Utter madness as Birmingham proves. The state brings the charges & the state has to deal with it. Profit from prisons is lunacy as will always lead to
cutting corners and poorer training.

I don't understand how G4S are still going.  When I was a little boy in the early 1990s my brother used to tell me jokes about them.  That's 25-ish years.  G4S and ineptitude go hand-in-hand.

If you think it's bad now, just wait until G5S take over. I'll leave terry to tell you about the dangers. Cry

A friend of mine works in private prison Kilmarnock, he is the quietest gentle bloke you could meet, has been on tranquilizers for 3 years.

Quite agree it's a nonsense to privatise prisons ; we should adopt the American system of building supermax prisons to house prison gang members thus taking them out of the normal prison system which would be of benefit to both inmates and staff.

The idea that the quest for profits is what drives excellence has been proven time and again to be utter nonsense. It doesn't improve quality, it simply leads to cost cutting, trying to get away with sh!t when no-one's looking and putting the squeeze on more vulnerable suppliers.

A pox on our capitalists.

Wouldn't surprise me if G4S employees are taking the drugs etc. into the prison. Drug dealers making more in a day than Joe Bloggs in a G4S uniform makes in a year.

What punishment do prisoners get for taking drugs ?

They receive a tut and a shake of the head.

Sorting out the prison system would be straight-forward if it wasn't for the do-gooders.

I think we need someone like Trump in charge , it is our state that is failing on our prisons ( and everywhere else )not the private companies
By:

Aah, it's the do-gooders' fault.

Not those who operate the prison

Not the prison watchdog

Not the politicians who decided placing them into private hands was a good idea

Not the squeeze on health and social services meaning many prisoners are addicts or suffering from mental illness meaning they should be receiving treatment instead or alongside incarceration

No it's those lefty liberals. It's always their fault.

Well perhaps you can answer then pineapple , what punishment do the prisoners receive for taking drugs and being violent and disruptive ?

Tv and phone removed ?  ok with that ?
By:

sentence increased , if violence has been used doubled ?
By:

When: 20 Aug 18 11:29
I believe they can get placed in solitary or have time added to their sentence.

any examples ?

I’m just saying oeisiners don’t have their sentence increased
If they do it should be easy enough to name a few examples

Take away their tv and phone if they misbehave  ( let them read books)
Would that be acceptable ?
By:
PorcupineorPineapple
When: 20 Aug 18 11:50
Why should it be easy enough to name them? Where would you expect to find the news that a burglar had his sentence upped from 9 months to 15 months? On the 9 o'clock news? In the Telegraph?

Please give evidence that they don't have their sentences increased.

pineapple I am not saying that don’t if they do that’s fine

I don’t believe they do

Ok, please give evidence to support your belief. Why did you come to this idea? What did you read that said no sentences were ever increased for bad behaviour?
By:

Because I have never heard of it happening , that’s why

That’s something we know happens

The trouble with prison privatisation is that it goes from working towards the public good to cell, cell, cell.
By:
lockup
When: 20 Aug 18 13:16
the fault lies totally with the Government Birmingham was privatised purely to break the prison officers union which was strong there with staff who believed in discipline but also cared for the prisoners in their care G4s is cheap doesn't have the training and cant get good staff because people wont put there lives at risk for that money.they were told what would happen if Birmingham went private didn't care save money don't care abt staff or prisoners they alone with cuts etc have allowed prisons to be dangerous and out of control.

Surely the appalling conditions will lead to prisoners not returning?

So it can't be as bad as they're making out if they're still queuing up to get in.

I don't know what kinda company you usually keep, but I wouldn't expect the average forum user to be closely linked to a number of drug dealing prison inmates to be able to just name them from the top of their heads.

prisoners lose days as to when they will be released.... you get your sentence halved under 5 years conviction.
By:
woundedknee
When: 20 Aug 18 14:23
so ...if you get nicked  repeatedly in prison .. you could end up doing all your sentence.
