I'm not going to cast any aspersions about possible use of stimulants or whatever. Because I just don't know what goes on, tbh. What I do know is that World record breaking performances used to thrill and excite me. Now they don't, and haven't done for many years now. Maybe it's just my age, but deep down, I just don't believe in it anymore.

Van Niekerk sets 400m world record
Athletics

Wayde van Niekerk runs 43.03 in the 400m to win gold and break Michael Johnson's 17 year old world record.

He's got the hots for Thiam Love

This is what I mean, I'd swap 15 GB golds in silly events for a singular 100 meter gold.

GB third in the medals? where's the USSR ?
bogus olympics. It's been bogus since 1980.
All politics now - don't watch propaganda
when I don't have to?
See the news and athletes thanking all their
mentors and fans etc.
same speech made by cyclist Lance Armstrong.
Look at athletes in same disciplines in 1972.
check what they look like now.
contrast and compare?
Pietro Mennea vs a sprinter today?
google pietro Mennea, he was a top sprinter.
that's what a sprinter looked like pre drugs.

What a performance by Wayde van Niekerk. He seemed to run a perfect race - an evenly run 400m -  he was behind after the first 100m. Lane 8 is theoretically the fastest lane - as the bend is the least sharp.

He looks like a real outlier Wink - can run sub 10 sub 20 too.

I'm not big on sports day type stuff like egg and spoon and all that.
But even I was surprised to hear of the continued successes of team GB and their standings in the medal chart.

You can bet following recess the Palace of Westminster will be spreading it on thick using every opportunity to cash in off the back of it and to use the successes as a yardstick to implement a toughening of the environment with which they determine ideology.

anyone got a good link for schedules and entries that works well on a desktop computer. the official site, BBC and Google are all "optimised for mobiles" and are a nightmare on a desktop.

just watched van niekerk's 400 and interview after
used to absolutely love track and field but as others have posted
have become inured to it and a sceptic
HOWEVER think this guy is kosher
he's just a slim guy who happens to be very fast
for his frame
which over 400 is no disadvantage
do not have to be as bulky and powerful as over 100 and 200(in general)
bit of a godsquadder by the sound of it
but if that's his bag
fair play to him
comes across as a really humble,genuine,lovely guy..respect dude..awesome run

shame he isn't entered in the 200m. wouldn't beat Bolt but would make it interesting

Wayde van Niekerk won the 400m in lane 8 - just like Eric Liddell did in 1924. Chariots of Fire alright.

Liddell too won with a new world record - 47.6. That's  about 3.5 seconds slower but then it was 92 years ago.

And like Liddell, a man of strong religious faith.

Liddell wouldn't have been impressed by van Niekerk racing on a Sunday.

Hamsterdam, when van Niekerk won the World Championship last year, he was ahead of Johnson's WR splits at 100, 200 & 300m. His 2nd split was 9.9, so 9.8 no Beamonesque leap. If you're going to question any split, it should probably be the last 100, since he didn't tie up as much this time, obviously. Awesome performance.

Now, is he cheating? Fk knows!

Womens hammer world record broken. Steeplechase runner should have broken the world record as well but she wasn't looking at the clock and jogged in at the finish.
