You don't want to see pictures of foreigners on your country's currency.

It's British money so it should have pictures of British people on it.

Mary Seacole was a British Citizen. At the time she lived, Jamaica was part of the Empire.

Wellington was on a banknote, he was born in Ireland.
Seacole's father was a Scottish officer in the British Army. She is just as qualified as the Iron Duke.

There are tons of regular British people who could have their mugs plastered all over the new notes.

Dr.Barnes Wallis for one, the inveter of the bouncing bomb.
Wing Commander Guy Gibson VC for another, and even Gibson's pet dog who served his country too in his own way.
What was its name again?

Never mind, it'll will come to me later.

£50 note at Tesco self-service check-out requires a customer service advisor intervention for approval; machine can scan but cannot approve.

Don't get me STARTED on big value bank notes. This has happened to me more than once abroad.

I go to bank machine. I am charged per transaction so I ask for a fairly big amount (like 150-200 quid worth) to last me a few days.

Machine spits out say 4 HUGE (in local currency) value bank notes, that nobody will then want to break or accept, or if they do, VERY grudgingly.

Last time this happened nobody wanted to take them, I ended up paying hotel bill in cash instead of card to get rid of the ****ers.

Speaking of scientists and colour etc.  Try this out.

Go to Google Image Search.
Search for "white scientists"
Take a close look.   Not what you expected to see ?

Is there a bug in Google's system ?

Ok, let's test it.   Now go back to Google Image search
Search for "black scientists"
What do you see ?

Report back to me...

I don't think so Foinavon. I'd rather see Wellington on a note.

I wasn't making a recommendation Dr C, just confirming my belief that she is eligible.
I would like to see a scientist as planned, Paul Dirac, James Clerk Maxwell or Joseph Priestley for example.
