Some people Still seething about the referendum
![]() |

Is bizarre when you think about, everyone votes for the SNP in Scotland and everyone gets the Conservative leader. They said after the referendum it'll be 10 years at least before another one, I'd give it 5 max.
|
|
By:
Well if the country is financially healthier at the end of the next Parliament than it is now I would say no chance of a referendum in five years.

If the Scottish Unionists like the union, then they should move to England or Belfast.
|
|

They already have.
If all Scots were allowed to vote in independence referendum the result would always be no ![]() |

Alias still seething that only 38% of the electorate voted Yes.
Now we've got a Tory government, no oil and a band of muffin SNP MPs. Independence? Only chance would be if England voted to get rid of us. |
|
By:
Cameron will give them full financial powers and then sit and watch them tell the Scots about the 7 billion they need to raise.

Nicola might need to sell her helicopter.

Geoestrategy: why some scots want to choose Brussels instead of Westminster? It would be amazing for french or german interests, but not for Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Denmark, Italy and many other european countries that need a strong UK.

By:
Moreover this independence is just to give more power (and money...) to SNP politicians, they just want power!

The Yes support are still living in their bubble detached from economic reality, believing that there is a money tree being denied to them, and they were robbed, and one last push and it will the promised land of milk and honey, contrary to the facts.
If Cameron decided to give Full Fiscal Autonomy and scrap Barnett, there will be a rude awakening, the SNP say they want it (but arguably don't, it's the posturing) and I believe quite a few Tories want it. A dose of reality would see the SNP's fox shot.. |

Under long term tory rule which it's set to be, independence is inevitable.
|
|
By:
SNP deserve credit for wanting to run their own country even though it will have negative impact on standards of living there in the short term.
Winning all those seats deserves a 2nd referendum. |
|
By:
why? we had one and no won by roughly 450k , and although they did well in the election, still only half of all scottish votes were 50% snp.
it won't happen. |
|
By:
Nicola likes attacking the nasty tories for anything bad but
claim the credit for anything good,so she wont go for another ref until the economic situation is much better.Meanwhile she has 56 M.P.'s on the gravy train. |

By:
Less people voted SNP than voted Yes in the referendum, and the anti-SNP voters were divided across 3 parties under a FPTP system that is ideal for the SNP to benefit when the opposition is divided,
and the SNP campaigngn was that it wasn't about independence it was about trying to leverage powers as part of a Labour coalition. Some people seem to be getting carried away with themselves... PS If I wrote "The Tories dserve credit for wanting austerity even though it will have negative impact on standards of living there in the short term." I'm sure SNP supporters would be on their high horse. Tories bad, SNP good... |
|
By:
Hi Just Cheating. You've had lots of time now to back up your claim, so where is your evidence of "Salmond's anti English rhetoric"?
Don't be shy, liar. Tories bad, SNP good... There now, even a lying fascist gets it right sometimes. |

By:

When they set up the Holyrood system, it was designed to avoid single party government. That worked out smashing, eh? ![]() ![]() ![]() WE WIN BOTH WAYS. Suck it up, liar. |

Why should anyone expect that Scotland will be granted another independence referendum within the next few generations? It was costly and hugely divisive, not an event the United Kingdom would want to revisit any time soon in my view. I'm no expert by a long chalk, but I'd imagine such a process can't be instigated merely on the whim of the Scottish parliament, or can it?
Another important factor to consider would be Scotland's place within the EU if independence was achieved. Alex Salmond and the SNP seem to think entry can be gained via article 48 as an existing member, but most constitutional analysts maintain that this would be far from certain and, moreover, an application through the customary article 49 would be likely to fail. |
|
By:
Why should anyone expect that Scotland will be granted another independence referendum within the next few generations? Do you refer to human generations, or mayfly generations? Who is going to deny a referendum if it is the obvious wish of the Scottish people, and why? Would they, the deniers, be scared of losing? What even makes you think that a referendum is the only way? As for the EU, let's wait and see first how THAT referendum works out. |
|
By:
I answered your questions in my post, Alias. Well, except the mayfly one which is beyond comment.

Whats the alternative to a referendum them?
