reusable bags a maybe a cause of disease?
By:

When: 27 Dec 18 21:58
All reusable bags have the increased danger of disease
By:

Plastic bags are better because of that as well
By:
Baphornet
When: 27 Dec 18 22:00
i wasn't being offensive, pa lapsy. I've already stated on here that the problem is far bigger than supermarket bags. So another tax on the poor is very unnecessary

Common sense would prevent a plastic bag becoming hazardous shirly, Bap?

I reuse (most) freezer bags by inverting them and allowing them to dry in my airing cupboard.

If housebound, simply tick the "without bags" option when ordering online.

I didn't think for a second you were Bap,it does have to stop though, this generations legacy to the next is what it will be judged on down the line and frankly "we" are making a balls of it.

May i just say (sorry) that a decent ratio of the Tory vote is the elderly; they may be sorry come the next election if what i'm hearing is true

That's unfortunate, but necessary at times though. Maybe not so with mushrooms fruits like mangoes perhaps because some shoppers have a habit of squeezing and causing bruising rendering them unsaleable.

we are indeed; but i i'll restate my point much to the annoyance of others on here, taxing the unfortunate is not the way to go
