No idea of sentences for affray but nobody dies and surely there are similar incidents every day in Cities that don't even result in police action? If he was not a high profile sportsman it probably would not have made the local press, never mind national.
By:
I didn't know he broke someone's eye socket, that has to a.b.h. I would have thought and a custodial more than warranted.
By:
Thug, two soft targets, only verbal at the doorman, probably to hard for him, 5 years.
By:
First offence ?
18 months suspended for two years a more likely outcome |
By:
Surely having to play for England again is punishment enough?
By:
He will get some community service order based on his playing for England and the onus on him giving something back to kids.
Also likely to get anger management order for face value. No bird, run of the mill. Only inconvieniencing court because hes well known. |
By:
But because he is well known, in the public eye, top sportsman, paid millions, shouldn't he know how to behave in public?
And not lower himself to act like the regular dregs of society do every weekend? Kick him out the engand team. But that would never happen........... |
By:
He's charged with affray.
From Wiki: A person guilty of affray is liable on conviction on indictment to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 3 years or a fine or both, or on summary conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months or a fine not exceeding the statutory maximum or both |

People Come at you with Bottles and Iron bars, 2 choices Stand Your Ground or Run ,he chose the Former . And HTF has he ended up sitting with them in the Dock ,they have obviously taken no action against him ,the Police have Prosecuted them ... Love to see a bit of history on the Other 2 ,Normal people do not arm themselfs with Bottles and Iron bars ... |

The evidence of the 2 Gay chaps will be rather important. They would seem to be the only ones likely to be impartial.

Does nobody just plead guilty these days ?
You're off your t1ts, spoiling for a fight, get in a fight, hit someone hard enough to fracture their eye socket and the whole thing is caught on camera with you looking hardly looking like the innocent party. At that point I think I'd just be thankful that the other guy seems be to relatively ok now (could easily have been a lot worse charge) and endeavour never to get myself in that situation again. Plead guilty, take a bit of responsibility, spare my family and friends all the aggro and humiliation, do some community service and get on with your life. Might even keep some sponsors and endorsements |
By:
fair logic gb but he obviously believes he is innocent.
By:
His not guilty plea will be the deciding factor in the sentencing decision. I can not remember every chasing a couple of guys down the street and knocking them out in self-defence.
By:
yes very strange plea jed

Hard to see the case for the prosecution when he was one of the blokes knocked spark out.
By:
Apart from not knowing who he is, I don't know why this is such a big news story, just a diversion imo

By:
He makes it sound like somebody head-butted his fist.
And that he was helping people. |
By:
his wife must be a right door mat, what sort of woman has a meal out with her husband ,then goes home while he goes out on the lash, night clubbing with a mate, all very strange

To me, the most offensive thing in all of this is that he is standing in court and openly LYING to the court and to everybody and indeed himself. court is about the truth. i don't know who has advised ben stokes to lie about his story but i think he'd get a lot better time if he just told the truth. there's video evidence to the contrary so why he's coming out with these lies is beyond me. it's almost more contemptuous than knocking somebody out, not owning up to what you've done. i think if he is found guilty then he deserves a lot of time in prison as a punishment not because he knocked someone out but because he's tried to fake a story about why he did it
