It's because people are like sheep. If someone says that the grass is greener over there, then that's where the sheep will go. Simple.
It's ok until the native sheep complain that their grass is all gone.

Totally agree with the OP and have been saying the same (much to the disgust of others), they where being sent money from a relative in Canada as well. The father decided to board one of those rafts to go to Kos with the plan of traveling all the way to Canada, why was he putting his wife and kids at risk with this bizarre idea of getting to a country they had already been denied asylum??

Because the promise of an open door policy (in Germany) was being dangled in front of them, a hysteria has gripped these people via the internet / word of mouth. It's quite obvious why things have kicked off, if you stand back and look at it.

They don't stay in Turkey because they're not welcome, they don't get the same  access and opportunities to employment/education, Turkey can take years to process refugee's no thanks to the nationalism the politicians are always fronting, only illegal work is available, Europe treats them like humans.

I thought these people were refugees fleeing for their lives scandinavian? You make it seem like the world is just various types of Holiday Camp with Turkey being Pontins and Europe being Butlins. If you aren't in immediate danger then surely that is the safe haven you have craved?

I don't think searching for legal status, an education, lawful employment whilst being treating like a leper  as searching for a holiday camp. Life for refugees in Turkey is almost worthless compared to Europe.

You make no sense despite the evidence being all around you. Look at the people clamouring to get onto the trains of Hungary, Austria and other countries to move to other countries in Europe. Does it then go from comparisons between holiday camps to a veritable pick n mix? If you're as thick as two short planks then you can be excused but assuming you aren't then please, no more lies and propaganda. England is vastly overpopulated in comparison to our comparable neighbours like France. Hardly anybody wants "asylum" in warm countries like Spain and Portugal. I don't blame them for wanting to create a better life for themselves and I'm certainly not one of the, "they are coming for the benefits" merchants. I believe these people want to work and create a better life for themselves and I applaud them for that but we have to have control of our immigration and borders. Especially as net immigration ratchets ever higher.

According to the "German Migration Office" more than 40 percent of all asylum applications during the first six months of 2015 came from ... the Balkans. Economic migrants, unless Albania or Macedonia are at war (maybe I missed that).

I'm not sure which part you don't understand or what you're misunderstanding but it's simple stuff, they prefer 'certain' European countries if you like because they are better off in welcoming countries like Sweden or Germany than in Turkey  where as previously said, it's much harder to gain refugee status and a better life for their family, Turkey is merely a transit nation. My main point was answering the question as to why they leave Turkey, why they are leaving countries like Hungry and Austria is a different one but not far off the same reasons, they are not welcome there either.

EU in a right mess now and its not going to be pretty at all. Talk of quotas is an absolute joke. Say you're a refugee and you get "allocated" to one of the Baltic states or Poland, Slovakia, Bulgaria et al and you get your papers..yep, you're really going to stay there.

Schengen then does its natural work....

But that will go under the radar zilal. Once they are in. They are in. Once they are in. The clarion call goes out to the others:

And why do you want to go to Britain?

I have family and friends there.

Well in you come then. Next.

Amazing how "Merkel" is suddenley a saint and that Germany is"leading" Europe..lets see, who were the only countries to admit Eastern European workers in 2004 when the AAscession countries joined the EU..hmm..it seems to be the UK, Ireland and Sweden...... Germany took a "Holiday"

"but Germany have taken in far more migrants and refugees than us" ??

bit strange that Germany, at the end of 2013 had 2 million less in its population from the year 2000, and the UK appears to grown by 6 million..more than the last 40 years combined.

im sure someone can explain that

zilzal1 I brought that up months ago. Once one country gives any of them full validity as EU citizens, it doesn't matter where they go in the short term, they'll go where they want.

Like all of you I've a lot of sympathy for the normal people caught up in a nightmare but I fear this is going to end very badly once the self righteousness rubbish wears off, and the self righteousness rubbish is off the scale now.

We should stop fighting assad, he's a dictator but it's quite obvious letting these countries collapse into weak tribal warfare isn't the answer. Thats why all the bordering countries are a mess. Get rid of him and what, we've another failed state, a Libya Mk I and IS just move in? So, get a ceasefire in Syria which just seems to be a war of attrition, then we stop p1ssing around and deal with the murdering nutcases, that's dragged on far too long.

All this ignoring the actual source of the problems is frustrating.

It's like we're in 1939 and wringing our hands about Poland but not even discussing how to deal with Hitler.
