The bathroom needs sorting out and Mrs Gin is talking about turning it into a wet room.
I’m not convinced for a couple of reasons:
Cost – after reading various bits around the internet, there seems to be a huge disparity in what people pay to get a wet room fitted anywhere from £3k-£10k+. It seems the sort of thing that you definitely need to get done properly so I’m guessing the cost will be more to the top end.
It’s the main bathroom and contains the loo which is used by visitors (we also have another loo and small shower in the loft room). I think you would have to have some sort of screen anyway in case the water splashed all over (the room is 2.5M x 2.5M). If you are going to have screen you may as well just have a low-level tray and save the cost of fully sealing the room?
had mine done last Oct cost 6k. That was the door widened and rehung to open out, tiled floor to ceiling, xpelair and the non slip flooring done plus the shower and electrics and painted. Mine doesn't have a tray as such, loads of floorboards were removed to accommodate a big moulded fibreglass sloping tray that is then covered with the non slip flooring. If you're not disabled and have to lose your main bathroom I wouldn't bother.

Thanks for replying BB - £6k doesn't sound too bad if it includes everything but the more I think about it, the more I am not sure. Will have to have another chat with the Missus..........

Don't bother, had one put in for my Da and besides the logistical probs we started getting midges all over the place. I was then told the shíte that gets clogged in the 'plug hole' was a breeding ground for the ikkle phuckers. Anyways the Da hated it..
