It could be I’m not saying it isn’t but does it ring true ? It doesn’t seem to be the whole story why would he have acted in that way it just seems strange

Why has this received a similar level of media coverage as the story about a man being chopped up on the orders of a sovereign state ? Nothing seems proportionate where media coverage is concerned .

I think we need to establish who is the victim here
1. The passenger squeezed into a window seat seeing his emergency exit blocked or his way to the toilet\exit blocked by a physically challenged individual travelling on ryanair ! 2. The passenger physically challenged given an aisle seat with another able bodied passenger squeezed inside of her also with a ryanair ticket 3. The other passengers who were delayed and had to listen on their ryanair bookings 4. The ryanair staff poorly trained under stress to get in and out of airports.
Or michael oleary ? ...all publicity is good though ennit ? .

You get on a bus disabled people get more room You get on a plane and they dont If there is an emergency people will panic They will clamber over anyone in their way To get out So for me ryanair have H&S problem ....and this incident is down to them

The bottom line is that we use budget airlines because they're cheap. If they have to cater for the disabled and obese, then they'll become more expensive. Or the disabled will have to pay more for special services. Which is the way I'd go.

The length of this thread tells you why it has received a lot of coverage. It's a hot topic that divides a lot of opinions (in regards how big an issue it is, not whether it's very unpleasant). It also serves as a warning to be on your guard. You can use the words ugly, fat, skinny, short, bald, thick, and endless swear words with impunity, but add the words black, gay or female and you could be labelled the devil incarnate by the media.
Personally if someone called me a horrible white man I wouldn't be offended. But if someone called me an ugly, lazy, tight-fisted bastard I would be offended. If someone called me an ugly, white, lazy, tight-fisted bastard I would be offended too, but I wouldn't be any more offended with the addition of the word white.
I realise that black and gay has been used as a derogatory term, whereas white hasn't, due to history, religion and being in the minority, so it's not the same. But as I see things we are far more accepting of race and sexual orienation than we were 30 years ago, and so we should be approaching the time where being called black or gay should not cause offence in the same way as being called white is.
Racism and homophobia amongst Muslims is still mainstream though.

For those who haven't seen the full video. Watch it. Also the comments, where it explains what was going on and why. The guy was utterly offensive . Disgusting and unacceptable behaviour. This was a prime example of hate crime. His racial verbal abuse ( plus his threats of physical assault), was enough for him to have been thrown off the plane. Other airlines have done exactly this for less.

I can remember my mum saying to me the slogan "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me" I think she saw it as her way of instilling mental fortitude. I remember it because I thought it was bollox.

Clydebank has it spot on. A poor choice of words you use now can land you into serious trouble.
Whats bizarre is that lots of actual crimes now arent even investigated probably as there isnt time to do so as Police are wasting their time on things like this.

It's noticeable that certain posters appear to put verbal abuse as at least equal to physical violence. If not why suggest it?
So why not simply give the person shouting the abuse a good bollocking if that is the case?
Call him some names back as a punishment if name calling is so injurious or damaging.
Doesn't it say in the Bible an eye for an eye?

An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. No more no less.
You are sentenced to be sat down in a room and called nasty names for a set period of time by articulate verbal abusers.
Doesn't that put the gravity of the ''crime'' in complete perspective?

There is simply no point in throwing people together , and indeed without their consent , and then insisting they will have to like it and be ‘tolerant’ The sheer gaul if it .

Agree with lfc, some people have got chips on their shoulders and they go out of their way to exploit the law which is weighted in their favour. Because of this they're always looking for trouble. The law should be neutral when dealing with people, or risk creating even deeper divisions than are already present.

er no, you're basically giving license to people to be racist using the flimsiest of justifications I've ever heard, no black person would ever read that nonsense and think yes, he has a rather good point there doesn't he, let white folk call us black this and that because it's 2018 and we're used to it, have a day off

Being called black followed by insults or white followed by insults is unacceptable full stop, he justifies it by saying he wouldn't be offended being called a horrible white man, well he can speak for himself, most people would be offended being insulted whilst using their skin colour in the process whatever their skin colour.
Typical knuckle dragging nonsense to come out with, you don't insult someone mentioning their skin colour, unless you were badly brought up.

I didn't say 2018, I said approaching the time. That could be 2050. In an ideal world where people are regarded as equal and have confidence in their own being calling someone a white **** should have the same impact as calling someone a black ****.

I don’t want to hear what happened 50 years ago , or 100 years ago , or 200 years ago
I don’t care , it doesn’t bother me , I insist on being unbothered by that

you referenced 30 years ago then said we should be approaching the time, somehow I don't think you meant another 32 years in 2050 it was obvious you meant soon but that's by the by anyway, you are basically encouraging black people to accept that being insulted, with the word black inserted as a prefix, should be more acceptable because some older (I'm guessing) white folk like yourself don't mind so much about their race being used to insult them, who by the way are few and far between with that mentality, it may not have an equal impact on a white person but most white people would still be offended. The history of the black race being persecuted by the white race during the slave trade in particular, in relateively recent times, means there will be no time soon where the impact of being called black (inserted insult) will be lessened, not in 2018, 2050 or 2100.
I would imagine Gay people would think the same thing, that they don't want to be accepting of being insulted using the word gay to describe them, but it's nice for a straight, white man to tell black and gay people what they should accept. Is this not common sense

scandi what I meant was the future. It may not have been the perfect choice of word but then that is the problem with the easily offended and PC mad world of today. You get the hypocritical PC brigade throwing insults and jumping up and down at the slightest thing.
You refer to "relatively recent slave trade" Is that the slave trade in 2018? The vast majority in this country are not black.

Considering modern humans have been around for 200,000 years, the 1800's was relatively recently, not to mention the way black people were treated in places like America well into the 20th century including being told to give up their bus seat for a white person or sit at the back.
Someone pulls someone up on the promotion of casual racism, but instead of backtracking it's me who is the troll and PC and easily offended
You can't make chit chat up. I think you've been institutionalised by the far right faction that make up the core of the forum, only on this thread you've had the likes of Crippen saying there's nothing wrong with describing her as black and now this.

Rudeness about race suddenly became racism, now racist is a watered down word and is applied to the slightest situation where people are different colour are involved.
And black people who play the race card at the drop of a hat don't like white people. Which makes them pretty strong racists in my book.

People seem to be ignoring the fact that a 77 year old woman suffered a pretty horrible experience and tirade of abuse. It does not matter if it was racist or not. Some of the apologist's on here are embarrassing themselves.
I really do not know what sort of place some of you lot live but where I live if you talked to a 77 year old woman like that you are likely to get a clout. If you talked to someone's mother or grand mother like that you would get a lot worse.
I live in an area that was pretty racist at one time but even the racist's would not tolerate anyone talking to an old woman like that.
Shame on you!
