It's no wonder the BBC have lost The Open, Test matches and countless other sporting events when you consider what they feel they have to spend on the likes of Lineker, Shearer and Barker.
Does Lineker pick up even more for his BT Sports presentations? |

Peter Glaze would probably be on around £200 million a year in today's money. He'd probably be unemployable though for more than 44 weeks of the year.
In Thorougbred Breeding terms, Pete would probably be the FRANKEL or GALILEO of Light Entertainment. Paid £150,000 for a couple or minutes work, maybe a couple of dozen times a year, affordable by only the very rich. |

That's without the mugs that are on BBC but paid by a BBC production company thereby avoiding their salaries being published.

I've just happened upon a BBC prog called Money For Nothing, absolutely dreadful. Content is where the money should go, not presenters and newsreaders.

every hour of bbc tv costs £50,000 pounds, I worked it out a few years ago.
So Bargain hunt, being repeated is raking in a fortune as it's complete filler. Utter pap. Any dead time during the night? Money is building up. Look at the schedule and ask is that show worth £50,000 per hour. I watched a programme on tv acquisitions? they went along to a exhibition hall were different tv programme manufacturers sell their shows. So one vendor was selling Columbo episodes - each columbo costs £25,000 to screen on your tv station. If you buy multiple episodes the price dropped. So it might be only £12,000 if you screened a whole season? So if you filled the BBC with imported products it could be a quarter of the price. £12,000 versus £50,000. |

Surely Glaze did all right out of the royalties from American Pie and Vincent. Or did Maclean do to Glaze what Lennon & McCartney did to Harrison & Starr?

We had a reveal of the salaries paid by Irish national broadcaster RTE a year or two back.
I think the Irish salaries, although lower that the BBC top salaries, were not far behind. And the Irish salaries were very poor value for what we got / are getting. We have some right planks. As an Irishman I can say this is about the only area where England are superior. BBC salaries have some relationship with performance. |

The list is for those earning more than £150k. Many among them are screwing us. But I reckon there are hundreds more earning £75k+ for doing nowt.

Ps how can Lineker sleep at night?? Earning £1.8m for MOTD (which is utter gash) and once a year SPOTY.

These are just presenters, what do the top execs pick up?
|
|
By:
The barstewards are more concerned about the disparity between the salaries of male and female presenters than the sheer obscenity of these salary levels.
|

I posted this on Politics earlier:
What's clear is that the BBC is not a meritocracy. And the people who keep ratcheting up the pay of the presenters, do so simply so that they can use that pay as a yardstick with which to argue their own salaries. So it's no mystery why they're getting overpaid any more than why the executives in top companies are overpaid. Where colleagues set their levels of pay, and then they return the favour. And up goes the pay all around. |

Thanks, Dr Crippen. I don't bother reading the Politics forum because of the insanity posted there by a select few. (you know who they are).

Crazy salaries ..how do they justify it
I wonder how much Jimmy was paid ? |
|
By:
I had to google who many of these people were. Claudia Winkleman, no idea. Jeremy Vine .. I knew the name and see he's a quiz show host who does some radio. £700 a year?
He could have retired and become a pig farmer 10 years ago and I'd never have noticed. Andrew Neil shockinly underpaid. He does real interviews and journalism and has to think on his feet. Huw Edwards reads autocue. A welsh Ron Burgundy. They should stick "Go * yourself San Diego" on it and see what happens. |
|
By:
He wouldn't fall for that one. "San diego" means "whale's vagina" in Welsh.

There was revue of the BBC before the referendum where some sharp changes were expected.
In the event the changes fell far short of what was predicted. Perhaps the government did a deal with the BBC to back the remain campaign in return for giving them a reprieve. Or at least not to support Brexit. |

Kirsty Wark on tonights Newsnight. For over 15 years on the lower rung of the paygrades....

If the public didn't feel the need to elevate people who are simply doing their trade, to stardom, these ridiculous wages would not be an issue. We have become a nation of grovelling sycophants.
