Edwards didn't present the news tonight. The BBC has obviously decided to do the smokescreen of not enough right-on-ness being the issue, not the huge amounts.
There was rather obviously a black guy and a black woman talking about this on the BBC news, then now it's female presenter Kirsty Wark on Newsnight. Are these the normal presenters for a Wednesday night, or (and this isn't exactly a tin foil hat theory) did the BBC line them up deliberately knowing the flak they were about to get and how they'd play it? Look at the Daily Politics. Coburn isn't bad but she is a fraction as good as Neil. They are both presenters, should she get the same money? If Neil left the program it would be hugely damaged, she could be far more easily replaced. Look at how bad Newsnight is now with the newer presenters, it's rare I watch it. Especially that LBC guy, he's unwatchable. |

It's just struck me. The only things I've actually watched on the BBC since they sacked Clarkson have been the two Captain America films at Christmas, and the first five minutes of Have I Got News For You after the EU referendum. I didn't enjoy being insulted by the latter, so I switched that off, and that was it.
Not very good value for £147/year, now I think about it. |

You don't like James O'Brien because he is a very bright left of centre guy.......he terrifies you

The shockingly nasty out of touch condescending troll that is John Humphrys, for me.

By:
Not sure but are the BBC paying black presenters enough ? That would take up much of the discussion time.

O'Brien "Bright"? It's not very hard to talk over people or speak in a sneering patronising manner.

Clive Myrie, who did not make the list and therefore makes under £150,000 a year, was drafted in to front both of the BBC's news bulletins - the News as Six and the News at ten tonight.

Find O'Brian very difficult to listen/watch, lives permanently up his own Orifice .

Are people genuinely shocked about the salaries? - entertainment as an industry operates on a level similar to football. Didnt people hate it when Beeb personalities move to ITV? - they've come out and said they would get paid more if they left the BBC, and they're probably spot on - the Mail has had a campaign against the BBC for years, this is manna from heaven for that piece of s hit newspaper and its moronic readership

have to say £150-200k for moira stuarts 10 min daily slot is money for old rope,no evidence of a gender pay gap there.makes you wonder what the traffic girls get, theyre probably on six figures as well.you'd think evans could manage to do the lot himself for his £2m,although hes always liked to stuff his shows full of sycophants.

Newsreaders are not just autocue readers that's doing them a bit of a disservice, they have all sorts of guests they have to question and question intelligently including politicians, whilst thinking on their feet in reply to their answers, I do admit though some of their do seem to carry an air of self importance and probably think they are more important than they are but on National TV covering important topics it's understandable they're well paid, probably too well paid yes.
What I would like to know, as he's been mentioned on these threads, is if everyone at the BBC knew about Jimmy Saville, why was he still invited on to BBC TV shows, like Have I got News for you and guest presenting Top of the Pops again. Maybe it's because he had something on some others at the BBC. |

dont think moira does any interviewing, just reads the headlines & has a bit of banter with evans.wouldnt have thought people tune into radio 2 for news anyway, anyone wanting the serious stuff would surely be onto radio 4
|

By:
Radio 4, Jesus! Radio to cut your wrists to. I've never had it on without hearing of some woman or other who crawled 3000 miles on broken glass to escape.... (insert nasty country of choice)

It has to be amusing when so many left wing supporters are so keen to justify astronomical salaries for BBC plodders instead of rushing to condemn the greed, the imbalance and fraudulent impersonation of a celebrity that is happening to a public sector organisation. Milking the taxpayer seems to be acceptable behaviour ?

I like watching Match of the Day, but I watch a recording of it and then zap my way through all the inane comments by lineker, shearer etc to see the action. They should have a competition with anyone applying, like britain's got talent, to see who could do the job at a fraction of the price. Someone funny with a very good knowledge and preferably has been in the game would be a good bet.
Before anyone wonders I watch at it a friends house, not mine as I have no tv. |

Edwards and Vine are on more than 11-12k a week. More in Vine's case.
Is Huw really worth almost the average annual salary every 2 weeks for reading an autocue? When was the last time he actually interviewed anyone? He's not. Many people could do the same or better. Ranting about the Daily Mail is ridiculous it's nothing to do with the Daily Mail. Though the Mail is correct about the BBCs bias. Katya Adler their Europe person is so obviously hugely pro EU and pro mass migrant it's unbelievable, you know as soon as she comes on that she's going to take a side and which side she'll take. She might as well wear an EU badge on her lapel and run a ship taxi service to Libya, god knows how she gets away with it. |

Quite tasty though.
I reckon Shearer's salary works out at around £225,000 per original thought. |
|
By:
He's a bit marmite, but say G Norton IS a talent, he's obviously a one of a kind love him or hate him. He'd be hard to replace, and you could imagine him getting poached. Even Clarkson when he worked for the BBC, you could see how he might make big money other places and is a strong character and personality, and importantly they both make money for the BBC via BBC worlwide sales so I'm guessing pay their own way. I don't resent the guys who do pay their own way. But many of the rest of them ... honestly.
It's a strange world where we are looking at 150-200-300k and saying that's not so much for "talent" you hardly know exist and who few of us would notice if they were off the air. |

annie sums up what most MOTD followers think.
'I like watching Match of the Day, but I watch a recording of it and then zap my way through all the inane comments by lineker, shearer etc to see the action.' 'Inane' is aperfect description. They don't add to the pictures they ditract from them. The beeb pay the Prem peanuts and get a monkey's offering. A few minutes per game and then they infill with inane chatter that benefits noone except Lineker and his peasants. Lineker's socialist leanings don't help him either. Apparently he's on his hols in a £600 a night hotel in America.... |
|
By:
Pathetic hypocrites like Lineker make me sick. I'll never watch match of the day ever again. Their gravy guzzling pundits will never ever criticise the premier league. The premier league is awful, full of mediocre players with no ambition whatsoever going through the motions each week and collecting totally undeserved obscene amounts for doing sod all. Entertainment, you must be joking, the game is about as exciting as formula one. As for Alan Shearer, I'd rather listen to a rusty Metal Mickey with a failing battery.
|

By:
I just wanna know how much that smug **** Mike Embley gets
![]() |
|
By:
Why's Lineker a hypocrite? - you can have a social conscience without automatically passing all your cash to people less fortunate you know
And as for the £600 a night hotel - rich people stay in more expensive hotels than poorer people - this isnt news |

Chris Evans £2m or so, listen to radio 2 from 8am to 4pm and no doubt he's the worst, do not find him the least bit amusing, used to like him years ago on tfi Friday.... Ken Bruce on £250k must be chuffed!!!!
|
|
By:
Lineker also works for BT Sport on Champions League nights, so his income will be even more than Evans.
|
|
By:
Most of the complaints seem to be: I personally do not like X therefore X is overpaid.
As @Paddy Hair says, BT Sport have also signed up Gary Lineker, so he must be doing something right, even if it is only being famous enough to generate news coverage of BT Sport. Chris Evans has the biggest radio audience in the country, even if he is not everyone's cup of tea. Otoh I do not watch MotD or listen to Radio 2. |
|
By:
the other channels are no better
I wonder what message sky news was sending out this morning at 6am with two newish PC right on presenters of the correct PC group. A very colourful presentation!!! If you get what I mean. |
|
By:
Lineker is overpaid but it isn't his fault. It's the BBC's.
Of course he has every right to pay for whatever expensive hotel he can afford. But his political musings contrast with his lifestyle. Very similar to George Clooney. These folk appear unaware of the perception they give. |
