Alcohol consumption

Werbeniuk was noted for the copious amounts of alcohol he consumed before and during matches – at least six pints before a match and then one pint for each frame. In total, he drank between 40 and 50 pints of lager per day.[2][4] Doctors advised Werbeniuk to drink alcohol to counteract a familial benign essential tremor.[5] Later in his career he also took propranolol, a beta blocker, to cope with the effects of his alcohol consumption on his heart.[6]

Some of Werbeniuk's most famous feats of drinking include: 76 cans of lager during a game with John Spencer in Australia in the 1970s;[2] 43 pints of lager in a snooker match/drinking contest against Scotsman Eddie Sinclair in which, after Sinclair had passed out following his 42nd pint, Werbeniuk was reported to say "I'm away to the bar now for a proper drink";[7] 28 pints of lager and 16 whiskies over the course of 11 frames during a match against Nigel Bond, in January 1990 – after which Werbeniuk then consumed an entire bottle of Scotch to "drown his sorrows" after losing the match.[2]

Eddie Sinclair. I was playing in a league match in the Q club Charring x Glasgow.
Watched him play another guy who he was giving a start to take a right few quid off him.
The other guy seemed well known but can't remember his full name Matt was his first name.

The reason I looked him up was because HIGNFY mentioned him when talking about Joe Johnson winning in 1986: The quote being:

‘Now this is how bad I was. In 1985, the year before I won, I went to the Crucible for the World Championship and drew Bill Werbeniuk in the first round. Bill had barely won a match all year and he liked a drink, did Bill.

‘Before our game I saw him in the bar and I asked the lady at the counter how many he’s had. Eight pints. I’m thinking to myself, “Oh lovely”. On top of his eight pints, he had a pint for every frame we played, which turned out to be 18. By the end he had drunk 26 pints and he only went and won 10-8. Like I said, that’s how bad I was.’

If you're a snooker guy I found the full article here:

I'll give that a look later.
Played quite a bit JC. Lots of breaks in the 40s and 50s biggest was 87 but didn't have enough free time to improve on that.
Lost interest when I had to resort to glasses.

87 is impressive aka.

However I beat a bloke who defeated a world champion several times.

I was receiving 49 start, however, but no mean feat.

Couldn't get the hang of that. The bloke I beat was in the annual Christmas handicap tourny at work.He turned over Joe Johnson regularly in the Bradford WMC league.

2 gallons = .. 16 pints? Depends over how long a time. But 5% lager... he might've been on 4%.

I normally drink 5% lager so .. 4/5 * 16 = 12.8 5% pints.. call it 13.
I could do 16 pints of 4% over a day, but I'd be pretty s**t at snooker!

I don't drink every day or anything like every day, but when I drink more often I notice my tolerance does go up and up, it's not a myth. So if you were drinking every day, and you're overweight anyway, I suppose you can just drink more and more?

I don't like weak beer anymore, it just seems like you spend more time going to the toilet than enjoying yourself.

I must admit though, I went off snooker when Hendry started winning everything.

It is like with formula 1 when lewis hamilton won all those races, it gets boring.  Plus I could never warm to him as a person either.  Can't stand those diamond studs in his ears, pansy
