St George, St Davids, St Paddy and St Andrews day - across the UK.

Didn't realise that the Scots already have one more BH than England and Wales, and N Ireland have 2 more!

IS Corbyn said it would be cost neutral as the lost productivity would be matched by increased spending on the day off.

Im thinking of writing to him and suggesting another 200 Bank holidays using that logic.

"Didn't realise that the Scots already have one more BH than England and Wales, and N Ireland have 2 more! "

If that's true I'm not sure how well these are observed. E.g. How many companies in Scotland take St Andrews Day off (which was no doubt created for political reasons)? Banks aren't required to close, and employers don't need to give it as a day off (and AFAIK ignore it). So it's AFAIK a holiday on paper only.

TBH who want's extra days off when the weather is cr*p anyway? How about one for VE day or VJ day when the weather is likely to be nicer.

Honestly what are you going to do with an extra day off on a cold dark wet day on the 30th Nov or a rainy day in april anyway?

Get bladdered and post your favourite oven chip on chit chat. It just costs the NHS money in liver disease.

With personal debt in the UK a growing concern, Corbyn proposes a measure that he thinks would see people  spending even more.

Keep 'em coming Jeremy.

this is the kind of issue that really shows up the so-called "populists" for what they really are - they're not looking to improve the lives of the ordinary man at all they're just privileged capitalists looking to protect and increase their wealth

you've been conned

Money. If you're employed your employer will give you money without your doing anything for it.

But looking a bit further down the road. If you are an employer you'll need to put up your prices to compensate for having to pay people who aren't producing anything and the self employed will need to put up their prices because they need to earn the same amount per annum but now with less actual working days.

Totally agree bix.

So people spending money they dont have is good for the economy, i would of thought the biggest gainers of extra bank holidays would be the companies who have goods to sell.

that's ok then because nearly that much extra will be going to the NHS each week after we leave the EU

4 more Bank Holidays hardly going to be a vote winner, and he badly needs massive support. But he did seem calm and thoughtful on Marr, although priorities all screwed up. One very annoying thing about May, she keeps saying, "let me be absolutely clear" ...... and then proceeds to be anything but !

If you are self employed or on zero hour contracts a Bank holiday is a days wage lost.
