I don't think brexit is or was all about racism. I do think though that a tactic brought up time and again during the xampaign (and before, such as Cameron's "swarm") led some people to believe that other races were inferior, shouldn't be here etc. And for those and others with long held but concealed racist views, the result was seen as a legitimisation if those opinions and emboldened them to proclaim them and to abuse those people they think are inferior or are damaging their own well-being.
Has there been a put up job by those trying to derail brexit. Very possibly though I've seen no evidence of it to be fair. I wouldn't put it past some though. That said, it's pretty clear that a rather nasty and unwelcome by-product of the referendum has been an actual rise in racial hatred. |

Hatred is a very strong word, you see everything in the extreme imo. I think people are finally expressing their dislike of unlimited migration and it's effects, after years of being silenced by liberal lefties calling them racist. I would think very few of these people are racist by normal standards, though the goalposts are being ever widened on that score.
|

By:
I don't think I do. You seem awfully defensive on this. I call it hatred, you call it what you like. We both know what I mean.
I'd love to know what the "normal" standards of racism are. We know there can be a wide range from bravado on an anonymous forum to, well, murder I suppose. If you seriously don't think tgeres been a rise in racist abuse to foreigners in the aftermath of the referendum then you must be in some deluded state of denial. It may not be outright KKK on every street corner but it was very much there. Maybe it needed a couple of pints or the comfort of like minded friends but o it was there. Hopefully the majority have reflected and realised that what they said or did was poor and wouldn't behave the same again. |

Where is PP's runaway train heading? he's in some dream world that everyone will live
peacefully together....that's obviously never going to happen...it's not being racist it's being sensible as was Hungary's referendum today, nip it in the bud early. |

There's a lot of similarities between Nazis & Muslims.
But not normal people in their own countries, trying to look out for the sovereignty of that country, these no gooder's coming in or even living here couldn't give a toss about the country & never will |

That said, it's pretty clear that a rather nasty and unwelcome by-product of the referendum has been an actual rise in racial hatred.
Again disagree that there is any evidence of this other than newspaper articles choosing particluar stories linking it to Brexit or reporting racial incidents reported as evidence of a rise in racial crime without looking at any other factors or people with anecdotal evidence on how they have been treated since. It seems to be the following Any racial crime prior to Brexit = carried out by ignorant racist scum. Racial crime in the build up to Brexit and since= a result of people becoming emboldened to act in a racist manner as a result of Brexit. Has there been a put up job by those trying to derail brexit. Very possibly though I've seen no evidence of it to be fair. I wouldn't put it past some though. Compare and contrast the following articles https://www.theguardian.com/society/2016/sep/28/hate-crime-horrible-spike-brexit-vote-metropolitan-police and https://www.theguardian.com/society/2015/oct/13/reported-hate-crimes-rise-by-almost-a-fifth where we have quotes such as “The increase in recorded hate crime shows that more victims have the confidence to come forward and that the police are improving the way they identify and record hate crimes. We welcome this.” Together with a greater awareness of hate crime, and improved willingness of victims to come forward, this is likely to be a factor in the increase in hate crimes recorded by the police in 2014-15 compared with the previous year.” |

Those are the chief of the met's words not mine. They count the reports in the same way. If there's a spike in June/July this year then they look into it. You may be right. It may well have been down to the number of early summer racist wasps, let's give it five years for a thorough investigation.

Mobo/Ron - my wife's one of those no-gooders. She's foreign, different, maybe a bit scary for you. My kids are half-no-gooders and can be quite scary too. My wife's someone who's been here 16 years. She came here, worked in menial jobs (waitressing etc), got a degree, qualified as an accountant and now wants to be a teacher. She's someone who makes friends easily, can chat with anyone. She's been proud to bring her parents here, to show them how well she's done, to take them to Chester, to the Lake Ditrict, to Hebden Bridge, to her home. During that time she's suffered no -zero -racist abuse. Until this summer. Then it changed. And it changed for her friends too. And her brother, and his teenage daughter.
So laugh away. Quibble about whether it's racial hatred or something "normal". If it helps you pretend this isn't real or happening then good for you. |

No, lets just wait and see how many are actually crimes before we start concluding that the report of a hate crime is the same as a hate crime being committed. After all last year supposedly it was to be welcomed that the reporting of hate crimes was up. |
|
By:
It's to be welcomed that victims are reporting crimes surely. Your post stated there was an increase in 2014 because of this. Maybe so. I haven't studied.
My post was about this summer. Again, keep your head in the sand until you have triple verification and signed confessions to the abuse which may come way, way down the road after the CPS gave investigated them all. Enjoy it down there. |
|
By:
There's obviously a small % that come here, & want to better themselves,
people haven't got a problem with that PP. but they reckon 90% of the people coming are young males, that's a recipe for disaster surely, you won't be integrating these types to a large %...any idiot can work that out |
|
By:
I'm specifically talking about muslims btw - not eastern europeans
|
|
By:
I never stated that. The statistics stated that and as a result the police, Home office and that article decided this wasn't necessarily a negative thing and that there were a number of factors at play here. You and others seem to want to exclude any other factors in a post Brexit rise other than the fact the crime is up.
Look, it is sad what has happened to your wife and any of your friends but unfortunately it sounds like that is clouding your judgement here and preventing you from being objective about the fact that a report of a hate crime incident is very much different to one being committed and the relevant statistics being whether or not there is also an increase in convictions. |

Now I'm just a wet eyed victim unable to see the big picture. Sand in your straw?
Listen, just ignore the met. It's ok. Ignore what you don't want to see. Go on, you'll sleep better. |
|
By:
small % could mean anything , 1% 4% 5% 8% etc
Its obvious the majority don't work, what job could you do where you keep having to pop off to prey - women ain't supposed to work, so how do we actually benefit? what is their main contribution that we should think yeah we really need them coming in , the more the better |
|
By:
PorcupineorPineapple, you are wasting your time with some of the people on this thread. They will continue to bury their heads in the sand. Of course there has been an increase in hate crime this summer. It started in the lead up to the referendum the atmosphere was toxic and after the vote when quite clearly many racists thought they had been given a mandate to abuse foreigners.

What the **** would the MET know? It's not up to them to decide what constitutes the reporting of hate crime it's up to the person making the report or anyone else who is present to decide whether they perceive it as a hate crime. All the MET can says is we received X amount of reports.
Think for yourself for gods sake rather than reading a media article. I wonder whether you jump to the same conclusions after reading articles like this. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/12112024/Violent-crime-jumps-27-in-new-figures.html A leading criminologist said migration patterns were one of the factors in the murder rate rise. |

You moan that personal experience is clouding my judgment and then in your next post say I need to think for myself.
Make your mind up eh. Listen, I get it. You don't want to accept it. We can all see it. You're desperate for it not to be true. It's as clear as day. I don't want to rub your nose in it. But I'm not going to back down from something that is patently true. That is just happening. So, save yourself trawling round your internet history for your confirmation bias articles. It's ok. Don't worry. It'll all be alright poppet. |

By:
Erm.. the link attached doesn't represent my point of view or in anyway form my view. It has been used to present a similar position to the links you have posted whilst questioning whether you would think for yourself when reading the article as it doesn't fit with your mindset. I trust this clarifies your confusion but I am beginning to think that you are just evading questions which may result in you having to deviate from the position you have adopted from the media headlines you have read.

Make your mind up eh. There is a difference between thinking for yourself subjectively and thinking for yourself objectively i.e think for yourself but don't be a ****g idiot. |

Replies: 1448 02 Oct 16 22:37 Small percentage! F@ck off you racist sh!t. I ain't no racist PP, If people come here and abide by British Law im fine with that, but what i find absolutely unacceptable is bringing a religion to the country that mostly only agree with sharia law & have absolutely zero chance of integrating into western ways - people like you calling people like me racist is pathetic, just because you've married some foreigner that come here 16 years ago you think it gives you some right to judge people like me? i could never imagine myself ever calling someone a racist, the people using the word are mostly no good ****s |

By:
Ron you're doing it wrong. Provide some anecdotal evidence how you're bird or your mates have seen this happen since the EU and PP I'm sure will take anything said at face value.

Ron - who I married doesn't inform my decisions. You're a racist because you're ignorant. Completely and totally ignorant. I'm surprised you're arguing the toss to be honest, I figured you'd be quite happy with the badge.
As for me, I could have married someone from New Zealand, Iraq, Paris or Manchester; I'd still recognise you as a racist sh!t for brains. |

Shouldn't we all be calling each other Hitler by now and moving on?

`racists` are in danger of turning out to be the nice people. |
|
By:
By the way, I'll happily retract my accusation once Ron provides evidence of his many years of studying "the Muslims". Proof on how he knows "only a small percentage come here & want to better themselves", how "the majority don't work", they're always "popping off to prey (sic)", how most "only agree with sharia law" etc etc.
Just some evidence of his detailed research into that, y'know and not just some sweeping half-arsed generalisation because of what someone on twitter told him to think. |
|
By:
53% of muslim men in the UK do not work. closer to 80% in Germany. 24% of muslim women work
also found to have the highest disability rates. and the most likely group to not be available for work. they are meant to pray 5 times a day? not sure what percentage want sharia law but the point is it is a siginificant number and it only takes a minority to try and impose a repressive and dangerous regime. |

I'm intolerant to d!ckheads of all skin colours, religions, faiths and football supporters if that helps. If people post clearly racist stuff, then I'm going to call them out on it. Simple as that really.
