Surely he has the legs to carry him to Tokyo, would have thought being robbed of his 9th Gold medal would have pushed him on. Still only 30 years old.

At the age of 52, Ottey competed in the 4x100 meters relay at the 2012 European Athletics Championships. The Slovenian team only ranked No. 22 in the world before the 2012 Olympics and only the top 16 teams got to run.

I don't know why it's disrespectful him

Surprised he's only 30.

Let's face it he's achieved it all and should look at other opportunities now.

It's not exactly an interesting event. The training must be painful and he runs so damn fast the races are over in less time than it takes to boil a kettle.

Why would he risk going on and getting caught for drugs and ruin his legacy at this point?
Report zorrostrikes • August 2, 2017 9:35 PM BST
nobody gets caught taking drugs, they are outed. they all take drugs.

look at the competitors of thirty years ago. Seb coe was a stick figure. there were fatties throwing the hammer. people looked normal. now they have muscles on muscles and their excuse is sports science.. better nutrition, better work outs?

look at the rugby guys? they are muscular tanks. i ran for twenty years, i've got solid muscular legs. these guys are abnormal. they are taking something.

Flo jo wasn't caught - she died young - heart issues. tell me that wasn't steroids? and why didn't it show up? because it's all buttoned down. if they need an example they let one take a hit.

Report scandanavian_haven • August 4, 2017 2:27 PM BST
Purely physical events like Cycling and certain athletic events that have no skill level gain more attention for drug use probably because it's more prevalent. Drug takers in sports like football, Tennis and Basketball can improve physically all they want and minimalizes recovery time but there's no drug to increase natural talent so your level will never increase much and neither will results, whereas in predominantly physical sports it dramatically improves results, some records I just can't believe, even British held ones.

Since 2008 there have been 148 drug violations recorded by UKAD.  8 were cyclists, 11 from athletics and a massive 61, thats 41%, from rugby. Yet have you ever heard the  media acknowledge that rugby has a problem.
The problem appears to also be getting worse as if you just take violations during the last 2 years the figure from rugby goes up to 52% of all the people banned.
Report zorrostrikes • August 4, 2017 4:33 PM BST

Athletics cheats get the big headlines because it's all on the clock. 100th of a second can make the difference between gold and silver.

Hard to prove a rugby cheat gains that much of an advantage. They're all massive including the wingers. Very unnatural.

Bolt said a couple of years ago that his body can't do what his mind wants it to do anymore, I thought given his age he could still break one of his sprint records, but it does explain why he's retiring if he no longer genuinely thinks he can top what he's already done, though I still would have thought he is good enough to win 3 more gold's in Tokyo but probably too satisfied with his lot already.

Report scandanavian_haven • August 5, 2017 10:26 PM BST
Because they are different people, Bolt is a party boy and for him he's won enough. Rowing is an incredibly gruelling sport but Redgrave never rowed alone, Bolt runs alone, I too would have thought another Olympics was in him but you can tell from his performances recently, his lack of meets, the way he has been talking that his heart no longer in it, also Bolt has won 8 Olympics Golds by age 28, Redgrave had won 2 by that age.
Report TheBetterBettor • August 5, 2017 10:29 PM BST

Report scandanavian_haven • August 5, 2017 10:53 PM BST
Winning is done in training, he hadn't done enough due to back injury which he flew to Germany for just last month, but even having all the motivation in the world.

Either way it does not matter, he is a 3x Olympic champion on both sprint distances, I imagine anyone else in that position would be completely satisfied with his lot and move on, think he wants to be a footballer and was talking last year about a trial with Dortmund, I would guess Centre back would be his position, not sure what his touch and ball skills are like though.

I makes it even better, the guy who everyone expected and wanted to win, who had won everything and was running one final time, to the be beaten by the guy who everyone hated because of drugs, to then beat him fair and square.

Bolt is 6ft5, he takes less steps over 100m and when he does take a step it's over a longer distance than those with shorter legs take, though that's only part of it. He doesn't need drugs, those behind him need drugs to catch up.
