I've just seen a conference where this weasel was attempting to cement his legacy by basically saying how marvellous he has been during his two terms in office. He told brazen lie after brazen lie, and even had the unbelievable nerve to claim "the world is now a safer place than eight years ago!"

WAC! Thank god he will soon be gone, the worst, most duplicitous president ever and that's really saying something.

I've never seen such a pompously self-congratulatory speech than that given by Obama mentioned above. The fact that it was all complete bollocks didn't seem to trouble him at all. America a better place? Yeah, right. The world a safer place? Jeez, the fool must be deaf and blind as well as stupid.

Doesn't really interest me much though as I'm not American but I find it laughable Obama is being criticised for "pompous self-congratulation" given who his replacement is. The phrase "you ain't seen nothing yet" springs to mind.
Report Torquemada December 31, 2016 10:32 AM GMT
Yes I agree with that, A-T. After saying how he wanted to follow Bush's example of a smooth and helpful transition of administrations, Obama now appears intent to do exactly the opposite.

Personally, I'd imagine it's being deliberately held back until Trump comes in. The heads of CIA and others will be waiting to see how he responds and how their relationships with him are before deciding what further information should be shared.

Obama is simply forcing Trump's hand and forcing him into committing to either backing his own agencies or his pal Vlad publicly and showing to the American public whose side he's really on.

Uninsured (health) - down 18 million
Exports - up 22%
un and under-employed rate - down 20%
median household income - up 15%
manufacturing output per worker - up 14%
Dow Jones industrial average - nearly doubled

The only fact you need to know about how great a President Obama has been is that after eight years under him the USA voted to elect Donald Trump.

Remember the hope that accompanied his inauguration, in eight years that became the despair that handed Trump the keys to the White House.

All your cherry-picked stats mean nothing, especially when the US is to all intents and purposes bankrupt. Obama begat Trump, and emboldened the despots of the world with his supine foreign policy.
Report Torquemada December 31, 2016 11:02 AM GMT

The crazy world of the right

Where the responsibility for Trump being elected is laid at the feet of Obama not the Republican Party or the people who voted for him.

Regarding his supine foreign policy, firstly I haven't studied it much but wasn't he initially elected partly on a platform of bringing back the troops from Afghanistan and Iraq as that policy had patently failed for the last decade or thereabouts?

Obama is great reading the autocue but has been pretty much a disaster as president whatever way you look at it.

'yes we can' to no i didnt backtrack barack has been useless.

Ill close guantanamo bay on day one - you take that to the bank. 8 years later still open for business. No more wars im the nobel man of peace before troop surges in afghasnistan - america's longest running war, the constant slaughter with drones his terror tuesdays to quote 'im good at killing people' his shocking miscalculations in the middle east from libya to syria to iraq.

Domestically not much better, he has nearly doubled the national debt adding 10 trillion dollars worth of debt. Labour force participation rates at levels not seen since the 1970s when women were much less represented in the workforce. Wage levels no better than when he came into office. Productive jobs outsourced across the world to be replaced by low paid service jobs. Then there is the disaster of obama care. A president who was said to bind the racial divisions leaves office with the country more racially divided than it has been in decades.

You only need to see what americans think of him over 60% think the country is heading in the wrong direction sometimes the figure got as high as 75%. In elections over the 8 years the democrats have lost over 1000 state or federal positions. To quote Obama who canvessed heavily for clinton in the key states she lost 'its my legacy on the ballot'. Well the people showed what they thought of your legacy.

Washington (CNN): President Barack Obama delivered an impassioned plea to the African-American community Saturday night to help stop Donald Trump, saying he would consider it a "personal insult" to his legacy if black voters didn't turn out for Hillary Clinton.

Addressing the Congressional Black Caucus gala for the last time as president, Obama warned that while his name would not be on the ballot in November, all of the progress that the country has made over the last eight years was on the line.

- Sept 2016

Any speech is given to a wider audience that to the one spoken to directly. Here Obama was telling the whole of America that HIS LEGACY was on the line. He was effectively saying : 'if you approve of my 8 years, vote Clinton'. (Of course he was also being foolishly racist: 'vote as the black man tells you'.)

Nothing could be clearer. America wanted to distance itself from the Obama years. The fact that he lacks the grace to admit that is a disgrace.
