That's very true Davy. We shouldn't dehumanise them. They are people but they are people that the inhabitants of this island don't want to take. So what is the answer? These aren't asylum seekers. They are economic migrants. Which again is nothing to be ashamed of. They want a better life. The problem being that for every one that is allowed into the country will result in the message going out that tens of millions of others should chance their arm. We can address the issue now. We may not be able to in a few years.

They are making a logical decision though Maleuk.

Im not British so i dont know how your system works. However, it appears that you treat them an awful lot better than the French.I cant imagine something like that slum in Calais existing in your country (to your credit).

Blame the politicians and the the system not the people.I'm against open borders like just about every person on the planet.
Indians resent Bangladeshis, Costa Ricans resent Nicaraguans, Chileans hate Peruvians. Its something that exists everywhere.

My point is, these are people not scum and they are making the most rational choice.I would certainly do the same, as would most.

Again Eternal, im not for open borders. No right thinking person is.
But, the blame lies with your system not with the migrants.

Indeed it does as most people would agree. Our problem is that we do seem to have people who we call luvvies who are quite deranged individuals and who want to roll out the red carpet to anybody who turns up whatever the reason.

There was a man fifty years ago who waxed lyrical about our proud history of taking in small numbers over many centuries and assimilating them but that we would have awful problems with an open door policy. These luvvies hounded him out of politics for telling the truth.

davy they have no thought or care for the uk these people at Calais. They are out for what they can get for FREE!

They are costing now millions of pounds for haulage firms and importers/exporters, disruption for travellers, do you think they care?

Of course not, they are safe in France and to be honest 95% are prob safe in the country they come from.

So those who genuinely need asylum now get tarred with the same brush and will become much harder for those people who seriously need help. I doubt they care much about those people either.

.......perhaps the free movement of people would be considered a noble idea......normal in fact.

.....if only there wasn't such a disparity in the wealth of countries around the world........

.....and also within countries around the world....whether they are considered relatively rich or relatively poor countries.
By:

When: 01 Aug 15 23:54
Of course Maleuk. They don't care about the UK, they are not British after all.If they can get something for free...well, that sounds pretty good.
It's completly logical and rational maleuk.I don't agree with it, but thats how it is.

Eternal, your country seems to be an exception. Most of the worlds countries prefer to have a homogenous population. The most racist people i have ever met have been Mexicans.
In Mexico they will complain bitterly about how badly they are treated by los gringos...however, ask them about Honduran and Salvadoran migrants in Mexico Shocked...

Hijos de puta, ladrones, sicarios, violadores!!!

It's natural to want to be surrounded by your own people. Its human nature.

When: 02 Aug 15 00:00
Eternal, actually not just the Uk.Seems to me Western and Nothern Europe along with North America.Everywhere else is fairly homogenous...i think?

After much rambling, here is my point Happy

This time about the economic migrants...

If i was working in say Ethiopia making $100 a month, working 6 days a week, 12 hours a day, and then was told that if i just get to the UK i will get a multiple of that and not even have to work...

I venture to say i might try it.It's illegal, but i won't be put in jail. Why not try it?
Who here wouldn't try it?Yes, i would be an economic migrant but they might let me stay. These people are making a rational choice.Doesn't make them scum.I'd do it.

They are just normal people who see an opportunity.

Again, blame the system, not the people.
By:

When: 02 Aug 15 01:28
It's the frustration about the system which causes the people to be blamed. If they were stranded elsewhere without a hope of getting into this country do you think people would be so exercised Davy? Of course not. They are exercised because they know that sooner or later those people will be pitching up here adding to the many overcrowding issues we already have.

Believe me, Argentines are just as piss ed off about Colombian migrants in Buenos Aires. That's the way the world is, that's the way we are as people.
An example, my friend from El Salvador...Salvador expelled all black people from the country in the 50's believing them to be inferior.
Hutus didn't much care tutsis.Pashtuns are not well recived in Karachi.

That's the way the world is.
By:

When: 02 Aug 15 01:50
However, it's also human nature to seek something better, hence the migrants.
I don't blame them them for trying.

Measures taken today are shyte

More security guards, more private security and higher fences Cry

Maybe I lack compassion but I'd have no problem manning a 50 cal machine gun and sorting it. Hundreds pulling down fences at the minute, what happens when it's 10,000

I DO blame the migrants for attempting illegal entry into a country.

All their attempts whether they succeed or fail are costing us millions of pounds. The toll on the hauliers is incredible. Many people could lose their livelihoods over this chaos.

Sooner or later people caught up in this mess will get killed. The sh*t will really hit the fan if one of these illegals commits a heinous crime whilst here. We have enough criminals already..

Having been to 4 very poor Africa nations I have every sympathy for their plight. I had a teacher in Ethiopia beg me to take his son back with me to England. Across Africa, farming is often up to a 1000 years behind the rest of the world.....The reasons for that are complicated but very solvable.

But it's no excuse to charge police, cut through fences, jump aboard lorries and trains and expect someone else to pay.

Same people calling for the white tribe of Africa to be dispossessed of everything and to be repatriated are saying the UK should allow people from everywhere and anywhere to settle in the UK.This is hypocrisy.

We are too soft and you can't blame them for wanting to get here.  Pic in the DM this morning of Migrants Adam and Muhammad relaxing at a three-star Best Western Park Hall hotel.

Being put up in a free hotel (and probably getting room service as well !) with good food and money. With a welcome like that of course they want to come here, don't blame them, blame the system.  Bloody crazy situation !  But Cameron has got it under control sending some dogs down and more fences,  he hasn't got a clue !

From The Mail on Sunday:

"How can it have come to this, that British citizens, paying their own way in well-appointed hotels, find that they are sharing their accommodation with newly arrived migrants, in many cases here by illegal means, supplied with all they need by taxpayers’ money?

At the same time, The Mail on Sunday reveals the existence of a government website advertising the benefits available – again at the taxpayers’ expense – to anyone who can get here and claim to be a refugee. They can even apply for free spectacles, so better for them to fill in the forms for more benefits.

These facts are as astonishing to the new arrivals as they are to British citizens."

How many do want to let in.  Forget Calais - how about the eu and normal immigration??

2 million   5 millin 20 million

there is nothing to stop them

this calais thing helps to divert away from the main issue not a few thousand at the fences

very convenient

I wonder if the ones who welcome them and tell us to play fair and humane would like a 'swarm' living next door to them in Notting Hill or deepest oxfordshire???

Its all a question of numbers and where you draw the line. What would a world with open borders look like, a massive movement of people from rich to poor nations resulting in chaos and a breakdown in order.  So a line has to be drawn and most people in this country say enough and that opinion should be respected.

If we allow them in they should be parked in concentration camps prior to a decision being made as to whether or not they have a genuine reason for being allowed to stay. If they are economic migrants they should be packed onto planes and flown back to whichever country they originated from.If it's too dangerous to land they could be ejected..with a parachute of course.
There is NO reason for letting more flotsam settle in this country at the taxpayers expense.

pardon my ignorance, but why haven't the army not been deployed at least at dover and the channel tunnel at least helping search trains and lorrys.

our forces seem to be deployed everywhere else in the world bar protecting our borders.

seems to me once these illegal immigrants set their foot in the country they are hear for good,no one seems to get deported.

we could also change the benefits system.

No money/healthcare/education/houses etc

until you have lived and worked full time for 5 years paying taxes.

that will stop a large majority of them bothering to come here.
By:
maleuk01.
When: 02 Aug 15 17:31
then only a maximu period you can claim benefits eg 1  year then they stop and you would have to return to country of origin.

Some very sensible suggestions. It's time some of the luvvies like Facts and his chums actually put forward some constructive suggestions instead of crying about how beastly some people are. People become beastly when their concerns are ignored.

Thats all I want to hear. A solution, I keep hearing how the country is not over crowded from the left and that taking all 5000 is nothing. But lets take for example the woman talking this morning. "I'm a single mother I dont want anything just to be safe" So how will you fund that being safe for you and your child when you get here?
Its the same old story they come over jump the queue drive down wages dont intergrate and make the country a shoitehole. Then in a few years they'll be having a "human rights" claim up

Don't be taken in. When the left says the country they include the vast tracts were nobody lives or wants to live. I live in an area the size of Wales but outside of Inverness it has a population smaller than the average town. These people want to live in one place and that is London. What is the population density in London? 5000 isn't a massive amount admittedly bt what message does that send to people back in Africa? Next year there may be 50,000 and a few years down the line we could be talking about millions.

So the solution is simple. Face down the luvvies who try to con you. Elect governments who put the interests of this country and its inhabitants first and throw the blighters out if they fail to deliver.

Still can't work out why if I was to pull a fence down or enter a private property area I would be fined for criminal damage or prosecuted for illegal entry; these people just get sent back to try again Crazy

Just came home after a long drive tonight & had radio 5 live on all night. You wouldn't believe the long list of cretins they have had on regarding Calais.

Guest after guest, with their posh accents telling us all how this country is a disgrace and should allow these poor souls into the country and look after them.

Too many people in the country already regardless of colour race or religeon. It's claustrophobic and the roads, health service, police and housing can't cope.
Someone said above about sending the immigrants back to their home country. The immigrants destroy all personal papers so there is no way of telling where they are from.
