It has had roughly about twenty posts in about five months! That is posts, not threads even. I used to sometimes enjoy the poker forum and is was the source of good advice. I would like some advice again. There are several posters on chit chat who, like me, play poker and used to post on the poker forum. I will probably at some stage post poker threads on here, but it would be nice if it was renamed, if chit chatters agree.|

If it says there was 1 person viewing the poker forum then I'd guess that would've been you!!
I used to read the poker forum a lot, I've never been on politics though and doubt I ever will. |

Ooops, kenbo you are probably right
![]() Would you post on poker threads on chit chat? |
|
By:
I might not post on poker threads on here, but I'd definitely be interested in reading them.
I like to watch the game, but I'm hopeless at playing it. |
|
By:
I like watching poker on tv sometimes, although it is difficult at the moment as I don't have a tv! Although I suppose I could find something on youtube. Although the last time I watched it on my ex boyfriend's tv I probably bored him to tears with my comments
I think there could be a few poker threads on here even if it wasn't renamed if all the poker players joined in. |

how do the "top players" become/stay "top players?
after all poker is a game of chance,so im thinking everyone has the same chance, you win some you lose some, surely it should all even up |

There is a lot of luck involved in poker, but as aggression and maths ability comes into it it goes towards pros staying pros.
However, I always take a person being called a top player with a pinch of salt. This description could have come about because of only one huge tourney where perhaps he got lucky. I had a really good night for me a couple of weeks ago, but it was just luck as I drew four of a kind twice! I must add that I play omaha poker that involves four cards so to get four of a kind is not unusual. I wish more people played omaha as I think poker could maybe lose its seedy connection with a more involved game which I think rewards skill more than holdem. I only play for small stakes. |

I'm a profitable player Terry but mostly low stakes. I withdrew mid 4 figures last year so it's decent pocket money.
I've a blog trying to turn zero into $1,000 in 2016 (failing miserably.) http://www.freerollhq.co.uk I think it's achievable, I've won $71 so far but I think I can still make it. I've maybe some ulterior motives with that blog. I've affiliated myself to the sites I play on and hopefully when I achieve it get sign ups through me but I want to prove to the beginner that it can be done. Re. your question on luck. I love a great quote I found on Reddit: "Luck will decide your day, skill will decide your year" I've tackled the skill over one hand question - poker is a game of luck over one hand. I plan on tacking luck over one game, 100 games and a life time of games. Trust me, Poker is a game of skill (Look at my graph on my latest blog post http://www.freerollhq.co.uk/pokerstars-small-brag/ |

Ovalman, I loved your quote. I must remember it when times get tough!
Where do you mainly play? |
|
By:
Terrible idea.
|
|
By:
All I-Poker sites, Boyle and Titan as I'm an affiliate but Betfair, Paddy Power, Boyle, William Hill ect. anywhere I can fin a decent freeroll to complete my challenge TBH
![]() I play on Stars but very little, there is rarely an overlay and the site is full of decent players. |

For me Crags?
I love blogging and I tried blogging on here but one of my posts was removed after I spent ages on it. My blog was in support of Betfair and to support the site but they found something they didn't like and my post was wiped. You can check Chit Chat blogs if you want. Stars done the same to me so I stopped posting on Pokerschoolonline. It costs me money for my own site but I can say what I want. If I can break even I'd be happy but that's not the point for my first year. I want to prove it can be done and I will do it. My site sucks BTW, I'm not a web designer and have very little money to put into it but I'm determined I will succeed. |

AKA "variance" and why they talk about "grinding". Stars is where it's at for MTT. Little doubt about that. |
|
By:
Value lies elsewhere doant, Stars rocks for software, customer support and game selection but it's full of decent players. I've stated before, you don't win money by being brilliant, you win money by other peoples mistakes. Play players who know less than you or make more mistakes than you. Game selection is the single most important thing you can do.

No mate, I meant about merging the forums being a terrible idea.

I am with you, Ovalman, regarding pokerstars - there are too many skilled players
![]() However, I play there because they have the widest selection of omaha games and with rebate it makes sense to play on the same site. However, I have played Ipoker including William Hill,Betfair of course ( grovel, grovel ), PartyPoker and will probably go back to them at some stage because the games change. I have also a problem with my computer as it does not let me load Party Poker at the moment. It is a coincidence you talking about freerolls because I usually don't play them because they are mainly holdem but I have qualified for about £60000 worth of freerolls tomorrow and might play them. |

you don't have to educate me sir. I've won quite a few quids through MTT's on stars. "fish&chippy" if you wanna look me up on scope. Can totally understand why you seek out value.

I wish other forumites would say their Pokerstars or other poker site names, it would be really 'cool' to play against someone on here!

what's yours annie? so i know not to mess with you.

Sorry dont win, I get so much grief on this forum I do not want any of my abusers knowing it. But you have always been kind to me.
I have looked you up on Sharkscope , respect ![]() |

Apologies, I'm speaking as I speak through my blog but I'm passionate about the game and as I said my objectives are to get people in the game and sign up through me.
I've only a few k profit on Stars but am making most of my money on I-Poker, I find game selection is most important and I-Poker is overly soft. I'm mainly a sng player but recently hit a brick wall. I'm working with ICM software to improve but still losing to variance or bad play, sometimes it's hard to improve. |
|
By:
i get that. I'm gonna have to watch my abusive language now on Stars! (kidding obviously)
|
|
By:
I'd love to play more sngs, Ovalman, but the choice for omaha players is good but not what I like. Lots of no limit ohama sngs but I do not like the all in business. It is a cr@p shoot normally.
I used to play william hill and betfair omaha, Ipoker, but it has since changed the game structure. |

dontwinWhen I first started playing poker I was horrified at the abuse on the sites among players. Although due to being on the horseracing and chit chat forums etc I was not as shocked as I could have been ![]() When players post ' I hope you get cancer and die' I think what on earth am I doing playing poker with such vermin. I must admit due to the betfair forums and poker my view of men has gone downhill I was lucky to meet such nice men in my young life, I now think! |

there's a hell of a lot of trash talk on stars. crags, i've never had one private message on here in 12 years. i think i'm missing a trick

I must have been really bored, reading my last post again

Do try online, terry, it is good fun and you can play for pennies for hours while you are learning the online ropes.
When I first started I was playing 7p sngs on betfair and I enjoyed it. You get lots of promotions, freerolls etc on Pokerstars and other sites. Although I am not a lover of freerolls because there are thousands playing, but some are good value, like the one I am playing now for $20000 prize money. There is another in about an hour for $30000, all for free to regular players. You also get a rebate on the fees, so if you break even at the poker itself you would end up in the red because of the rebates. Do try it ![]() |

By:
online you don't see other players expressions ,that's very important as we know in poker,
guess im just an old fashioned boy |
|
By:
You can sit at the table in your pants - where as you can't do
this face to face |

There's a book out there, by Lee Jones, called 'Winning Low-Limit Holdem' - This may not be your game (I prefer No Limit Tournaments) but it gives you all the basics you will need. I picked it up for around £3.00 and that book alone turned a £4k loss into a £10k profit online.
It's very easy to read and teaches you what cards to call with in or out of position. If you can get these basics under your belt you will definitely improve and then adjust your game accordingly. The best bluff I ever done was on the button (the best chair) where I said to a friend "no matter what I hit I'm going to treat it as AA" I hit 23 (I kid you not) and a pre-flop call, followed by a raise and so I re-raise to two callers. The flop gave me nothing, the first player checked, the raise bet (decent bet too) and I raised again. The first player dumped and the second player just called. Next round he checked and I knew he was concerned. I pushed in a big bet and after some consideration he let it go. I don't make a habit of doing this but sometimes you can win hands with nothing once you get the confidence to really play and you learn the type of players you're playing against. In that hand the table were full of tight players so they are easy to bluff, however; be warned, if a perceived tight player starts pushing his money in then get the feck out of there cos the odds are you are going to lose! If you are going to get into the game in a heavy way then books I recommend are 'Play Poker Like The Pro's' (Phil Hellmuth) and you must definitely read Harrington on Hold'em's books. I'm not a pro but I'm showing a decent profit online and 52.1% ROI (return on investment) playing live (I keep full records of my live play). I hope this helps with some of you starting out in the game. Good luck! |

I'm great at poker. Especially strip poker. Whenever I play I'm always the first one naked. The nuns seem to like it but it is habit forming.

I'm even better when they've dealt out the cards.

Bare facts are that 2/3rds of all poker players lose online and 1/3rd win (Sharkscope stats). Poker is a long term game of skill and not luck.
The majority of gambling sites restrict or ban profitable players but not poker sites. Poker is just like the Betfair exchange where they take a cut of the winnings. You don't get punished for winning at poker. Poker players make money by offering unfair odds, forcing opponents into making mistakes or a combination of the 2. It can be a game of maths but a game of reason. It's an easy game to learn but can be so difficult, I earn something new most weeks or plug a leak or try something different. A great quote by Mike Sextant "It take a minute to learn but a lifetime to master" |
