In my opinion

The only reason our police got involved was for Cameron to boost his own public appeal
by being seen to something good

Two police forces have failed to close this one, it must now be considered cold case
It should only be re opened on receipt of fresh evidence

If Cameron still wants to boost his own public image
How about re opening the 'Princes in the Tower case'
that should waste a bit more public money

"The only reason our police got involved was for Cameron to boost his own public appeal"
That's quite impressive of him! ... Given he didn't come to power until a number of years
after the case started and obviously the UK police were knee deep.

Do you write for the Grauniad? Is this, like the other nutters on the thread, a "class" thing?

GRANICKING. That was a question. I did NOT suggest that you were actually saying anything in particular. It was a simple, unbiased question. You seem to assume that I have some sort of vested interest, which I don't.
You then ask me Why I am defending them so hard. So I enquired as to what you are referring to. And then you reply with your 'playing silly buggers, are we?'
I am attempting to show that the McCanns did NOT kill their child. I will also attempt to show some major problems with the dog's findings...no blame on the dog or the handler...just falsification of evidence by certain parties in Portugal. Parties who stand to profit from the apparent 'evidence' that would help to sell a book, perhaps.

The dogs input here is pivotal and A_T mentioned problems for the handler that I was not aware of and could be important. I won't know until A_T responds. Sad

Maybe if the McCanns sold their house and moved into a smaller one then they could put some money into the pot themselves.
Time to call a halt until some new leads materialise.
Ben Needhams Mum was granted less about £700k recently as a one off in the search for her son.
I've always felt for her as she received very little help at the time of Ben's disappearance.

Regarding the cadaver dogs they did not just search the hired car of the McCann's, they behaved differently towards this car whilst another nine cars were there.

There is no evidence of a break in so I think either McCann's have done it by accident or something more sinister or an employee who would have had a key to the room and know when they were checking on the children.

A_T. Thanks for replying. I will Google it but I'm not sure what to type in for the search. I'm sorry that you felt the need to be curt.
Still, it might just supply the  missing piece of info. At least I'm aware of it, now.

The only certainty here is that whatever happened to Madeleine (to me an abduction is most likely) the McCanns failed her badly.

Let's face it; the whole case is a complete mystery including Naydam's stance. I personally would like to know from where Kate got the pictures of Madeleine at such short notice and why she distributed them when told, with good reason, not to release them because of Madeleine's eye condition. Also how the McCanns seemed to be so organised with instucting lawyers immediately; almost as if they had a plan of action ready to put into operation as soon as Madeleine was missing. Most parents in the same situation probably wouldn't know what day it was but the McCanns seemed so calm and controlled.
Of course, I was not there, so as with every aspect of the case Naydam can say I don't know what really happened and what is truth and what has been made up.

I agree Akabula.
I think the McCanns are carrying unnassuageble guilt...although how deep this guilt is I have no idea like others?
They certainly failed on child care that is for sure. It would not surprise if Kate McCann cracked completely one day.

We have had over 8 years of investigation by two police forces...they have their suspicions, but they cannot get the evidence,
to charge anyone, it may not be there, sometimes the bad guys win.

Until there is fresh evidence which may never be found, I think it should be considered
cold case

If Maddie was still alive, we would have no idea what she looks like now and she would have no memory of her life with
the McCanns.

The Paedophile theory

It would have been particularly u/l if an opportunistic paedophile chanced by on the one night

It is more likely they had some advance information. The first supplier of this the McCanns themselvesSad out on the town
every night with no kids. The second supplier other guests at the Hotel, this was revealed by the press of course,
although there could have been chequebook journalism, but I am inclined to believe it.

But one other thing, if it was a paedophile they must have known within a fairly short time of her disappearance
because the McCanns may have changed their habits. They must have known there would no Nanny well. how?

I will take as given, the hotel staff have been thoroughly scrutinised and cleared by now.

To find a paedophile, I think it was a rush job, maybe some way in here

Only a guess here of course.to add to the others

Ebul. It would have been known by all of the staff at the complex that the kids (for the whole group?) were left alone. The parents also had a block booking at the Tapas bar...same table, same time, every night.

Well it is a great pity they did not then, some of us think this is actually a parents job to imagine this....to protect them

I don't believe this was the only time they did this either?
