Casino politics the quickest way to the poorhouse, that's what happened the Republic 10 years ago.

Was politics at it's worst when McGuiness resigned and put Stormont into turmoil.
Merely an excuse to try to weaken the DUP.

Recent election shows the North is totally polarized in the electorate. DUP 10 seats, SF 7 seats, Independent 1 seat. All middle of the road parties were wiped out in the June election.
Even the geographical spread of the seats is split with the DUP holding Belfast and further North, SF holding all Border counties with Republic and mid rural ulster. Not much common ground between both communities.
People hoped the younger generation would move on and put their differences behind them, but the results show both sides have hardened further the other way, which is a pity.

Both the Tory party and the DUP are in favour of a soft border.
The EU could demand that the ROI have border controls though.

Which is why ROI have stuffed up by committing themselves to the EU. They should have at least shown signs of waivering about staying in the EU before BREXIT negotiations begun. That way EU would be scared to stick up a hard boarder for fear of Ireland exiting too.

Now EU knows they can do anything they want that damages ROI and they will just roll over and take it.... again

NI voted remain, so there is no real appetite for a border from either side as I see it.

Agreed vicki but the EU might take issue with ROI citizens having free movement to the UK (and vice versa of course) but other EU nationals being restricted.
BTW it could be a back door for EU nationals in the future who move to the ROI and get ROI citizens rights.
Tis a minefield when you  think it through.  Grin

Border areas and a couple of Belfast constituencies voted Remain, but other areas, such as Antrim, were solidly Leave.

At least that's how I remember the result. Will try and find the relevant maps in the morning.

I remember the %ages 56% remain and 44% leave.
Exact same as the Scottish indy ref.

They voted Remain despite the DUP's Leave stance.

that backdoor is already being exploited, Aka. It was used by one of the scumbags behind the recent London attack.

Ur map is an exact replica of the Gen Election result more or less, Dup strongholds Leave, the rest Remain.
The irony being Sinn Fein are anti EU also.
Aka as Platini says, that route has been well worn too by Nigerians and Pakistani's Indian's, who get a legal travel visa to the Uk, then get the ferry to Larne and train down to Dublins immigration office, all unchecked and seek asylum.

Gerry Adams met TM in Downing street today to express his concerns about any deal with the DUP.
I would imagine that has delated any announcement.

Listened to Adams after the meeting.
He said that the UK government was in breach of the GFA but then spoke of welcoming any extra cash for NI as long as it went to the Executive and was totally transparent.

^ Yeah, Theresa May must have found that Magic Money Tree !

£1bn to prop up her "strong and stable" government. That money could have gone to improving the NHS, schools and improving the death-trap tower blocks.
