Another legend gone. Always enjoyed his Eurovision commentary, such dry wit.
There was a golden age for TV around the 70's an 80's when we only had 4 channels. I wonder will the kids of today be having these same threads about the Kardashians, Justin Beiber etc. |

RIP but now a day for avoiding the news as all we'll get for the remainder of the day is the various news agencies falling over each other with a queue of still alive celebrities having the opportunity to offer 'sincere' rent a quotes, reminding us they are still very much alive and available to present Children in Need etc.

loved his radio 2 morning show in the early days with the racing preview and wogans winner
very witty and clever man |

I went off him when I heard about his fee from the BBC for presenting Children in Need.
Surely a genuine person would have donated it to the fund? |

I cant think of a bigger loss from the 'off the telly/radio' category than the death of Wogan. (bigger than Parkie and Bruce by quite a way imo)
RIP |

A wonderful dry wit, never better than when hosting Eurovision song contest.
Shame his legacy is tarnished by banking large cheques for presenting Children in Need. Whilst the multi millionaire implored the owrking class to dig deep he was lining his pockets. And as you can't take it with you when you go was it really worth it? |

The epitaph of almost every celebrity that ever was, can be expressed on their headstone as such: ''I did it for the money folks'' |

yes maybe he did trilby

I remember him being challenged over his fee for CiN, and he replied angrily that he was simply being paid for his services by the BBC.
It was just another job to him. |

He was a bit of a knob, imo, but he's not here anymore - so good luck to him.

Stayed schtum on what he knew about Saville and others at the BBC, saw him getting quite angry once when the questions were put to him.

Veteran TV and radio legend Sir Terry Wogan has spoken of his hatred of Jimmy Savile and how his crimes were an open secret at the BBC. The 75-year-old broadcaster has told of how he despised Savile and how his horrific legacy of child abuse has “poisoned” the BBC. He said: “He always struck me as creepy. I’ve talked to people and not one of them has said: 'I really liked him.’" The Children in Need host recalled a celebrity lunch with journalists revealing that it was common knowledge in the industry what Savile was up to. “I was sitting at a table having lunch and Savile was sitting one up from me, and also up from me was Jean Rook (the legendary columnist) “And Jimmy Savile got up to go to the loo, and she looked across at me and said: ‘When are they going to expose him?’ And I said ‘that’s your job.’ And nobody ever did, even though everyone had heard the rumours. “This whole Savile thing has poisoned everything.” |

A very nice man. Rest In Peace.
Only death stopped him talking. |

Who were the real children in need back then ? And nothing was done. Not blaming Tel and others but it's all very unsavory,
Yes RIP, he was a good egg. |

Nice tribute from Peter Deal on Sporting Life website
" Prominent racehorse owner Peter Deal has paid tribute to his close friend Sir Terry Wogan after his death from cancer at the age of 77. Deal, who owned 1997 Champion Hurdle winner Make A Stand, regularly attended race meetings with the Limerick-born broadcaster and even named a Nicky Henderson-trained horse in his honour. Sir Terry, who died after "a short but brave battle with cancer" and was known for his velvety voice on radio and television, was one of the UK and Ireland's best known stars. He had a keen interest in racing, owning horses himself with Henderson and fellow Lambourn handler Barry Hills. Deal said: "Sir Terry didn't actually own the horse, Wogan, but I decided to name him after him as he is by Presenting out of a mare called Fall About, who is by Comedy Star. Sir Terry liked the linkage. "He followed the horse regularly and always showed an interest. He loved his racing and was an absolute joy as a companion. "He was a great man to be around, always positive and his private persona was just a lovely as his public persona. "It's a very sad day as he was a legend in my eyes and a wonderful example of how life should be lived." |

FFS It's not Wogans job, in the entirety of the BBC, to be a whistle blower because he heard a rumour, and if he did come out and publically say something when he had no evidence other than heresay, he'd be off into in a court under a defamation/libel suit before you could say now then now then.
Get some perpspective you pious judgemental keyboard warriors, jesus christ what are you like. |

My God! Only just picked this up on here.
Very sad news of the loss of a unique, and much loved broadcaster, who certainly had "Kissed The Blarney Stone"! Didn't even know he was ill, and still haven't got over the loss of David Bowie, which really hurts. RIP Sir Terry and look out for the great "Blarney Stone" in the sky....x |
