He had an affable self deprecating humour, how many of the present generation 'personalities' do ppl think we still be around after 50 years?
Nick grimshaw, or whatever his name is? Doubt it |

Just checked when John Peel died and was a bit shocked to find it was over 11 years ago now.

Poor by left wing leopard, why didnt you bring up this stuff before his death ?
Such poor taste, completely ruined a fred with your aftertiming. Good or bad, but to label Sir Terry as a paedo accomplish is just bizarre. Amyway, another fred ruined by people who only bring up stuff when people are dead. One day a RIP fred wont be ruined by some lefties. |

^ I didn't need to....the Mirror already did.......I didn't know until I googled it....you don't like to be aware of history
Ostrich with head in sand comes to mind. |

I would sincerely hope that not one chit chatter would read the mirror.

^ Don't think anyone was labeling him a 'paedo accomplice' for feck sake. And with the friends Savile had in high places at that time, namely Mrs.Thatcher, Prince Charles, Ted Heath etc. how far would a whistleblower get with his/her complaint anyway. So Tel and others stayed quiet. As I said it is all a very unsavory subject.
Now more importantly, did Sir Terry wear a wig or not ? |
|
By:
Of course he did.
RIP to a decent man. |

shocked to here this. Didn't realise he was suffering from cancer.
Used to love his breakfast radio 2 show a few years back. F knows why they let Evans take it on. RIP Terry - you'll be missed ![]() |

He could have gone to the police and pushed it, the same as all the other bbc people who 'knew'....he didn't and alot more children were abused.....maybe he was scared?
Of course he could have pushed it, but he didn't. He had the country's ear through his radio show. It would have been easy for him to start the ball rolling. Yet like all the others who said nothing and let Savile get away with it. The possible damage to their careers from speaking out, was worth far more to them than the lives of the poor souls that Savile was abusing. All those who kept silent over Savile at the BBC are tarred with the same brush as far as I'm concerned. |
|
By:
It's no good them condemning Savile in public now he's dead.
They had the chance to bring him to justice while he was alive and they all turned a blind eye. That makes them all guilty in my book. |
|
By:
Re Savile and the BBC - many, many people lacked any moreal backbone to intervene. Truly sickening.
Re Sir Terry - loved his humour. I wasn't quite one of his famous TOGS but would liked to have been. His relationship with his listeners was legendary. He made fun of every situation, every person, especially himself. Always gracious and incredibly gifted. |

I went off him when I heard about his fee from the BBC for presenting Children in Need. Surely a genuine person would have donated it to the fund? He did. A He wrote the fund a cheque each year. |
|
By:
Had longevity in his career and built up an enormous following.
Chose to keep his cancer a secret even telling friends he had a sore back. RIP |

Very good tribute on the one show.
And it's the first time I've seen Lynn Bowles in person. Bit of a MILF. ![]() |

He did. A He wrote the fund a cheque each year.
I couldn't find any evidence of that. |
|
By:
He was paid by the BBC as a matter of contract.
When it was pointed out to him he repaid the cash. I will try to find a link but I remember very clearly reading that in the press some years back. |
|
By:
Stop manipulating the truth akabula.
Terr Wogan got paid for presenting Children in Need. Nothing to do with 'a matter of contract.' He trousered every penny of it until the outcry when the cat was out the bag. Then he stopped getting paid. He could have declined to take a fee years before he was publicly shamed into doing so. Also said Hillsborough victims 'brought it upon themselves.' Nice to have such a view and talking out of his backside before knowing the facts. |

agree about bowles, milf of the week all right
|
|
By:
He was contracted to the BBC. Read up on it charwell.
As regards Hillsborough the public were led to believe that by the police evidence and the biased reporting of some. |
|
By:
Let's just ignore the millions that Wogan made for Children in Need,it was his idea and he drove it and made it successful and concentrate on the wages he negotiated with BBC instead ? How puerile,eh ? Did anyone knocking the guy pay their slaary into the charity ?
|
|
By:
Did Sir Terry have horses in training with Sir Henry Cecil? They may have pounded the Doncaster straight.
|
|
By:
Wogan didn't make millions for children in need. He was the presenter of the tv show! And the millionaire got paid very well for doing so. Never heard such BS as 'he was contracted.'
Ok Terry we are giving you £50k to present children in need. Terry 'no thanks, I already earn a salary; I will do it for free as it's a charity event.' There that wasn't hard was it?! And that's ok then Terry jumps on the bandwagon despite knowing sweet FA about Hillsborough, insults the dead and their families and despite a lot of evidence from the outset dismissing the fabricated police claims. |

Look for the worst in people and you will find it. The trouble is what does it say about you as a person and the life you lead if you always seem to be looking for the worst in people.

I've been watching the One Show tribute on iplayer. Not sure why as I never listened to Radio 2 and his chat show was at best not very good. On the subject of CIN payments, where do you stop? Does no-one get paid: producers, directors, camera crews?
The only good part of the tribute was Chris Evans' story at the beginning. |

All because he blamed the Heysel deaths on Chelsea fans. |

Anyone not understanding that Terry Wogan made a massive contributuion to the success of Children in Need is in delusion. Thousands of the people who organised parties and groups to collect on behalf of the charity were motivated by their allegiance to Tel,it may have continued after he helped to start it off but he drove it forward. He may not have been your cup of tea but he had millions of followers.

I find it laughable when people call him boring. As you've said he had millions of followers. |

brilliant on the radio ... perhaps not so good on tv
not many people knew about Saville they heard gossip to know they would have had to be there perhaps Dr Crippen thinks Terry Wogan was hiding in a cupboard watching |
