dave1357 - In some cases it would be used. There was one story I remember (either Middle East or Vietnam) enemy soldiers were all over a large hillside and a nerve agent was used to kill them. And in the Gulf War soldiers at risk from exposure of nerve agents were given a drug, can't remember the name or what it was, but it slowed down the effect of a nerve agent binding. So they were being used. But I do see your point and agree, incapacitating soldiers and civilians behind front lines causes more problems than simply killing them instantly.

I'm no expert, but didn't Germany have them in World War 2 but never used chemical warfare. Presumably other countries would have had them as well but never used them (?) But today targets for nerve agents are being used against civilians, this Salisbury case, and the brother of Kim Jong-un in that airport was another, and Alexander Litvinenko.

This Salisbury case has been handled very badly by Theresa May and her dumb Foreign Secretary.

Latest news: "Poisoned ex-spy Sergei Skripal is “improving rapidly” and no longer critically ill, health officials say"

Don't like to make light of this whole terrible case, but Novichok seems to be getting well known for rapid recovery.

"cousin claims they suffered from food poisoning" Laugh food poisoning lasts a whole month? and it makes you "critical" for that length of time? I can understand someone much older getting hit for six with it but younger people usually recover from it pretty quickly.

Electoral chaos is not what we need though Facts.

What this country needs is Jeremy Corbyn leading a Socialist Labour government.

^

That would be terrible for this country. It would end with a united Ireland and Unionists fighting back and a massive new wave of immigrants to our once great nation. That is before you look at destruction of economy with a run on the pound.

If two people can be affected by placing the agent on their door handle, imagine what happens when the same is done on the london tube. I still haven't seen the public ask the right questions. Everyone is interested in the question, Russia or no proof? And that's the whole point of making it look like a mess. Media for the win!

If anyone is fooled by the rubbish coming out the TV we might as well pack up and let them do as they please anyway. We've supposedly had a chemical attack in Syria, kids and women sprawled out on the floor, instant death. an old bloke and his daughter directly in contact with a nerve agent... jumping out of bed having made a miraculous recovery. The mind boggles.

A one-year suspended for selling Novichok? Shocked

---

Poisoning of Ivan Kivelidi and Zara Ismailova

Supposed Novichok agent formula from the forensic analysis in the Kivelidi case[63]
The forerunner of Novichok agents, substance-33 (frequently also referred to simply as "Novichok")[64] has been reportedly used in 1995 to poison Russian banker Ivan Kivelidi (ru), the head of the Russian Business Round Table, and Zara Ismailova, his secretary.[65][66][67][68][69] According to historians Yuri Felshtinsky and Vladimir Pribylovsky, the murder became "one of the first in the series of poisonings organized by Russia's security services". The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs analyzed the substance and announced that it was "a phosphorus-based military-grade nerve agent"[70] "whose formula was strictly classified".[70] According to Nesterov, the administrative head of Shikhany, he did not know of "a single case of such poison being sold illegally" and noted that the poison "is used by professional spies".[70]

Vladimir Khutsishvili, a former business partner of the banker, was subsequently convicted for the killings.[65] According to The Independent, "A closed trial found that his business partner had obtained the substance via intermediaries from an employee of the State Research Institute of Organic Chemistry and Technology (ru) (GosNIIOKhT),[71] which was involved in the development of Novichoks. However, Khutsishvilli, who claimed that he was innocent, had not been detained at the time of the trial and freely left the country. He was arrested only in 2006 after he returned to Russia, believing that the ten-year old case was closed.[70] According to Felshtinsky and Pribylovsky, Khutsishvilli was framed for the murder by Russia's security services which had access to the chemical agent and used it to organize the murder on the orders of a senior Russian state official.[70]

The employee of GosNIIOKhT Leonard Rink received a one-year suspended sentence for selling Novichok agents to unnamed buyers "of Chechen ethnicity" soon after the poisoning of Kivelidi and Izmailova."[72][73]

I am sure there are enough patriotic sheeps ready to take up arms and get posted to Syria to give their lives defending UK in Syria.

All you need is enough people like above. The confused.com types like you will be handled by the politicians and aren't a big issue really. At least going by the wars of the last 3 decades

Nothing new or tangible from the OPCW... 1.01 weighed in... as you were with the mud-slinging, claims and counter-claims. Cry

The international chemical weapons watchdog has confirmed the UK's analysis of the type of nerve agent used in the Russian ex-spy poisoning.

The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons did not name the nerve agent as Novichok, but said it agreed with the UK's findings.

Russia has denied it was behind the attack on Sergei and Yulia Skripal in Salisbury, as Theresa May has claimed.

The OPCW carried out the investigation at the request of the UK government.

The substance used on Sergei Skripal was an agent called BZ, according to Swiss state Spiez lab, the Russian foreign minister said. The toxin was never produced in Russia, but was in service in the US, UK, and other NATO states.
Sergei Skripal, a former Russian double agent, and his daughter Yulia were poisoned with an incapacitating toxin known as 3-Quinuclidinyl benzilate or BZ, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said, citing the results of the examination conducted by a Swiss chemical lab that worked with the samples that London handed over to the Organisation for the Prohibition of the Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

The Swiss center sent the results to the OPCW. However, the UN chemical watchdog limited itself only to confirming the formula of the substance used to poison the Skripals in its final report without mentioning anything about the other facts presented in the Swiss document, the Russian foreign minister added. He went on to say that Moscow would ask the OPCW about its decision to not include any other information provided by the Swiss in its report.

The Swiss center mentioned by Lavrov is the Spiez Laboratory controlled by the Swiss Federal Office for Civil Protection and ultimately by the country’s defense minister. The lab is also an internationally recognized center of excellence in the field of the nuclear, biological, and chemical protection and is one of the five centers permanently authorized by the OPCW.

The Russian foreign minister said that London refused to answer dozens of “very specific” questions asked by Moscow about the Salisbury case, as well as to provide any substantial evidence that could shed light on the incident. Instead, the UK accused Russia of failing to answer its own questions, he said, adding that, in fact, London did not ask any questions but wanted Moscow to admit that it was responsible for the delivery of the chemical agent to the UK.

So... reports that plod's game of Guess Who has finished:

A source with knowledge of the investigation told the Press Association: “Investigators believe they have identified the suspected perpetrators of the Novichok attack through CCTV and have cross-checked this with records of people who entered the country around that time. They (the investigators) are sure they (the suspects) are Russian.”

And Bond meanwhile picked up a coded message from the villains telling Vlad that the eau de toilette has been sprayed. Allegedly:

Russian agents responsible for the Novichok poisonings in Salisbury sent a coded message to Moscow which included the phrase, "The package has been delivered", it was claimed last night.
A British intelligence listening station based in Cyprus, allegedly picked up the message shortly after former Russian double agent, Sergei Skripal, and his daughter, Yulia, were attacked in March.

Russians trading at 1.14 on the whodunnit market I'd say. Presumably names will come out eventually, but I'd also presume Russia would continue to deny it anyway and no-one will actually go in the slammer - market voided job like Litvinenko.
