Its definitely not farah. He's nowhere near any world records The marathon is a lot bigger in Africa now, ££££'s for the big city events. So you get 20year olds going straight to it rather than faffing round with farah on the track.

World records are run in sterile races set up by a trio of pacemakers. Medals are far more important than world records, and Mo Farah has shown himself peerless for the past few years tactically.

Agree about the money though, so many Africans are enticed in because of the money - almost all Kenyan greats are from poor areas of the country for example - and the money is in the big city marathons.

My favourite cartoon from the Olympics was the two old lads in the pub saying " wasn't it great watching Mo Farah beating off all them Africans "

That's more or less verbatim what the TV commentator said. Spluttered a good mouthful of vodka over the carpet ffs!Laugh

Anyway, the answer to the question is JOCKY WILSON.

ffs Mo Farah moved to the UK when he was 8 years old. Some people on here making out he moved here as a fully fledged athlete in a flag of convenience scenario.

What were those critics doing when they were 8 years old and what have they achieved since on the world stage to make this country proud?

Answers on the back of a postage stamp but doubt you have enough to fill the space.Plain

to be a great sportsman you need skill. Running isn't a skill. Therefore Farah is out.

tbf I have missed quite a few buses as a result of a lack of this ability.

are you suggesting that those with the skills of, such as, carpentry, pottery and glass-blowing should be brought into the discussion as potentially Britain's greatest sportsman?

Sport is so varied ,requiring different skills, that it's impossible to compare one against the other

Can't decide between these four :

Jim Clark
Seb Coe
Lennox Lewis
Lester Piggott

-------

Since Clark and Piggott were doing sitting down sports, I guess it's between Coe and Lewis.
On the other hand, you could say that Clark and Piggott were the best in their sports EVER.

In my youth one was taught that winning was not important, it was the participation that counted. On that basis may I suggest Jack Bodell?
