I have been reading some awful reviews concerning this company...my current contract with Sky is up and was possibly thinking of changing...any thoughts?

FWIW had adsl (slow broadband )with them for 6+ yrs and never had a problem with them.

I used them once, but never will again.
Having to move house - and to a non-virgin location - they just closed my email address without warning. Also, Virgin is no cheaper. Despite all the (false) advertising. |

I have both Virgin and Sky (don't ask).
My internet is with Virgin and I can't imagine a better / more reliable service. It is fast and has gone down twice in about 12 years - both times for less than an hour. As regards the TV, I much prefer the Tivo to the Sky+ HD box. One downside with Virgin is no access to Sky Atlantic. The Customer service is just as bad with one as the other. When I want to speak to them I always go through to the "I want to cancel my service" option and that almost always gets you through to somebody based in this country - which is a start............... |

I was with virgin till chirstmas but all the price rises that occured at virgin and the offers elsewhere meant being out of contract I would be better moving.
I chose BT, because Sky made such a bolox of my account when I was with them that the ombudsman had to get involved. BT customer service are about as bad as Ive encountered. 9 months after joining Im still chasing up the original start off vouchers. They treat customers with disdain having a terrible front end that simple attempts to deny problems with accounts and the teams are so badly trained its unreal. In a nutshell, every company within this sector attempt to outdo each other by running the service the customer gets into the ground, they are all an utter bag of 5hit. |

That's really depressing dustybin. I'm with Virgin who really take the p1ss with their pricing but the alternatives look worse. The only thing I want to watch that isn't on freeview is the cricket on Sky, they can keep the rest, but unfortunately Mrs F watches some of the other rubbish so I'm stuck with it.

£79 per month for 18 month contract sound about right?..included in that packace are all sky sports, all BT sports, broadband, phone, two boxes plus HD.Just cancelled sky and they didn't appear to bothered bearing in mind i'v been with them 16 years.Offered me a deal of £81 per month for 12 months but that was without BT sport.

Ill be going back with virgin in a few months Foinavon, only because you have to treat tv/internet/phone packages like bank accounts.
They make old customers subsidise these new offers all the time its vile. when you leave one they offer you the world to go back but treat you like s hit while with em Thats the face of opportunism for you |

On pricing twizzle the go out of their way to make it as opaque as possible to trick you out of as much money as they can.
Ive been offered over 75 % off for a year on several occasions while not a customer that shows how much of a mark up they have. |

I've been with Virgin (previously NTL) since 2000 and I concur with Gin - Their broadband has been top notch since day one; barely a blip in all that time. Sometimes reliability is worth the extra dollar - As for Sports I use my Dad's Sky Go and I seldom watch TV so that isn't missed at all (I no longer own a TV). I have unlimited (landline) calls on the phone and including line rental and all of the above I contribute £50pm. I see that as good business all round. No BT Sports though.

I'm with Virgin and wouldn't consider changing. Never had a problem with them (was with NTL when Virgin took them over). Got the phone/tv/internet.

As above,been with them since they where NTL.
Very rarely had issues over all those years. Any issues have always been sorted promptly. I think it's a bit costly compared to Sky. But credit where credits due. |

Just switched this week.
When we moved in 9 years ago I looked on their website , but only the houses on the opposite side of the road showed up. I was told that when the road was cabled , if there were cars blocking the path , it did not get cabled. Hence our side of the road was only cabled in the last couple of months. Broadband & TV £43 for first year as a sweetener to get new customers. |

I've been with Virgin since they were Yorkshire Cable, then Telewest.
Got the lot with them. The odd problem with Broadband but no real complaints. Have had the odd spell with Sky, mainly because of racing coverage. |

We started with Cable & Wireless must be 30 years ago.Memory not brilliant nowdays, but think
it then changed to NTL, and now of course its Virgin.Never had a major problem with any of them.The only problem i have with them is that the new customers get all the best offers. We have a full package with an extra box , Internet, and telephone. hennigan ( ex Betfair poker regular ) |

Now I think about it I was an NTL customer.
Infact there hasn't been a year I wasn't with somebody, and have been with pretty much every incarnation except bt TV. What I have noticed for certain however is that although download top speeds with Virgin are fastest, upload speeds are never as good as infinity, nor for that matter is WI fi, which is down to sometimes woeful routers that Virgin spew out |

I laugh at the likes of sky selling day passes for sport for a tenner a day Or ruk doing much the same Its like selling small tins of beans, they are s hit value cos they want u to take more of what they churn out. But what these media companies churn out is garbage. |

Virgin has all of those. I think I am right in saying Sky charge extra for some HD channels wheras Virgin don't (except the premium sports and movies channels). Tv anywhere app does the same as sky go. I know you can get box sets via virgin on demand - not sure how good they are though as I never use them. |

I've been on Virgin Media for 10+ years. Service is good, but it's getting so expensive these days. Have an XL package which is TV, internet and sports channels. You do get Sky & BT sports, but every six months the price rises and it's now almost £90 a month. I think the sports channels are about £30-£40 of that.
No surprise, but it's gone up within a few weeks every time they've announced a new Premier League / Sky deal, with that tw@t Scudamore announcing each multi-billion pound deal as if the higher the better and more worthy of celebration. If I could have the package without the football I'd definitely take it as I could do without football, as I suspect would be the same for many. Only keep it as I like darts, golf, cricket and Eurosport. |

When I was with Virgin last the monthly bill was around 120 a month for everything. Those people with android boxes are giving em a bloody nose now though, wonder what they will do about it? It's the same with bt sport. I joined bt when they offered bt sport package for free for a year. Halfway through the year they tell me that they are changing things and now they have some European channel that I don't watch as well as the premiere football one that I seldom do. But don't worry they say, you don't need to do anything....except if you don't from the 1st of August they will start charging me for it. Why didn't they offer me the channel and if I wanted it I'd buy it? So I had to go through all the rigmorale of having to opt out of something I never wanted or signed up for all the time them trying to dissuade me from doing it telling me how much telly I never watch I'll be missing. It makes me angry. |

I'm similar to you Danno. Only take sports for cricket, they can keep the bootball and everything else. I sometimes watch the cycling on Eurosport but that's it. Internet is excellent though and I don't want to change for an inferior service. The cost in absolute terms is not an issue for me but still don't like being ripped off.

Do you get any discount on your package? If not, ring up the cancel hotline and tell them you need to cut the price down. They will almost certainly offer you something (I have had between £8-£16 a month off). The discount generally only lasts for 12 months but you then just have to ring them up again when it runs out. Its a bit of a pain but you save £100-150 a year for making the call. You can also save another £3-4 a month by pre-paying for your line rental for 12 months. This obviously ties you in though so you don't want to do this until you have got them to agree to other discounts. |

just checked my broadband speed on speedtest.net, 54.58mb. I don't know what other suppliers are but Virgin is pretty good. cheers.

Best of a bad bunch.
On the plus side, their broadband is superb. Fastest and most reliable. Almost never have a problem with Internet connection and when there is one its fixed in matter of hours. My gripe with them is the price increases. You get a great deal when you first sign up but its only for a few months then come the increases - it's relentless. I started on about £37/month (for TV, Internet, phone) and now its about £63/month. I hardly watch any TV and I don't have a landline (not possible in my property) so I resent paying for that, but of course they won't let you pay for Internet alone. |

I have Virgin for my internet.No real problems,but if you 'phone customer sevice the people who answer sound like they are clueless.I'd like to change to a cheaper service,maybe BT,but I'm too scared.The "devil you know" etc.

It wasn't that long ago that I phoned Virgin as I needed to cut a few costs in my budget. They said they'd halve my broadband for 3 months to help. They did exactly that and didn't change it back for 18 months! Worth asking imo

It was their calculation of the amount taking the offer would save you....but thats always fraught with inaccuracy when companies are allowed to say stuff like that, its akin to marking your own homework. I do know that 100 quid of it is in vouchers though, with john lewis or amazon I think. |

Oh in that case don't bother...thought the whole package was only going to cost 500 sovs per year.As my broadband speed is so low i was thinking of just investing in the broadband and phone deal (about £35 a mnth i think) and "acquiring" one of them android thingys for the cricket and golf.

christ, Ive just looked at the brochure that comes with the offer, I kid you not the small print on the back covers a third of an A4 sheet and thats in tiny print! Thats in addition to all the asterix on each asertion on each page through the brochure. Its so f uckin contrived in its complexity that Id get ill trying to work out the truth of it tbh. How the fook this is allowable conduct Ill never know * *oh yes I do know its because greed and opportunism is perfectly acceptable within the realms of business |
