The Russian President Vladimir Putin has blamed the migrant crisis emanating from the Middle East on America. He also blamed European states for backing US efforts to spread democracy, which he said were responsible for the current exodus of people sweeping across the EU.

Appearing at the inaugural Moscow-hosted Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Putin told journalists Friday that he had predicted the current crisis, according to euractiv. “I think this is a completely expected crisis,” he said.

“We in Russia say, and I have said it myself, that there will be large scale problems if our so-called Western partners pursue such an erroneous policy, especially foreign policy, in the regions of the Muslim world in the Middle East and North Africa. They continue to engage in such a policy.

“What kind of policy is it? It is about imposing their own standards, without taking into account the historical, religious, national, cultural features of these regions. This is primarily a policy of our American partners.”

Putin commented that he was surprised as the US’s criticism of Europe’s handling of the crisis, seeing as it was the US which had created it. He emphasised that America had not suffered at all personally from the crisis, while Europe, which “blindly followed US instructions,” had suffered heavily.

His comments come days after Vladimir Chizhov, Russia’s ambassador to the EU, made similar statements.

Speaking on a panel entitled “The EU and Russia: Rivals, Opponents, Partners?” at the Alpbach Forum on 31 August, Chizhov told the audience that it EU enlargement was the cause of the paralysis in relations between the bloc and Russia.

Referencing the Lisbon Treaty, he said: “The inward-looking peace project has acquired a new somewhat messianic dimension – the EU now ‘seeks to advance in the wider world… principles which have inspired its own creation’. The question is, however, whether this ‘export of democracy’ is consistent with the objective of maintaining peace inside and beyond the European continent, or the European Union will have to make a hard choice between the two.”

Calling for a more equal relationship between the EU and Russia, he called on Brussels to recognise Russia’s Eurasian Economic Union project as its counterpart.

He continued: “In the Russian view … the disastrous turn of events in the region of the so-called ‘Arab spring’ as well as in Ukraine has a lot to do with the attempt to inject the notion of supremacy of Western values into highly complex regional environments.

“Certainly, the EU alone can hardly be blamed for regional instability. Nevertheless, the European Neighbourhood Policy, in my view, was not made any more attractive by the heavy-handed manner in which the EU sought to ‘civilise’ the region and impose its own norms and standards there.” He did not reference the US directly in his speech.

Putin also indicated a desire to join with other countries in the fight against terrorism, saying: “We really want to create some kind of an international coalition to fight terrorism and extremism. To this end, we are holding consultations with our American partners – I have personally spoken on the issue with US President Obama.”

He has also held talks about such a coalition with the leaders of Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and others, he said.

To paraphrase Mr. Putin,

Western European countries should make themselves into a sh!thole that nobody would want to go to and problem solved.

He has a point, however, it would seem that many western European countries have already made progress in this regard and are well along that road by their own devices.Sad

One of the things that gets my goat is the virtue signalling.

It is just as easy, just as thoughtless, just as dogmatic, just as extreme, to propose unconditional compassion towards all the people who have fled Syria as it is to propose that they should all stay there and rot.

It is a complicated situation.

I don't particularly like this conservative government but i am rather grateful for Cameron's understanding that when rich european countries publicly announce offers of asylum, they are merely encouraging people to make incredibly dangerous journeys across the Mediterranean. Indeed a "let them all come" attitude in light of the pictures of Aylan Kurdi, is merely making it more likely that more children will die attempting to cross the med in unsuitable boats.

Furthermore does is not worry, for example, the Swedes, that if a survey is to be believed, the Swedish Democrats, a thoroughly unpleasant right wing party, but the only party in Sweden prepared to countenance a tightening of its countries immigration policy, recently became the most popular party in the country? How many of the virtue signallers will be there to help in the areas where the immigrants arrive, to allieviate and allay the anxieties of the communities affected by the influx of migrants. Because amongst these people will be waverers pressed to vote for the Swedish Democrats.

This blind tolerance and compassion from people quick to vocalise, whilst being slow or reluctant to actually do anything, inevitably makes countries more intolerant.

The truth is that the Syrian refugees in Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey, which is where the overwhelming majority of them are (estimates are saying about 3.6 million of the 4 million, so 90%), need a constant and continual stream of finanical aid, and an organised process to seek asylum in Europe where appropriate. Controlling crossings across the med is imperative and a co-ordinated approach is required from all the navies in Europe.

Never let facts get in the way but, just for fun, here are a couple;

Turkey HAS taken in some refugees, 1,700,000 at the last count.
Little Lebanon has taken in 1,000,000 almost a quarter of their population, equating to the UK taking in some 15,000,000

Islam was founded nearly 1500 years ago. One of the major sects within it have interpreted their book as telling them that they must convert or kill all non-believers, which they`ve been doing ever since. It didn`t start with the creation of Israel, nor is it the fault of any modern day administration or leaders; they are nothing more than bit players, on the scene for a few years, then gone, to be replaced by more short-term bit players. The fault lies exclusively with those muslims who believe they must convert or kill us. Anyone who chooses to pretend that this is not the case are ignorant, and or disingenuous, and or anti-semitic and or liars.
These are the facts.

I don't think people are criticising Turkey. They are asking why people are seeking to run away from a safe country. Criticism is being reserved for many rich countries in the area like the Saudi's who are not taking any people in.

I don't tell lies Jockey. Have a look at the following for countries like Spain and Portugal. Incidentally I'd also suggest you have a look at the lack of people countries like the Saudi's take in:

So it turns out that the father had been in Turkey for 3 years and had been refused entry into Canada, I wonder if he has been arrested yet.
