I'm sorry but a blanket anti-Islam, Trump-postulated ban in allowing Muslims into the UK is impractical, illegal and counter-productive, much as many would wish it were not so.

It would severely compromise industries such as Defence Engineering, Horse Racing and petro-chemicals to name three but more importantly I doubt it would have very little effect in making us any more safe

Knee-jerk reactions are never any kind of answer to deep-seated and fundamental problems we have in both this country and Europe at large.

That is not the same as not adopting a more pragmatic and pro-active approach to border control, the deportation of radical hate-preachers, generating a worldwide political and diplomatic alliance against ISIS, involving Russia and former Eastern bloc nations - and voting 'Leave' in the forthcoming EU referendum

It would not be illegal or impractical to ban  Muslims or the Muslim religion from England.
For 500 years English law is what the English parliament says is the law.

Okay lfc let's take that at face value.

How long to draw up primary legislation carrying full cross party support to that effect?

How long / how much to recruit extra police / security forces to implement it and the prisons to accommodate these new criminals.

How long to bolster International support for this position and to negotiate repatriation treaties with nations if we don't imprison 'them' in the UK and do 'send them back'

How do you identify a Muslim? ('Big bushy beard' is it? Well that's Brian Blessed fooked as well as a load of trendy young white blokes I saw with this ghastly face-fungus at Cheltenham last week!)

I prefer to deal with practicalities and what is achievable with the situation as it is, not how some would like it to be

You must make a start.

First thing you do is state you are taking in no more migrants from Greece.
Second you stop your navy acting as people smugglers.
Thirdly you start to patrol your borders.

Fourthly, we kindly remind our visitors that we are British and live by Christian values and that mosques popping up like mushrooms will no longer be tolerated.

cross party support is unlikely, it would require a radical modernist party to bring through legislation and with majority support.

extra police would not be required, Saudi Arabia allows christians to enter and work but only as foreign and temporary workers
It does not allow them to practice their faith openly. Items belonging to other faiths than islam are prohibited

There are no official churches of any denomination currently in saudi.
The government does not allow non muslim clerics to enter the country for religious services

The percentage of saudi arabian citizens who are christians is officially zero.
They have not had to seek international support for this situation.

And that would take how long to introduce?

There would be, quite rightly, mass civil unrest if you literally tried to return Britain to the 16th century - and yes, I do realise I am equating Saudi Arabia's religious practises to those of our own medieval times.

It really does get us nowhere other than venting spleen - but I agree with you, hard-headed and potentially unpopular decisions need to be made quickly.

How is controlling who comes into your country mean returning Britain to the 16 th century ?

Stopping new Jihadists from coming in is a start.

Practical, immediately actionable common sense:

'Quilliam stands in solidarity with Belgium and our partners in Europe following the devastating attacks in Brussels this morning which has seen the death of at least 34 people and many more injured. The multiple attacks in the regions of Zaventem and Maelbeek seems to be in line with recent attacks in Paris where multiple targets were attacked simultaneously.

Like Quilliam, security services across Europe and the Middle East have predicted such coordinated multi-casualty attacks in recent years and the sad reality is that there are likely be more. The priority now is to care for victims, support their families, catch the perpetrators, and prevent reprisal or copycat attacks and not allow fears to affect our strategic decision and domestic voting patterns.

Quilliam is concerned that radical cells in Belgium possesses a bomb making capability of this level and access to automatic rifles. Similar to jihadists in Paris, the Brussels attackers have relied on support from a wider network of operatives to supply bomb making materials, logistics, reconnaissance and possibly a level of security training.

Unravelling this wider network will be key in reducing its operational security, disbanding breeding grounds for continued radicalisation to violence, identifying dangerous individuals, offsetting a continued barrage of attacks, and allowing Belgium to recover and grow strong again.

For a full spectrum counter terrorism response, we must look to the future and examine the ideological underpinnings of these radical cells within our communities. Families and local communities providing organic resilience to local extremism is the best way to dismantle the threat.

The solution starts at home.

Quilliam Managing Director Haras Rafiq says:

“Quilliam is partnering to launch a new initiative, FATE or Families Against Terrorism and Extremism, to empower families to intervene on behalf of at risk individuals — to guide them down a better path and offset tragedies like the one we saw today in Brussels.

By bringing together families and community partners at the grassroots level, we can provide a more comprehensive solution to preventing these attacks earlier and help vulnerable people find positive, productive outlets within a free society. Family members have some of the most powerful influence over young people, and we need to band together to support one another. “ '

You can tell that some kind of degree of control or lockdown has been brought to bear on proceedings when you see Detective Chief Inspector Kay arriving at the crime scene, ready to be briefed by the hapless Constable left to glean what facts he could.

It's not quite as good as a highly competent Dr Nikki Anderson arriving a a 'Silent Witness' corpse fest,  but still kind of reassuring, even though you know deep down you'll have to listen to any number of her inanities.

I'd love to know what the Great Woman's Top Three 'Crisis Reporting' gigs were. A rich seam to choose from, but personally I'd go for :

1. The Raoul Moat Crisis (when she would casually refer to him as 'Raoul' as if they were old school pals or even bezzy buddies)

2.  This absolute humdinger that hit the bullseye.

3. The 2011 Swansea Mining Disaster (when I'm convinced the media were desperate to break the news to anyone that one of their loved ones had died)

As ever, let's all hope that a few spare pairs also made it to Brussels.

Mmmm reminds me of a time watching a program on Ch4 ? "HOMELAND"
So this American CIA hit man has been given the details and address of a Mussie Terrorist Bomb Maker....so he breaks into the bastards flat ...waits for the Mussie bomb maker to arrive home....whacks the Mussie over the head and knocks him out.
The Mussie bomb maker was going to bomb a local Christian Girls school.
So he then ties him to a chair and gaffer tapes his gob up....he (CIA hit man) ...then finds the bomb makers hidden stash of bomb making materials and makes up the bomb in front of him.
The Mussie now realising whats going on ...wriggles like phuck cos he knows he's going to be blown to bits with his
own bomb !
Bomb now completed timed to go off a few minutes after the CIA hit man leaves the Mussie Flat.
CIA hit man leaves the Flat...and from memory tells Mussie as he leaves - enjoy your 72 Virgins ...
KA....BOOM Mussie bastard blown to bits.....LaughLaugh
Now that' the way to do it MI5, MI6 take note !

Federica Mogherini like a sniveling mess at a press conference this morning breaking down and having to leave the stage. Spineless self pitying self serving filth.

this is part of a speech she made last summer....................................................

"The idea of a clash between Islam and “the West” – a word in which everything is put together and confused – has misled our policies and our narratives. Islam holds a place in our Western societies. Islam belongs in Europe. It holds a place in Europe's history, in our culture, in our food and – what matters most – in Europe's present and future."
"Some people are now trying to convince us that a Muslim cannot be a good European citizen, that more Muslims in Europe will be the end of Europe. These people are not just mistaken about Muslims: these people are mistaken about Europe, they have no clue what Europe and the European identity are."
