They almost certainly won't mention how most of the big firms have made their staff sign new contracts for less pay...... or be sacked. And not to tell anyone about it (in the case of baldfred) or be sacked. thats a minimum wage job anyway , piece of p1ss |

What's a minimum wage job?
|
|
By:
It shouldn't be, but with 'managers' and cashiers are not required to know anything or to settle any bets etc, what with EPOS it is NOW a minimum wage job.
Proper (traditional) bookmaking is skilled and knowledge is required. |

tony needs to work on his swing too all over the place

I've never used EPOS, we were a proper bookies shop.

By:
Not sure what it would equate to now but 7 years ago one of the bookies cut it's maximum managers wage (outside London( from £27k per year to £22k.
Cashiers on the minimum wage. |

|

Betfair were the worst wage payers at one time but I think all the other multis have come down to their level now.
|
|
By:
when wages go to £9 in the next 4-5 year or so for over 25s you will be lucky to get an over 25 in a bookie

Punter I knew wrote a letter of complaint to Laddies years ago over a bet that they had declared void for some obscure reason.
He included a small mirror with it and sent it in one of those padded envelopes. The last line of the letter was : I've included a mirror so you can look in it and see what a c*nt looks like. I don't think they reversed their decision |

Was a more balanced program than I thought it would be. At least they showed somebody not being able to get full stake on and then having an account shut down.
Stu the addict should be excluded from all bookies in the area automatically if the bookies cared at all, but unfortunately from Stu he is their ideal customer. |

Surely it's the punters fault if they lose their cash on the machines? Nobody forcing them to play them. I visit the bookies a couple of times a week and never play them. Yeh let's not blame the drug barons for getting dealers to corrupt our young people. Yeh, let's not blame the media that makes drinking alcohol a glamorous lifestyle choice. Yeh, let's not blame the media, fashion mags etc. for pushing the idea that only skinny girls are beautiful and successful. It's all about making huge profits on the backs of those less fortunate than ourselves. I bet, but don't frequent bookies, but then I'm not your ' typical gambler ' and I'm not in danger of becoming a compulsive gambler. I drink, but don't go in pubs, I know what's good/bad for me so I don't drink to excess, so I'm not an alcoholic Unfortunately there's too many people who are unable to ' draw the line ' and so become, drug addicts, compulsive gamblers and alcoholics. These people need help and guidance, not ridicule or scorn. ' there but for the grace of God ' springs to mind. |

I thought it tried to be balanced from a non punting perspective. At least it wasn't the usual blurb that gambling is evil, contact Gambleaware.
A minority do have problems just as a minority make a long term profit. I think they tried to show that. What was interesting was the profitable guy being closed down after his win which is much more sinister from the industry. They are out to make money but surely the losses from the majority far outstrip any profits paid out to a winning few? Also Bookies make their money by offering unfair odds so you either have to be really really shrewd to make a profit taking those odds, really lucky or just a liar. In that winners case (who backed 80/1 shots when he could have got 200/1 on here without restrictions) I'm not sure what it is. I also thought it interesting that Betfair tried to cover their backs before the show: Betfair Helpdesk @BetfairHelpdesk 3h3 hours ago When betting it's vital to know your limits.
