saddo - simply staggering. Nothing offensive. Merely witty and terribly sad. 'Diversity walls' is brilliant given the Bishop of Liverpool's absurd attack on Trump's Christian supporters.

'Bishop Bayes told the newspaper: "Some of the things that have been said by religious leaders seem to collude with a system that marginalises the poor, a system which builds walls instead of bridges'.

I did enjoy the wall irony, trump is wrong to build walls but europe builds them around market places weekly.

Should Christians really feverishly throw their support behind an ultra braggadacious, multiple times divorced adulterer, serial liar? But hey, he brought back Christmas because the Obamas never wished anyone a Merry Christmas. Or so he claimed in his ever braggadacious, lying ways.

Report Injera • December 29, 2017 12:15 PM GMT
All Christians are called to pray for those who govern us.

Trump is the POTUS. Many Christians are right to offer him support. He is seeking to protect the States by maintaining strong borders. Unlike Clinton and Obama he believes in the unborn's right to life.

Such views helped him to win the election and I wish him well despite his many imperfections.
Report edy • December 29, 2017 12:43 PM GMT
That sounds very subordinate. No wonder people in Europe suffered so much from being fettered by rulers all throughout Christianity until we finally started freeing us from it.
Report Injera • December 29, 2017 12:45 PM GMT
Ok, Ok, I'll bite one more time.

Name me 6 countries untouched by Christianity that you would be happy to raise a family in.
Report edy • December 29, 2017 12:49 PM GMT
Is there even one country completely untouched by Christianity? Like, we Christians taught the entire world how to hate gay people and jews. So no, I could not name 6 countries untouched by Christianity that I would be happy to raise a family in.

Can you name 6 countries untouched by Enlightenment and liberalism that you would be happy to raise a family in?
Report edy • December 29, 2017 12:52 PM GMT
'cuz, kind of without Enlightenment and liberalism our countries would be Christian Saudi-Arabia (on drugs)
Report edy • December 29, 2017 1:10 PM GMT
Highly oppressive, demanding prayer and unquestioning subordination to our rulers, death for apostasy, death for being gay, death for being a woman that loves herself some herbs, threat of death for going against what the church dictates you to think, women generally treated like trash.

Man, Christianity sure rocked hard before brave people of the past began the process of freeing us and reducing its power and influence. An environment that is every man's dream to raise a family in.

You can't have the enlightenment without Christianity , theyarw the same thing, direct descendants
Report lfc1971 • December 29, 2017 1:16 PM GMT
Christianity and its early leaders, and Christ himself can trace their ideas and view of humanity directly back to Ancient Greece and forward to the European enlightenment , especially in Britain
Report edy • December 29, 2017 1:17 PM GMT
True, you could not have had Enlightenment without people being fed up with aspects of Christianity and the powerful (like them telling their underlings that they were chosen directly by God and that you should pray for them)
Report lfc1971 • December 29, 2017 1:27 PM GMT
Well that's if you assume that people believed that kings were directly appointed by god
I suppose many did , many people believe in letting a few people in the House of Parliament decide their future
And done others don't , that is neither here nor there
Christianity puts the individual responsible for his own freedoms , if allows  the individual to decide in everything and on everything that is what is so different about Christianity and some other religions.
In other religions people are not thought of in the same way , and in politics also , in communism of Nazism people are not so fully human as in enlightened Christian countries and forms of government
Report lfc1971 • December 29, 2017 1:28 PM GMT
You see even in Ancient Greece they had their gods and their great generals and their great people , that's natural
Report lfc1971 • December 29, 2017 1:34 PM GMT
To believe in a God does not mean you cannot also believe in the enlightenment,
In the enlightenment you look at what the teacher of that religion says and how he lives
So it depends , look at the life of Christ , and what he taught, and look at the life of other religious leaders , such as Muhammad and what he taught, it depends on the religion
And then you might see the connection between Christianity and the enlightenment
Report screaming from beneaththewaves • December 29, 2017 1:39 PM GMT
The Enlightenment was 200 years of efforts to understand God through reason.

When René Descartes announced that he thought, therefore he was, it was to emphasize that he was a product of God. What else could something as perfect and unchanging as rational thought be than a manifestation of God, l'immuable, l'infini, l'éternel, le tout connaissant, le tout puissant?

The loss of belief in God, loss of faith in the power of reason, the challenge of an evolving, fluid world, wasn't confronted for another 200 years, with Schopenhauer and Nietzsche. A reaction against the Enlightenment, in other words.
Report lfc1971 • December 29, 2017 1:42 PM GMT
Say what you will Christ never forced anyone to follow his teachings , that is enlightened and enlightening even in itself .unlike some religious leaders who lived a different life of murder and torture and all manner of evil things ..
Now you can safely say that is not enlightened

True. Too bad his followers weren't so kind as they kept terrorising others, destroyed the cultural achievement of others, and forced conversion (or conformism) by the sword throughout history.

That's the second time you bring up my post count out of absolute nowhere. Care to enlighten us about its relevance in this, or the other, discussion? I don't quite see it I gotta say. If you are so desperate for an explanation however: The chatty interface of the forum lends itself to a lot of posting at times. Even more so when your main interest is exciting sports like tennis that is on all year and has a lot happening all the time. That thrilling Wimbledon match between Isner and Mahut alone is responsible for about 10% of my post count.

On the video: The focus on Merkel is a bit weird I gotta say. Not only is the UK's % of citizens born outside the EU still higher than that of Germany, but the people that came to Germany in 2015 aren't even eligible to just move or travel to the UK. In all reality the blocs of concrete on the British Isles should be called Tory Post WWII Government Lego or Great Reminder of the Fantastic British Colonial Past Lego.

In general, instead of the misplaced polemics, the video would've done well to concentrate on pointing out how important it is in our fight against islamistic terror to secularise and help our brothers free themselves from islam like we have done from Christianity.

You could specifically promote modern mosques like that of the German-Turkish female iman and lawyer in Berlin. Of course that's met with strong resistance from the religious hardliners just like similar things were met with resistance within Christianity, but as you can see, eventually it is bound to be successful. It just takes time.

It's far from too late. The vast majority is already well integrated and secularised. But obviously there is still work to do.

The muslim world in general is being americanised/westernised/secularised. Currently there is a bit of a hiccup, a last hooray so to speak, of the terrible religious people, but there is no stopping or reversing the general trend, even with Bannon attempting to seduce Trump into the USA giving up its role of the global benevolent leader. Even Saudi-Arabia is opening slowly but surely.

You see people don't change unless they are forced to change or want to change
How is this done ? Well there are different ways
The best way is not to allow them into your country , that's what happened in west and east Germany
The East Germans eventually were forced to change , because  they could hear the music from the other side of the wall
And they were not aliwwd in
So eventually and without any trouble whatever to the Germans in the west
They changed
That is the best and least dangerous and less troublesome way of doing things
If people are capable of becoming civilised they will , but only if you make it clear that they can't come in unless they realise that
