Downing Street has said David Cameron, his wife and children do not benefit from offshore funds after questions about his family's tax affairs.

How would he answer a question if asked about them ever having benefitted directly (or indirectly) from offshore funds?

Maybe it was a job but ex-high ranking politicians have banks and other organisations falling over themselves to offer them directorships which amounts to little more than having their name printed on the letterhead and turning up for the odd meeting for a six or even seven-figure salary.

Then there's the after dinner speaking circuit - he'll be able to make a Premier League footballer's wage from that alone.

Always wondered how Mandelson went from having to borrow 370k from his mate Geoffrey Robinson to buy a house in 2004,
to buying one for 7.6 million 7 years later. And all from a 140k a year ministerial job as business minister!
Perhaps he won it all on the horses.

It's the insistence that they have done nothing illegal that gets me - as if legality is the only benchmark against which these actions are measured.

Bit of a bugger when it's them too that decide what constitutes illegality.

Cameron has a very staged persona that only assisting in him and his type coming across as mendacious.

Dave thinks its perfectly fine to have offshore tax avoidance schemes. He thinks its morally fine and he and his family have obviously benefited from the in the past

which is why he avoids any mention of past and talks about now and future

Not if you are creating the legal framework in the first place, taking money away from the neediest members of society, holding you and your fellow Parliamentarians to some notional higher ethical standards and claiming 'we are all in this together'

Prime Minister David Cameron today branded comedian Jimmy Carr "morally wrong" for seeking to avoid taxes.

Media reports of Carr's tax arrangements suggest he is undertaking "straightforward tax avoidance", said the Prime Minister.

And he said it was unfair on the people who pay to watch the comic perform that he is not paying his taxes in the same way that they do.

Speaking to ITV News during a round of TV interviews during his trip to Mexico, the PM said: "I think some of these schemes - and I think particularly of the Jimmy Carr scheme - I have had time to read about and I just think this is completely wrong.

"People work hard, they pay their taxes, they save up to go to one of his shows. They buy the tickets. He is taking the money from those tickets and he, as far as I can see, is putting all of that into some very dodgy tax avoiding schemes.

"That is wrong. There is nothing wrong with people planning their tax affairs to invest in their pension and plan for their retirement - that sort of tax management is fine.

"But some of these schemes we have seen are quite frankly morally wrong.

"The Government is acting by looking at a general anti-avoidance law but we do need to make progress on this.

"It is not fair on hard working people who do the right thing and pay their taxes to see these sorts of scams taking place."

i think dave's mate gary barlow also used this type of scheme but wasnt criticised by dave when this was revealed. mind you he's a tory supporter so is entitled to have his tax affairs remain private Laugh

i saw a documentary about the cameron family's tax arrangements a few years ago. i think that the money was moved back from panama to make it look straighter. he is choosing his words very carefully, obviously for a reason.

Tory types who preach 'personal responsibility' need the government to take them by the hand and guide them through every aspect of their financial affairs by the means of setting laws to cover every single possible scenario?

That's where morals should kick in.

he has not denied he has benefitted in the past from self proclaimed 'morally wrong schemes'

he is as transparent as a brick wall, he just needs to say he and family have never benefited from these offshore avoidance schemes, past, present, future.

he doesnt say past, just present and future. Anyone with a brain cell can see why

Are such schemes immoral, no they can never be seen as immoral. But they may be illegal or legal. That is for the English parliament to decide.

I doubt when DC,s old man was a director of said fund in 1983 and the PM was 16 he would have known what his old man was up to .

The family have had dosh for years and been stockbrokers ,it does not mean by association DC is a bad egg ,but thats exactly what the left are implying .They really are a desperate bunch with pretty much fck all to offer the world would be a fair and logical assumption to make.

Massive humungus  story and they are like a dog with a bone over a 20m fund ,which the now deceased,s PM,s father was one of 5 directors of ,and its not even established if he even had any money in the fund .

Theres a big story in all this and it aint DC,S dead father imo .
