https://www.theguardian.com/business/2018/apr/24/boost-for-hammond-as-budget-deficit-hits-lowest-level-since-2007

Britain’s budget deficit has dropped to the lowest level since before the financial crisis, laying the ground for Philip Hammond to raise government spending on public services later this year.

The Office for National Statistics said public sector net borrowing, excluding the state-owned banks, dropped by £3.5bn to £42.6bn in the last financial year, cutting the budget deficit to the lowest level since the year ending March 2007.

The OBR forecasts the deficit will fall to £37.1bn this year, around a quarter of what the government borrowed between March 2009 and April 2010 at the peak of the financial crisis.

- tremendous news back in April. Set to get even better by Christmas.

It's remarkable how these left-wingers can change tack at the drop of a hat.

One minute they're calling for more cash for the NHS screaming about underfunding.
Then the next minute if the cash has been forthcoming, they're screaming about inefficiency and prudence. Or spending the money on more important issues, yet what's more important than the nation's health?

Strange lot these left-wingers, scatterbrains or what?

Brexit will leave the Uk in debt. There will be no ' surplus' . Professional finance people all agree on this.
So May, once again , lies. Even hapless and clueless Hunt blurted out on news report this morning that any '  contribution ' from Brext would be
" No where near enough "

It is obvious that what is being proposed is an increase in tax, either income tax or increase in NHi contributions.

If the government are genuinely interested in a long term plan, surely as much focus as possible should be on the demand rather than the supply.
ie, lets address the general healthiness of the nation.   School meals, PE, provision for facilities for exercise, food industry, smoking and boozing,  handing out pills like fckg smarties and so on.

Majority of people shouldn't need any sort of healthcare until they are sixty or over, if they've lived vaguely sensibly and not ragged themselves to pieces through their poor lifestyle choices.  Too many clogging up the NHS with preventable maladies, that stop those who really need it getting immediate and full access.

How does the reported extra 389 million per week relate to as a per year extra spend? I read that 1p on income tax, raises ca. 5 billion for the exchequer.

Income tax is only a tiny proportion of tax revenue for the government.
Not that you'd think it.

Taxes are snidely increased and invokes all the time. We only really notice when we can't afford things.

This money is not money back from the EU and is a projection based on all manner of income sources.

But as always on this poncey waste of time of a forum since all that ever happens is you get is BS about 'leftie' or 'remoaner' in place of looking at plain fact.
Which is about the only reason some of you use this forum.

Amazing isn't it? The government/Trump can do no wrong with you. Even when they do and say loads wrong.

Study,

Income Tax is actually the biggest element of total tax revenue at 25%. Followed by NICs (19%) and VAT (18%)
By:
STUDYFORM
When: 18 Jun 18 14:06
Yes, but 75% is a lot more than 25%. New forms of taxation and differing rates for taxes than income tax happen at every budget.
Also, would suspect than income tax suffers the least Avoision.

Yes, it's probably difficult for employees to avoid income tax.

I would suggest there is capacity within the economy to raise more tax. Total tax revenue is currently around 37% of GDP.

Still on the attack, I.S?
so tell me...

IS 25% A MINORITY OR A MAJORITY OF 100%?
What is 'Leftie' about stating matters of fact?

After the crap you pontificated the other evening, because you're a pr1ck, you are now just exposing yourself as a stalker.

Anyway I've stated a fact.

A minority of tax revenue in income tax.
Is this true or not?

You ought to try thinking (even though it's difficult for you) before typing.

I mean...really. Doesn't May realise this is the age of entitlement??
By:

....Labour complain and suddenly are the party of no tax rises!

Imagine the outcry though if it was Labour in power and announcing.

"Where's the money coming from?"
"Brexit Dividend"
"But your own figures say that doesn't exist"
"Well y'know. Ok then. Erm, efficiencies. Some tax rises. The important thing is we are doing this."
"But can I ask some more about how you're paying for this?"
"No. You've had my answer, now be gone"

Just imagine the press being so meek and accepting if it was Diane Abbott announcing this. Me neither.

No, May didn't announce hints of tax rises. She said it woud be a "Brexit dividend".
Also, why hint? Why not just say?

No-one is objecting to increased funding through tax.

As I always say. People see what they want to see.
By:

She said Brexit would partly fund it then said taxes will rise.
If you are going to play the provider of facts and giver of insight into other people's bias, at least attempt to get your facts right:

"Tax rise need to help pay for £20bn NHS boost, says PM"

Etc. I'm sure you can you google to find extensive proof of how wrong you are...

Any mention of a "Brexit Dividend" is disingenuous. Everything else she said was waffle and evasion.

The rest is semantics and I'm not playing word games for an hour just so you can prove to yourself that the Tories are great and everyone else is a leftie.

Labour want tax rises for the most wealthy. Same as wanting big businesses and fat cats to pay the tax they are evading paying.
