There was an odd generational thing in the mid-70s. Girls venerated the Osmonds but for their older sisters, it was David Cassidy; later, their younger sisters would scream for the Bay City Rollers. I expect now their granddaughters have One Direction posters in their bedrooms.

The fandom surrounding Cassidy approached the hysteria of Beatlemania a decade earlier and culminated in a stampede at a 1974 show in London. Hundreds were injured, and a 14-year-old girl caught in the crush died days later.

David Cassidy had a brilliant voice I saw him once in a play in the West End - Best voice I ever heard. He was known for having loads of adoring female fans (groupies) and he wasn't always the nicest to them. Just to replace the earlier REMOVED post I put on here.
