I can't believe that of our wonderful police force.

They may be quaking in their boots at the thought of facing unarmed men, but they would never stoop that low.

WTF was that kicking stuff all about? The BBC had that interview all day but only decided to show that bit on the 6 o'clock news?? Fecking outrageous if true.

It has to go down as accidental death I suppose.

They did not mean to kill him, but I wonder how many times he was tasered???

r.i.p. he was not a bad footballer.

I didn't realise that waking up one's neighbours in the early hours is a capital offence.

Should be !

Should be done for manslaughter. Eyewitness claims he was tasered 4 or 5 times while on the floor and another says they kicked him while down. Lucky for us  the BBC decided to share the kicking part with as now.

I should wait for the official reports from the coroner

But will the official reports divulge the truth? More likely they give us rubbish about lone wolf faulty tasers imo.

so we're not to trust coroners now?

I agree Yomomma, this could well be a case for manslaughter.

We will have to wait for report from Coroner.

Woman on BBC just said when they tasered him and he fell down they gathered round and gave him a kicking when he was down .

i saw that interview just checking, that is just plain wrong, and a valid point made about police cameras.

One from Ron Atkinson's after dinner set Cool

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/20754134

Did Karren Brady, who was at Birmingham at the time, really ask you if Dalian Atkinson was your son?

Yes she did. We were having a photo shoot before Aston Villa played Manchester United in the League Cup final in 1994. We're having lunch and she's reading the programme. She is going through how good our squad is at Villa and she says: "Oh the number 10, Atkinson, your son's in the team". I hadn't got the heart to tell her.

Ron Atkinson was another racialist like some of these police. He called Marcel Desailly a 'lazy n*****' live on TV'.
By:

When: 15 Aug 16 21:14
I do not think Ron Atkinson was a racist myself

It was a chance remark that would have been common parlance when he was young, but death on TV of course.

It is more serious here, somebody is dead, the officers do have cameras, I do not know what happened, but I would like the truth
to come out

I am sad Dalian Atkinson is dead

“Dalian was shouting about being homeless, he wanted his dad to let him in - but his dad wouldn’t so he was kicking the door. Sad

Didn't it say somewhere Police were swarming the place/area?

Why if it was just someone getting a bit aggressive on drink or drugs?
By:

When: 15 Aug 16 22:07
I think the police were called because people were concerned about his safetyShocked

That was a bit of a mistake, I would like the truth here myself, whatever it is.
By:

When: 15 Aug 16 22:09
I would suspect that Dalian was somewhat out of a control, and was difficult to handle.

That is no excuse for killing someone

Missed the BBC news at 6.
Was the witness to the police kicking him the same person who said he got tasered 4 or 5 times whilst on the ground?
By:
Ron-Russian
When: 15 Aug 16 22:14
why would you need to taser someone more than once or twice?

was he like Dirty Harry with a taser gun Confused
By:

I missed it as well akabula

I don't know if he still had hold of an officer, those tasers are powerful?

Eye witness account below. Either she's lying, exaggerating or is telling the truth. Her account seems pretty concise to me and disturbing. Hopefully we get the truth.

was in a wild rage.

never worked?....what does that mean, he was still alive?....I am not surprised he was in a rage what they were doing to him

no body cameras on PCs?

Her account seems pretty concise to me ...looked like that to hamsterdam

I hope there is an enquiry into this...but I would not guarantee itSad

the first 50,000 volts did not stop him & he shouted it's not
working, a second taser also failed , Ernest 85 said his son then
yelled "i am the messiah"
a third round left him unconscious.

Perhaps dead? Ron

I think the police had a difficult job, a large man, a strong man, not in full control of himself.

But they should have been able to deal with this without killing him!

Call for backup if they needed to?

This is a woeful failure by the police, perhaps more?

I think this needs an enquiry myself.
By:
ebulGery
When: 16 Aug 16 13:33
I do not see why they were tasering him on the ground, once he was down his threat had been much reduced.

Can you taser someone for claiming they are the Messiah?

Atkinson's brother, Kenroy, 53, told The Sun the ex-Premier League star had undergone dialysis for kidney failure and was "not in his right mind".
He said his brother had attacked their 85-year-old father, Ernest, at his home on Monday before police were called to the scene.
"My brother had lost it. He was in a manic state and depressed - out of his mind and ranting. He had a tube in his shoulder for the dialysis and he had ripped it out and was covered in blood," he told the newspaper. He got dad by the throat and said he was going to kill him. He told dad he had already killed me, our brother Paul and sister Elaine and he had come for him. He was not in his right mind.

If I was in the situation the father was in, I would expect the police to protect MY life even at the cost of the aggressors life. I happen to know that tasers are sometimes innefective on someone who is heavily built or hyped up.

Fair enough, I don't see the police needed to kill him myself?
His father was in no immediate danger, as I understand it?

Or was he on the ground trying to kill his father, then I might understand, the police had to intercede.
