he's telling his story because the burden of proof is on the prosecution to provide suitable evidence that he wasn't acting in self-defence.
and they can't, because the people he attacked were behaving in a threatening manner beforehand. true, that it's a very reasonable interpretation that he wasn't and is just a thug, and his story may not be true, but it's also true that you can't be sure of this version of events to convict him. that's how it works. |

there's video evidence of him flicking a cigarette butt at one of the gay men so he clearly wasn't sticking up for them. and there's also video evidence of him committing GBH. it's all a load of horse sh*t and nonsense. punish the guy for what he did on camera
