Some real beauties Vel, thanks for posting them.
I might have a go at copying one or two in watercolour over Christmas.

Pleasing caricatures Zorro. Is the first one anyone in particular? Looks like a Rugby league forward.

Is that detailed drawing of the sad woman another by Repin Vel? It's lovingly executed so possibly a relative. Wish I could draw like that.

It's a MURIAL...! Grin
By:
Foinavon
When: 17 Dec 16 10:55
It's not a proper murial, proper murials have three mallards flying up the wall.

Mrs. Foin has a calypso version of "What a friend we have in Jesus" but I couldn't find it on YouTube.
Mahalia was one of the great Gospel singers and civil rights activists and deserves to be remembered.

colourful mural,
but those hands in the middle look distorted even in that perspective?
is there a straight on view.

Here are some more images Zorro

I think you are right. Her right hand appears twisted in an unnatural position, she could never be a slip fielder like that. The face is the (ahem) "saving grace" and very attractively done. Apparently, she left money towards children's education so it's a fitting tribute.

it looks like it was done from imagination, maybe a face photo as reference, a portrait of a real person. probably no preparatory drawings first.

Her other paintings and sculptures look well observed so I think this must have been deliberate. Perhaps it's intended to be viewed as anamorphic art as one approaches close to the wall from the right as seen in Vel's photo.
The extended hands, palms upwards, is seen in a lot of Christian art but not sure what it's supposed to mean and don't want to make something up to try and explain it.

Was thinking about MARTIN KIPPENBERGER the other day...only one tutor had heard of him back in the day...his paintings sold for less than £10,000 back then...his SELF PORTRAIT WEARING UNDERPANTS sold for $22,500,000 a while back.

Self portrait wearing underpants? He must have been a chit-chatter Mischief

He strayed into the Berlin anarcho-punk squatter zone wearing a suit and tie...was attacked by JENNY THE RAT, a punk girl who always had a rat on her shoulder...Jenny attacked Kippy and he was beaten badly about the face...the rat was killed during the fight.

KIPPENBERGER was swathed in head bandages and blood and produced a poster of this image, and called his exhibition, DIALOGUE WITH YOUTH.

Kippenberger poster is pending approval...think this is another Russian one...in the meantime...
By:

When: 26 Dec 16 13:26
Also back in the day, Kippenberger bought a Gerhard Richter painting - worth about £10 million now - and turned it into a coffee table.

The girl portrait is quite sweet. Why the blue splurge?

I like the blue splurge. Is it the sky?
By:
Velasquez
When: 26 Dec 16 16:32
It's probably a study for a painting and he's got blue to hand, just to separate the face from the background.
