Hopefully they wont be booked into a Premier Inn.

Around 4000 people looking for tempory housing, wow.
These stories going to get worse imo. Probably the correct decision but its some upheaval and the 2 to 4 weeks timescale seems very optimistic. |
By:
Good that they are doing something about the danger imo.

Sky said there wont be any enforcement and on seconds thoughts if work is beginning straight away tbh I would actually stay given the risk is so minimal. maybe a bit of an overraction to ask them to leave especially at such short notice, the first a women in one of the blocks heard about it was when she was watching on the news at 8pm, interviewed on the same news an hour later
By:
I thought they had to go tbh.
In that case i think i would stay as well, Probably been living blissfully unaware a few years anyway. In fairness its good they gave them the option. |

There'll be lots of overreactions, given the furore. Mind, it was an overreaction to Green demands that made em flammable in the first place.
By:
And the left were blaming councils or government that cladded these buildings now react differently when as solution is dealt.
By:
Seems now they have to go

What causes a freezer to explode? How rare is it?
By:
ibra do you really have to drag politics into absolutely everything

It's all about safety, in my job their are no 2nd guesses.

I heard there are 5 fridge fires a week across the country, Injera. They say there is no inflammable insulation. That space shuttle must be blessed.
By:
Good to see it happening so fast ...
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-40389148 Re the freezer - maybe wedged tight up against a wall or some clothing had fallen down the back? |
By:
There have been so many recalls on exploding white goods, but in line with globalisation they seem to get away with it.

By:
they were all fine for forty years? one freak occurrence bin them all.
move em all to Cardiff? |

Poor geezer in a wheelchair with cerebral palsy told about evacuation by a neighbour. What is wrong with these people in charge, they're human beings ffs show some humanity.
By:
a bit abrupt, i had asbestos and they gave me months warning. before papping me out.
By:
Complete over-reaction. I look forward to increasing cases of mass hysteria - as in lots of fainting schoolgirls. But this one is politically motivated (without looking I'd be fairly certain Camden is Labour-run) - intended to overload May (that wont be difficult). There will be more premature deaths due to this evacuation than fire deaths in the next decade or two.
By:
the only justification for this sort of heavy handedness is the blocks are targets for isis tits.
By:
the real reason for the evacuation was they found 500 keys o coke on the thirtheenth floor and have to sneak it out under the residents noses.
By:
The more I watch this the more it really does seems well over the top, the chances of any resident being killed crossing the road are far greater than the chances of the blocks going up in flames, I'm not sure if it's Camden Leader Geroginia Gould trying to look in charge and competent or the council going into complete panic mode over the though of being sued should on the off chance one of the 5 blocks becaming another Grenfell.
There are dozens and dozens of mattreses very close to each other on the floor of a sports centre with no sign of at least a blanket or pillow, strangers all asked to sleep next to each other (let's hope there are no weirdo's), no thought given to those with medical needs or those that have mental health problems or the elderly. And every single one of them found out on the news, what does that say....it says Camden Council were more interested in getting out the message "look what we're doing, we're a responsible local authority in control of our affairs", than they were letting their resident know they were going to become homeless in a respectable reasonable way, should have been much more orderly. |
By:
Usually comfortable, cossetted, flexi-time, work when you want, COUNCIL EMPLOYEES - looking after THEMSELVES .... just in case.
Job protection, Career protection, Pension protection - at vast cost to the Council TAX, and National TAX payer - in order to cover THEIR backs ... just in case. |

A nice little job for a cladding contractor, or three, and suspicions as to why they were awarded the contract!!!!
By:
remember when they put the cladding up. A set of tower blocks on Adelaide Road sandwiched between Belsize Park and Primrose Hill, so again, cosmetic improvements to the appearance of low-cost housing in two high value areas, and I often wondered what renovations they were doing inside.
As for the evacuation, I suspect insurance concerns are steering decisions. If not, and it's merely for the sake of being seen to do something, the cost of employing full-time fire wardens in each of the three buildings would be cheaper. |
By:
Agree with scandy, political virtue signalling. Quite sickening what they will put people through to create more drama out of this incident.
By:
The fire service advised evacuating the buildings I believe, so they've got little option but to take immediate action. The authorities are now in a no win situation. Everyone wants action to be taken, unless the action involves disruption to their own lives. Some of the moaners are pretty irritating. I doubt some of them have paid a penny towards anything for a number of years, living 100% courtesy of the state.
By:
Cannot believe what i am reading on this fred, people are in buildings if fire broke out then they would be dead and the fire service already confirmed that they could not do anything for people above the 12th floor.
Certainly opened my eyes on a few posters on here. |
By:
the same people would be the first calling for blood if something goes wrong.
By:
Yep correct decision taken
By:
will there be a criminal investigation into all these tower blocks, and other buildings and the councils or firms responsible.
By:
There should be , what about other buildings the list of poosibilties is frightening
By:
look I doubt very much that a company is going to fit cladding that does not comply with regulations.
By:
It is looking like green targets were the main priority and somewhere along the line they forget about safety and fire regulations, i would like to know who the experts who were on the committee to approve the cladding upgrade, and what qualifications they had.
By:
they are going to fit the wrong cladding knowing that it will have to be inspected, knowing that itshould fail inspection, knowing that if something goes wrong down the line they could be held responsible for deaths.
That is not something that makes sense. |
By:
I would chain myself to the radiator. I imagine there are insurance problems but as has been said I would take my chances if I had lived there for years. If it's such a crisis why don't they requisition some of the private mansions that are empty.
By:
If you don't sell stuff as "green" these days, you don't sell stuff at all. It's all the buyers on any project care about, the green box must be ticked.
By:
the only way it would be possible would be if it was a mafia or criminal gang involved in these projects, this sort of thing has happened in Italy and America and it needs people on the inside of government and councils to be bribed.
By:
to fit the wrong cladding, its not an easy thing to do. How could it be done ?
By:
SKY WHIPPING THIS ONE UP AS FAST AS THEY CAN GO - like a jockey urging the horse to the winning post
Would the residents thank them if THEY went up like a roman candle?? Put the people back and let them sit there for a few months instead. What a load of whingers. Ps - there is a very very big problems over ANY fire regulations big time. remember Foxy going on about this the other day - he has been proven right |
