Going by the name of the op.   Did you not have much success in trying to impregnate yourself?

Lot of people having them into their 40s these days ,dont think its the greatest Idea tbh

I'm 40 and don't have any kids. I'm thinking of getting a vasectomy to make absolutely sure.

It's a bit of a dilemma because I'm comparing two very small numbers: Chance of accidentally impregnating someone despite being relatively careful * not being able to persuade her to have an abortion vs. Chance of suddenly wanting a child despite the fact that the idea currently fills me with horror and I've never wanted one at any point in my life to date.

Then I need to weight the two numbers by comparing how horrible it would be to find out now that I was going to be a father (Jesus that would be extremely horrible) vs. how horrible it would be to want a child and not be able to have one because I'd put myself under the knife of my own free will (Jesus I guess that would be extremely horrible too).

Then I start thinking about scalpels and just put the decision off.

49, no kids, coaxed my first wife not to have any as I really didn't want them. Have now inherited the two best stepsons in the world and it has made me think maybe I was wrong. Happy with my lot though.

I also wouldn't mind inheriting children either. Its taken many years but i feel that i now know and understand myself and that understanding tells me that I would be a very good father.

I've 2 kids and a stepson and I wouldn't change them for the World but would you really want to bring a kid onto the planet with the state it's in? I'm a big advocate of humans are the problem and population is ruining it.

^ If you had 2 kids it would make no difference to the planet.....but if you don't then you are possibly ending the future lives of 100s or 1000s of your descendants ....could go to a sperm bank if you do not fancy finding the right woman. (I am assuming your partner does not want or cannot have any more children)

Patra : have some kids, your whole life changes for the better....your life then seems to have more purpose and you feel much more grounded.

A friend of mine married a much younger woman when in his fifties, his second wife.
He's now dying of cancer and their kids haven't left school yet Sad
Have your kids while you are young enough to see them fly the nest.

Oh she will Leopard but it's a difficult time for them. Kids can lose their dad at any age I know but it's more likely when he's over seventy than when he's forty.

Kids give you a direction or fill a gap, without them you will do want you want.

Not sure which is the best path, skint punters would wish on marriage, winnings punters would long to be single.

I love my kids with a passion.

Without her knowing my daughter is sitting opposite me talking to me to her mates on Facetime or whatever while I'm here on Chit Chat and Youtube. It's a different way to love kids nowadays but she knows and I know.

I wouldn't change it, ever. My beautiful daughter who I protected and nourished as a child has become a beautiful woman and graduated last week. She makes me proud to be alive but so does me Son and Stepson.

was going to write something similar Ovalman but think you've summed it up nicely. it's a cliche, but it's the best thing you could ever do if you get the chance.

You understand doant that any parent wouldn't. You'd rip you own heart out to give blood to your children.

Leopard put a link to the Olympics that I'd love to watch but my daughter is now playing XBox because she has me wrapped around her finger. She's 21 FFS but she wins every time.

Respects my no's when they come but they are rarer than a hens tooth atm.

mine's only six Ovalman. Drove miles to a beach in West Sussex today just me and her for the day. The look on her face as she splashed in the surf was priceless. Better than any gambling sht.

I'm 48 but they are my reason to live.

I love talking football with my stepson who knows better than me. Liverpool shiite and a tattoo to prove. His Grandad live's there but it's foreign football to me.

My daughter, the graduate who is now a qualified teacher. I wish she'd teach me lol

And my youngest who teaches me to program miserably, I wish I could party like him as he's with a different bird every week.

I said above why would anyone want a kid but I've just gave 3 reasons to counteract it.
