A wonderful dry wit, never better than when hosting Eurovision song contest.

Shame his legacy is tarnished by banking large cheques for presenting Children in Need. Whilst the multi millionaire implored the owrking class to dig deep he was lining his pockets.

And as you can't take it with you when you go was it really worth it?

Veteran TV and radio legend Sir Terry Wogan has spoken of his hatred of Jimmy Savile and how his crimes were an open secret at the BBC.

The 75-year-old broadcaster has told of how he despised Savile and how his horrific legacy of child abuse has “poisoned” the BBC.

He said: “He always struck me as creepy. I’ve talked to people and not one of them has said: 'I really liked him.’"

The Children in Need host recalled a celebrity lunch with journalists revealing that it was common knowledge in the industry what Savile was up to.

“I was sitting at a table having lunch and Savile was sitting one up from me, and also up from me was Jean Rook (the legendary columnist)

“And Jimmy Savile got up to go to the loo, and she looked across at me and said: ‘When are they going to expose him?’

And I said ‘that’s your job.’ And nobody ever did, even though everyone had heard the rumours.

“This whole Savile thing has poisoned everything.”

Nice tribute from Peter Deal on Sporting Life website

" Prominent racehorse owner Peter Deal has paid tribute to his close friend Sir Terry Wogan after his death from cancer at the age of 77.

Deal, who owned 1997 Champion Hurdle winner Make A Stand, regularly attended race meetings with the Limerick-born broadcaster and even named a Nicky Henderson-trained horse in his honour.

Sir Terry, who died after "a short but brave battle with cancer" and was known for his velvety voice on radio and television, was one of the UK and Ireland's best known stars.

He had a keen interest in racing, owning horses himself with Henderson and fellow Lambourn handler Barry Hills.

Deal said: "Sir Terry didn't actually own the horse, Wogan, but I decided to name him after him as he is by Presenting out of a mare called Fall About, who is by Comedy Star. Sir Terry liked the linkage.

"He followed the horse regularly and always showed an interest. He loved his racing and was an absolute joy as a companion.

"He was a great man to be around, always positive and his private persona was just a lovely as his public persona.

"It's a very sad day as he was a legend in my eyes and a wonderful example of how life should be lived."

Of course he could have pushed it, but he didn't.
He had the country's ear through his radio show. It would have been easy for him to start the ball rolling.

Yet like all the others who said nothing and let Savile get away with it. The possible damage to their careers from speaking out, was worth far more to them than the lives of the poor souls that Savile was abusing.

All those who kept silent over Savile at the BBC are tarred with the same brush as far as I'm concerned.
Report Dr Crippen • February 1, 2016 11:09 AM GMT

They had the chance to bring him to justice while he was alive and they all turned a blind eye.

Stop manipulating the truth akabula.

Terr Wogan got paid for presenting Children in Need. Nothing to do with 'a matter of contract.' He trousered every penny of it until the outcry when the cat was out the bag. Then he stopped getting paid. He could have declined to take a fee years before he was publicly shamed into doing so.

Also said Hillsborough victims 'brought it upon themselves.' Nice to have such a view and talking out of his backside before knowing the facts.

Wogan didn't make millions for children in need. He was the presenter of the tv show! And the millionaire got paid very well for doing so. Never heard such BS as 'he was contracted.'

Ok Terry we are giving you £50k to present children in need.

Terry 'no thanks, I already earn a salary; I will do it for free as it's a charity event.'

There that wasn't hard was it?!

And that's ok then Terry jumps on the bandwagon despite knowing sweet FA about Hillsborough, insults the dead and their families and despite a lot of evidence from the outset dismissing the fabricated police claims.
