The latest forum competition, this time it’s for Tennis’s US OPEN: PLEASE ENTER ON THIS THREAD
This is how it works:
There are 12 sections You have to pick 1 player, score, round, or number (depending on which section) for each one. The scores for each selection are listed below.
Just put the letters A to L with your choice for each - preferably going downwards, followed by a tie-break answer.
There is a prize, which Betfair have kindly donated – a total of £100 in Sportsbook bets.
This will be broken down into 3 prizes, £50, £30 and £20, for the top 3 competition finishers.
In the event of ties, a tiebreak will come into effect so there should be an absolute winner (and 2nd & 3rd).

A. What round will Stanislas Wawrinka reach – or Will he win?
In his 6 appearances at the US Open, he’s reached R1, R2, R4, QF twice and SF.
Choose from R1, R2, R3, R4, QF, SF, F, Win.
2 points for being right.
B. How many of the top 16 Mens seeds will make the last 16?
Choose from 0 to 16
4 points for being spot on, 2 points if 1 out, 1 point if 2 out.
C. How many of the top 16 Womens seeds will make the last 16?
Choose from 0 to 16
4 points for being spot on, 2 points if 1 out, 1 point if 2 out.
D. What will the score be in the 2nd set of the 1st round match between Andy Murray and Nick Kyrgios. Put Murray’s score 1st
So a score from 0-6 through to 6-0 (not forgetting 7-6 or 6-7) with the 1st number being the number of games scored by Murray in the 2nd set of this match
3 points if correct, 1 point if 1 out.
E. Will previous winners win the Tournaments (Men’s singles, Womens singles, both or Neither
Previous winners taking part are:
Men: Cilic, Djokovic, Federer, Hewitt, Murray, Nadal.
Women: Kuznetsova, Sharapova, Stosur, Williams (S), Williams (V)

4 points to correct predictions, 2 if out by 1, 1 point if out by 2.
J. How many of the 9 or 10 players whose surname begins with a D will still be in the mens singles in Round 3?
This is the full list, I don’t think there are any qualifiers beginning with a D who can still be added: Darcis, Delbonis, Dimitov, Djokovic, Dodiq (if he qualifies), Dolgopolov, Donaldson, Duckworth, Dzumhur and Daniel or Donskoy (who play each other to get into R1)
No matches in Round 1 or 2 are ‘all D’ affairs unless one of the qualifiers has to play one of those already in.

Ok, thanks Anubis. Seems I need to keep more up to date with things!
Can't believe conditions are that much worse than ever before. Seems players are potentially underprepared to me, or unprepared to fight / play 5 sets. And then you have the likes of Dolgopolov who seemed just not to want to bother trying to come back from a losing position so threw the towel in.
I'd tend to agree, Darlo, surely this isn't the first time they've played tennis when it's hot!?!

Interesting to see Johanna Konta of GBR (well, Australia with Hungarian parents and training in Spain) getting to the last 16. Also the lesser known Estonian Anett Kontaveit who is even more of a surprise to have got so far.
If only they can keep the improvement going, though it is pretty unlikely, the womens final could be:

I haven't been this excited over tennis since buying that famous Athena poster as a teenager.
Following Serena's shock defeat, Barrowboy leaps into 2nd place and will be rooting for Wawrinka this evening. I need Federer to win to move into joint first with Badjoe, but with four points up for grabs on the last leg there will still be nineteen runners who can claim the top spot!
I've gone for twenty-five games on the basis that it keeps me in with a shout whether it's a two or three setter.

With so many possible permutatations it's tough to pick a winner even at this late stage. From a personal point of view: 16 games or below; between 24 and 26 games; or 30 games and above will see me top the table.
I think the most likely scenario will be one of the guys on nine or ten points leapfrogging everybody to claim top spot.

A very enjoyable competition Study, many thanks. I was initially disappointed when I didn't see a thread for the World Bog Snorkelling Championships in August, but this has more than made up for it.
That would be a good idea Trilby, but I fear it might be too late to set it up.
