yesterday, but when was it first recorded,
I have heard a pre-beatles version. |
By:
learner - Matt Monro's version is not "pre-Beatles" assuming that is the one you were thinking of. Hth.
By:
it sounded thirties style , if it had been forties or fifties people would have remembered it when the beatles did it .incidentally ,it is the most recorded song there is .
By:
learner it was written by Paul McCartney (credited Lennon and McCartney) and first released in August 1965 on the Help album. Monro's version was released three months after Help and became a top ten single for him.

Nice to see Eric Bogle getting a mention. He wrote this.....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEMcLcGJ79s Probably one of the finest anti war songs ever written AND one of the finest song covers ever. Pogues live aint bad though. |
By:
Will You, Hazel O'Conner also a great Sax solo.
By:
Just to add Eric Bogle wrote William McBride in response to anti Irish sentiment that was growing in the Uk after the Birmingham pub and other mainland bombings of the early 70,s,he wanted to point out the amount of British ww1 dead that were also Irish ,his overall point was about the war to end all wars and the amount of men that died that probably did not understand why they were fighting ,you could prob make that argument about most wars ,although cant say even now the reasons for ww1 are clear .The song has been hijacked by republicans and renamed and made into something it is not ,in fact many think its an irish folk song, mind you they ate quick to believe any old **** in that neck of the woods.

Love was so tender, I let my heart surrender.
In the summer breeze all my cares just blew away. But Summer turns to Winter and the rain it falls.. Castles in the air.. and I'm missing you. and in the back of my mind, I'm trying to find a reason why? a beautiful thing like the flowers of spring ... have to to die. And in my mind will I find someone new... or will I spend my whole life.. missing you... I bets you cannot find this song online? |

really remembered was Sugar Sugar being played in my next door neighbors kitchen on my mates Mums transistor radio.I wasn't allowed much freedom as a child it was like living in a crackpot religious group living at my house..A Guy at the Church gave me first record it was a 45 by a band called the Pipkens but I loved the record as it contained this classic ..Mama told me not to come.. ![]() |
