IS - more BBC being let down by their pundits - However some Director presided over a one-sided bearpit where someone doing/done their job is cross examined by three famous athletics "names" egged on by someone who "dun't know hay from a bulls foot". I thought the lady was credible. fact-based and showed considerable self-control and credibility.

it still seems very odd to me.
They have stopped him running without knowing for definite if he has a contagious virus and there is a dispute over how many times he was sick. Banning someone because of symptoms which could be anything doesn't seem right, and they've used the bug going around as a convenient excuse. You have to ask the question, do you really think the IAAF would have banned Usain Bolt or Mo Farah from competing in the same situation ? you must be joking. Seems to me, that want to promote stars esp to replace the like of Bolt, and have made sure Niekerk wins. To his credit Van Niekerk didn't celebrate winning a World Championship medal one bit, maybe he feels embarrassed to have had it handed to him on a plate and the 200m. |

They hardly need to prevent Mokwana running for WVN to win - especially if he's been chucking up
|
|
By:
Pitiful scenes as Professor Yorath and her junior doctors are suddenly now qualified to ask questions on medical matters. I'm amazed that nice lady kept her cool. That was excruciating viewing.
Whatever happened to Patient Confidentiality by the way? I'm not sure I'd want all manner of herberts discussing my medical condition to the great unwashed. Whatever next? Are Gabby, Paula and Dennis going to be asking officials which of the competitors has the biggest **** and whether it will hamper his running? |
|
By:
Van Niekerk was moved to an easier heat after initially be given a tougher heat, that can't be ignored either. Mokwana said he was feeling well and ready to race, that would explain why they were worried, that he was telling the truth.
BBC Pundits are getting canned on twitter. |
|
By:
Who the hell do those pundits think they are?
|
|
By:
I think the pundits thought they were just reflecting the general feelings towards the situation that the general public were displaying on social media.
Just to be clear though as she said, it was an IAAF decision not to let him run, beyond her or a doctor's jurisdiction. I've seen the video of him trying to get into the stadium, quite sad shambolic scenes really. |

You can't let disease into the arena !

Gatlin wins gold in the 100m after two bans for illegal drug taking, Semenya wins bronze despite testosterone levels well above the legally allowed, whilst Makwala isn't allowed to run because he's thrown up once. You couldn't make it up.
|
|
By:
and you forgetting mo coached by a dodgey coach
|
|
By:
He went to the IAAF doctor himself and told them that he had been throwing up for 14 hours.
He was displaying the same symptoms as other athletes from the same hotel, who were also stopped from completing and quarantined, as the bug had been identified as being highly infectious. It was only after realizing that he wouldn't be allowed to compete that the athlete and his Federation seem to be suggesting that he wasn't as ill as he obviously relayed to the IAAF doctor (unless you think that that trained clinician would put their career in peril by falsifying the stated symptoms of an athlete?). Given what is at stake for the respective parties, my spidey-senses are telling me that the word of the doctor as to what happened is most likely correct and that the correct procedures followed. As for the grilling of the doctor on last nights coverage, simply outrageous and uncomfortable viewing. She doesn't go on there and tell Logan how to mangle a link, or Radcliffe how to whinge how the rules are slanted against 'real' women. |
|
By:
Better than bottling the hard questions.....for which they would have got more stick !
|
|
By:
There's asking the question and there's badgering an expert on a subject about which you know nothing. As demonstrated by Radcliffe asking why the athlete wasn't blood tested, only to be told that that wasn't the correct test for that type of illness.
When the penny eventually dropped that they were on thin ice they changed the argument to being one of terrible communication. Which was also bollocks, the athlete had done a runner and changed his story, the IAAF were consistent in their approach - "you've presented these symptoms, so you're quarantined". Honestly, I thought it was shocking broadcasting. |
|
By:
That's why I watch Eurosport, they just get on with showing the sport and don't have panels of experts to discuss numerous replays of events.
|

Everyone hates the BBC so it seems so any excuse to knock them people will take it.
On a more lighter note, on the news yesterday during one broadcast, someone in the background in the newsroom was caught watching what appeared to be porn film ![]() |

By:
Another couple of minutes and I think the Doctor would have lost her cool. It was getting riduclous towards the end.
Logan summed it up by saying noone comes out of this well which was an absurd thing to say with the Doctor sitting there. |

Shades of 2012 when arch-villain Makhloufi was kicked out days before and then went on to win 1500m
Lot of know-all layers were hugely stung |

the poor sods are the people who backed non runners when the people laying them knew they were not running.

he's suddenly cured?

was he ever ill in the first place?

More nonsense are per usual, backed Makwala top 3 at start of week then informed he was pulling out the 200m, so decided to back Jareem Richards for top3 now I learn Malwala is back in, making this so called cover bet that little bit harder, mind you might get 2 placed here, so shouldn't grumble.......
