strange that they don't leave their dead for weeks after one dies.
I think they are clever,and know what is going on around them.
and I think most people find them interesting and like them.
in fact I know of nobody that has ever gone to the zoo and did not visit the elephants in it.

another strange thing is that people have a old saying,'DONT TALK ABOUT THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM"

Another is if a guy goes out for a drink and has too many ,you will hear people say "he was elephants last night"

The Elephant in the Room :
an expression which alludes to something very large and obvious which is not being talked about.
The reasons for not talk about something can be various.
If there was an Elephant in your room you would talk about it.
Eg : The Queen visits and your Gran poos her pants, this may not be talked about as The Queen may be the culprit.
So it becomes the Elephant in the room.

yes,i understand the saying,but I was wondering how did it start,

No....The Elephant was used because it would be hard to miss in your library, study, parlour etc.

we also had a movie called( the elephant man) and we had Hannibal who marched the elephants over some mountain or through some pass,but apart from these few examples they are very scarce.something tells me there was a race horse called Nellie the elephant but that's about it I think.

this thread started because I was reading about elephants on the internet tonight,and as the leopard says people are still killing them,and the numbers in the world are very low now,only small pockets of them left in Africa and asia.
